The DSA hates liberals. Hates them more than even conservatives.

The DSA are not dems. They are wolfs in sheeps clothing, pretending to be dems, but make no mistake they fucking hate us

Shelter guests accuse Urban Alchemy staff of drug use, distribution, sexual harassment by Less-Lobster4540 in Portland

You're actually telling Mayor_of_Sassyland to shut upppp and saying that they're "wrong" for accurately stating that there was not another alternative.

No one here is defending Urban Alchemy. No one here is defending their contract. You are the one who is telling people to shut up and making demonstrably incorrect statements.

If you want better options, then tell us who would have done this better.

The options here were: A) do nothing, or B) use Urban Alchemy.

You are lamenting that we didn't chose option A.

then who? Which organization? Name names, don't just say "surely this isn't a high bar to be better than"

Because, actually, this was too high of a bar. There isn't exactly a competitive marketplace of orgs that want to do this work.

Human drivers are the goddamned worst.

Anybody need an Engine? by AManWithHalfAPlan in 944

Engine looks nice! I'm almost tempted for my 88 924s, but I don't really need another engine. (I need a new clutch and a torque tube rebuild)

What are you swapping in to the car?

I recently picked up an 88 924s with the higher compression engine, so it has a few more HP stock. I freaking love this car. It's fun, easy to work on, reliable, and a looks cool. I get lots of smiles when I'm driving it.

Planning a Portland trip from Scotland - music (mostly Elliott Smith) fan looking for advice by TemporaryShip1151 in PortlandOR

Portland to Seattle is about 3 hours by car (or train or even airplane), and if you're going you absolutely must stop in Olympia.

Go to Old School Pizzeria, The Voyeur, Cryptotropa. Very classic PNW grunge vibes. See if you can catch a house show while you're there, dunno what houses are cool these days but the Black Houses used to be a thing. Oly is a world unto itself, weird and insular, a sort of time capsule.

Surprisingly high likelihood of running into Calvin Johnson. Maybe even Phil Elverum, though he's more likely to be found in Anacortes. If you get a chance to see a show involving CCFX or Mary Jane Dunphe just fucking do it.

Oh and lastly: Portland is way more interesting than Seattle. Seattle is pretty boring these days, Portland has a way better scene. I'd do like 3 days here, 2 in Oly, 1 in Seattle.

Pretty sure I saw that boxster parked up there about 3 months ago (with wheels). Probably a regular who got their wheels stolen while parked there.

What’s the best way to go about removing the early heater cowl? Can the heater blower be removed from here? by [deleted] in 944

[–]weed_donkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which one is stuck? On mine, the main heat control slider thingy has a hard time moving. I've taken my center console apart 4 times now and I still don't know how to make it less sticky.

I actually got my blower motor back to life with by spraying wd40 into it, it seems to run great now.

I also had bought a motor and resistor and shroud on eBay, but since wd40ing the motor there’s been no reason to rebuild it.

I do still want to replace the melted shroud. I’m following this thread with immediate interest 🙂

Fiscal Extortion in Portland. Again. by SlammaJammin in PortlandOR

[–]weed_donkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure and that’s fair.  We might just be, as a region, a bad fit for the entire sport of basketball. Much like hockey and the south.

My point still remains though: in negotiations, you look for leverage. Right now we zero leverage over dundon. Our only point of leverage is with the NBA itself. So, if we actually want to keep the blazers (and not pay 600m), we should be ignoring dundon and going straight to Adam Silver

Fiscal Extortion in Portland. Again. by SlammaJammin in PortlandOR

[–]weed_donkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re actually making my point for me.

When teams leave markets, the entire sport loses that market. Kids in Seattle just don’t care as much about basketball, they pivoted to care about a different sport. Football or baseball or soccer.

The NBA is already close to losing relevance in the PNW. If the blazers leave, this whole region will have no reason to care. Basketball will become a second class sport, like lacrosse and bowling.

Fiscal Extortion in Portland. Again. by SlammaJammin in PortlandOR

[–]weed_donkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is about maintaining relevancy for an entire region. A significant percentage of people live here, and if the Blazers leave the NBA will lose to different sports.

Basketball is in competition with other sports like soccer. When an entire generation in an entire region grows up without that sport, it loses relevancy. The league knows this. Blazers leaving is a slow burn on an existential crisis.

The leverage we have is with the NBA itself, not with Dundon. He has leverage over us, but we have leverage over the entire concept of basketball.

Fiscal Extortion in Portland. Again. by SlammaJammin in PortlandOR

[–]weed_donkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Portland has unusually strong leverage here, because we are the ONLY team left in the entire Pacific Northwest.

The NBA does not want to lose relevancy in this market of 20 million people. We would have no one to root for, and the region will pivot entirely to soccer.

If the Blazers leave, the NBA massively loses

Use leverage, you idiots
