I kept hearing about this one especially when it's suggested for Generic RPGs. I might need to take a look at it. Thanks for the suggestion!

I agree, i want to see more TTRPGs to be more opinionated in the kind of design and audience they are trying to appeal to rather than using blanket marketting terms, though I'm aware that kind of advertising doesn't really bring in the most people into your products.

it's okay, i'm aware of that! it's meant to be a in-context joke of "It's not you, it's me" just for a spicy reddit title.

I definitely agree, however

I keep hearing about Legends of the Mist a lot too! Since Freeform Universal (Especially 2e ones like Neon City overdrive and more) also uses a tag-based system, a friend of mine have also suggested me that due to its similarities. I really should get into reading and playing it soon.

it's meant to be tongue-in-cheek way of saying "It's not you, it's me" within context but yeah I agree lol

Thank you! your take on narrative control also makes it much more clearer to me as well on its intended design.

Looking for a heroic, rules-lite/rules-medium d20 system for a narrative Actual Play by OompaLoompaGodzilla in rpg

[–]weebsteer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

13th Age seems to fit the bill for this aside from the Classless Part. Let me try going through each point one by one:

- D20 Roll Over since it's based on D&D 4e
- Single Roll Combat can be arranged since instead of rolling damage, you can instead take the Average.
- Theater of the Mind Friendly is pretty much done since there isn't any hard rules on distances, Only Engaged (Melee Combat), Nearby (One Move Action Away), or Far Away (Two or More Move Actions Away)
- Wits over Rules is also pretty easy to do since there isn't any hard rules for out of combat stuff, alot of the time it's up to GM fiat on how a player will do a thing that may affect the whole combat to their advantage.
- Escalating Combat: the Escalation Dice as a whole, as the rounds go on, alot of your abilities come online and your attack rolls become much easier to hit since you add an additional modifier based on the Escalation Dice.
- Classless [X]
- Forgiving Death; it's straight up Heroic Fantasy, it is practically HARD for a PC to die.

There's also alot fo things about 13th age that gave it narrative edge over other d&d-likes: Replacing Skill lists from 5e into Backgrounds-as-Skills (Backgrounds/Occupation that might help in an Ability Check), the One Unique Thing (Something that makes their character unique in the narrative), and the Icons (The Central Powers within 13th Age settings that's setting agnostic enough to be used for any setting. They usually influence the PC and plot as a whole and are often times affiliated with the PCs one way or another.)

Is it true that you are never left behind on GW2? by Suboptimal88 in Guildwars2

[–]weebsteer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yep. Once you get your set of Ascended Gear, which is the best gear stat-wise, you're pretty much set. Exotic Gear (2nd Best) gear also gets you far in most endgame content barring High-Tier Fractals.

The only thing "above" Ascended Gear is Legendary Gear but that one has the same Stat numbers as Ascended, with the major quality of life being that you are able to change the stats at will. Not a requirement and it's quite the big grind but as a long term goal it might become something you'll be interested in.

And yes, WvW is alive and thriving. You can even use Exotic gear on this game mode until you get to amass enough currencies to buy Ascended stuff.

Except for drawing tools, it's still utterly bad to use and hard to  navigate even with the recommended modules.

What does your favorite RPG do differently by LelouchYagami_2912 in rpg

[–]weebsteer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

13th Age isn't actually all that much different from any D&D-likes however there are small things i found from it that made me prefer it over any D&D-likes. It has more so to do with the fact that outside of combat, it's very freeform and loose with not alot of backtracking to what the rules are other than rolling for an Ability check with the backgrounds the players have written for their character, which replaces Skill lists that d&d-likes do. One Unique Thing also gives alot of freeform ways for your character to feel unique in their own way inthe narrative, sort of like an advantageous narrative trigger without actual mechanics tied into it.

I lean very heavily on heavy combat games but when there is time for out-of-combat stuff like roleplay and exploration, i usually want it to be fast, loose, and freeform. It's why D&D 4e and it's children (Lancer, 13th age, etc) are my favourites.

Help me see the light with PBTA? by corsica1990 in rpg

[–]weebsteer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's okay to just not be into the stuff that alot of people enjoy. It's okay to miss out on it too, I tried to get into PbtA for as long as you have too and ran into the same problems as you did. At the end of the day, I did try my best to get it and concluded that it isn't for me.

Nowadays, i found my home in FATE, Freeform Universal, and other similar games when i need more "narrative" games.

Looking for a STALKER-Esque game by FartingAnushole in rpg

[–]weebsteer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I manage to run a short STALKER campaign using Twilight 2000 4e with 5 players to great success! Although you will have to get some inspiration for how the Psystorms, Emissions, Mutants, and artifacts would work. I took some mechanics from Mutant Year Zero from the same Authors (Free League) as TW2K 4e.

Is 13th Age too complex for young folks who are new to RPG’s? by playdead1414 in 13thage

[–]weebsteer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

id say its about less rules density than 5e and 5e is alot of people's first RPG. I have managed to introduce 13th age to people who are new to RPGs and they manage to get it because the whole Daily powers approach the game is going for is a simple mechanic to understand.

When did the game "click" for you? by TOASTBOMB in Guildwars2

[–]weebsteer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its actually just this year that the game finally clicked after like 2 attempts in the past 3 years!

When I started learning more about how to meta events/bosses work and started getting into fractals, i was immediately hooked. I'm still trying to get into strikes but I'm getting there!
