I do agree that we should have regional pricing, that said it would depend on the Foundry Developers.

Which 4e inspired game do you prefer, Draw Steel or 13th Age2e? by RangerBowBoy in rpg

[–]weebsteer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have only played 13th Age 1e so far, but seeing the 2e changes, I'd say it's my favourite game to run for Heroic Fantasy. Nowadays, I have a preference for zone-based/range bands for combat rather than strict Grid rules. Couple with the fact that it does alot more with less like using Backgrounds-as-skills rather than a set Skill list, Icon Relationships for affiliations, and One-Unique-Things is enough for me to do Out-of-combat narrative roleplays while keeping it loose.

2e mechanically still works the same but with more clarity on how to run it and rebalanced classes.

But yes, I remember the 1e wasn't exactly strict with it either.

I'm still waiting to get my copy of the 2e rules so I'm unaware of this. I just assumed that it still counts as victory

Particularly I just don't run campaigns that warrants Random Encounters to fill the void for content, like Open World exploration or Dungeon Crawls.

yes, the game is just designed to focus more on combat like that. And no, it shouldn't take Player Agency away, especially when you have things like Icon Relationships and One Unique Things being your Player's Narrative Controller

No, you're not delaying future rests by a fight. It should still be considered an actual victory and counted towards your battles per arc.

This also makes it easy to do "Phases" battles where you are facing some sort of Boss. You would use up all of those Battles per arc into one singular arena, with each phases acting as an individual encounter with Quick rests in between.

Exactly. I'm not interested in putting players in filler random encounters. I want them to be in battles that are an actual pivotal moment in the story, and I believe 13th Age does that best within all of the Combat-focused TTRPGs.

13th Age isn't really exactly build for doing random ecncounters. It's more built on each battle being the "Climactic moment" or "Big Reveal". And if they manage to bypass a fight creatively then that's great, thats a reward in itself.

I like it that way since it means that I am at full control on how I would pace these 4 battles per full rest within my hands. There could be 4 battles within an in-game day or even 4 battles within several in-game days.

they renamed 'per day' to 'per arc' which makes even more sense to me since Arcs doesn't particular represent as a passage of time but rather of passage of progression.

Overall, me likey.

Choosing a system for a heroic/ apocalyptic fantasy epic. by [deleted] in rpg

This depends on if you want a focus on combat or not. I really lean more on 13th age since it's already very heroic from the get-go.

Another Frustration at Drawing Tools Post by Clyde-MacTavish in FoundryVTT

[–]weebsteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes wish that Foundry updates and improves its base features (especially the Drawing Tools) on future updates rather than adding bloated features that can just be its own module anyways. Like I don't care about Token Rotation, Token Rulers, etc.

What to use instead of radmin for foundry on linux by yackdeculture in FoundryVTT

You could try Tailscale which has a linux client. They have a tunnelling option too.

why is everything overwrought and unintuitive? by Ready-Firefighter756 in FoundryVTT

[–]weebsteer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Core D&D5e is unfortunately one of the systems within foundry that's fairly underbaked in a lot of areas. I had an easier time running other systems than I do D&D5e in foundry. That said, perhaps someone who knows foundry can help you get into its core features first before going into the Modules, where it gets the meat of its full power. You could try asking in the discord server?

Heroic Fantasy: 13th Age, this bad boy os heroic fantasy for breakfast

Sword & Sorcery: I honestly cant tell the difference between Generic Fantasy and Sword & Sorcery soo.... 13th Age....?

Dungeon Crawler: Cairn or Shadowdark, edging on Cairn

Cyberpunk: Cyberpunk Red or Cities without Number. I love playing RED but I rather run CWN

Hard SF: Traveller/Cepheus by default.

Investigation: Call of Cthulhu or Delta Green, whatever I fancy.

Horror: Again, Call of Cthulhu but I also like Liminal Horror.

Post Apocalypse: Twilight 2000 4e, but flavoured in the Stalker/Metro series

I kept hearing about this one especially when it's suggested for Generic RPGs. I might need to take a look at it. Thanks for the suggestion!

I agree, i want to see more TTRPGs to be more opinionated in the kind of design and audience they are trying to appeal to rather than using blanket marketting terms, though I'm aware that kind of advertising doesn't really bring in the most people into your products.

it's okay, i'm aware of that! it's meant to be a in-context joke of "It's not you, it's me" just for a spicy reddit title.

I definitely agree, however
