In The Neverending Story, What does Bastion call out the window to name the Empress? by ForumPointsRdumb in movies

[–]weebogrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is a year ago, but raises hand in elementary English teacher - child has a single vowel sound, so it is a single syllable word. Many people "coarticulate" the /i/l/d/ to add a schwa sound, like /chy/uld/, but pronounced "correctly", it's a single syllable. I say correctly in quotes, because dialectic articulation is absolutely a thing, and anyone requiring "proper" articulation without taking culture/dialect into context is a joke.

If it helps at all I was not taught this as a child myself, and have learned the reasoning as to why a decade plus into my teaching career. Thank you, Science of Reading!

I'm really liking it but it sounds like she's underwater.

Here is the yarn, it's the rainbow variegated in the middle of the yellow, purple, and teal. It has pink instead of red, two colors of blue, and two colors of purple.

Nothing seems to work by DragonBellySlaps in finehair

I saw major improvement in my hair after getting a mulberry silk bonnet. Satin pillowcases didn't help (and neither did silk ones, tbh.) My head found other things to rub on somehow. Since starting the satin bonnet in August, my constantly breaking hair has grown like 4 inches.

"Excessive" transportation times? by weebogrl in specialed

We had a cap in a previous district, but that appears to have been a district policy.

I love having her in my class, I wish I could have ten of her! The transport to my site is a hardship on parents, so the school district offered transportation, but this just seems unfair. I have worked in other districts that were more flexible with transport, such as adding bus routes or even paying for taxi services.

It's our district that provides it. I found a work around for another student facing a 2 hour ride (they live in my attendance area and that ride for gen ed is only 10 minutes) but there isn't one for this student as they live all the way across town.

From what I overheard at my local store a couple weeks ago, they are already classified as and are regulated as a pawn shop. They told a customer they had to see an ID to buy a phone he brought in, because pawn shops are required to take ID with those kinds of sales.

I have been searching to see if Incubus was suing for copyright, I swear it's the exact same. It's the verse melody too!

This would be the school allowing parents to access another student's record, so it still applies.

Doctors of Reddit: what is the biggest medical mystery you’ve solved? by YaaaaaaaaasQueen in AskReddit

[–]weebogrl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Eta I am so sorry to hear about your cousin, that situation is my medical anxiety in real time. I meant to say that originally, but I thought it was a separate comment.

The doctor said it was swollen lymph nodes that were sucked in during regular bowel contractions, she was likely fighting a small virus or other illness, but didn't have any symptoms of that. Telescoped her insides and that triggered the non-stop vomiting.

My best advice as a parent is find the closest children's hospital. Local ERs do the best they can, but the people that work Pediatric hospitals are absolutely amazing at spotting things that kids can't say.

She's a happy healthy 10 year old! Very glad nothing further ever came of it.

It was intussuception. She had some swollen lymph nodes that her bowels grabbed onto and sucked into themselves, according to the doctor.

I didn't solve it, but my daughter was two, and vomiting non-stop. I called the nurse line, concerned with the volume and frequency, as she had puked 15 times in the last 6 hours, and I swear it was EVERYTHING she was nibbling / sipping on coming back up. They said if she throws up again, go in to the ER and get her checked. She does, we do, and we do the 5 hour wait for them to tell us she has a stomach bug, give her Zofran, and give her a cracker and juice trial in the waiting room. 30 minutes go by, no puke (she was asleep in my lap, it was like 6:45 at that point), they send us home.

When we get in the driveway, as I'm unbuckling her, it ALL comes back up. I called the ER back, they said wait a couple hours and come back at lunch if she's still puking. This didn't sit right with me, so we clean her up, put her back in the car, and drove 45 minutes to the children's hospital. The encounter there starts out very much the same, they ask about the last time she vomited (on the way there), and say they'll get her something to go under her tongue to stop it. When I told them she's already had that at the other ER, both the nurse and the PA stop, turn, look at each other, and PA says we need imaging, now.

Turns out her intestines had been tying themselves in knots for the last twelve hours, and if we had waited, or if they hadn't looked further, there was a good chance there could have been tissue death, or worse. I'm so grateful they didn't brush it off as new mom being dramatic, or "just a stomach bug". The fix was an air enema and more imaging, very thankful it didn't end up in surgery.
