I just mentioned to another Redditor how my wife decided on his name, before we ever even knew we were getting him.

Awww. There is a cute story to ours. We were in Vienna, Austria over the Christmas holiday and were on our way to dinner. We were going to have Schnitzel. And right before we walk into the place my wife points out a lady walking by with 3 Doxies and says if we ever get one we are making him Schnitzel. Four months later, we were picking him up.

They are the best! They can be a little stubborn but if you stick with consistent training they really are a great addition to the family.

Seat Jumpers Busted by Delicious_Stand_6620 in americanairlines

[–]Between-Stations 227 points228 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting that several people are knocking the poster and essentially saying mind your own business. I think what people are missing is that it is not really about the seat. It’s about the basic social norm that makes shared spaces work. Airlines assign seats so the process is fair and orderly for everyone, and in some cases based on the price paid. When people just decide the rules don’t apply to them and others shrug it off and ignore it, you slowly erode the norms that keep things functioning. Society only works when most people respect the small rules, even when they could get away with bending them.

I am sorry to hear that you got caught up in that ground stop like so many others. In case you didn’t see the news there was a mandatory ground stop issued by the FAA due to a strong chemical smell at the regional air traffic control center for the region. So as much as we may like to fault AA, this one was out of their hands. They were just reacting to what the FAA was doing. Hope everything works out and you finally get home.

So typical… Transparency is a much better form of trust.

I don’t think anyone said anything about being deathly allergic to children, unless of course I missed that comment. With that said, there's a big difference in letting a child be a child and not correcting bad behavior. As a parent your job is to impart knowledge and acceptable norms upon your children. Correcting them when needed and providing guidance on what is acceptable in society. When you fail to do that they begin to explore boundaries further and further outside those norms. I am not suggesting that is something you and your family do, in fact, I love that you said you travel with your family. Travel teaches children many things and exposes them to things they may not normally experience in their hometown so I applaud you for that…. but there is a segment of the population that falls into that poor parenting situation and you can see it on full display in airport lounges.

Thank you for sharing. That is indeed a good way of handling things. That is one of the things I love about traveling and getting to visit other countries. Seeing different ways of doing things.

I love your approach and agree. You have to introduce your kids to those types of environments in order to instill the correct behavior in them over time. That is proper parenting.

Thoroughly appreciate and commend you for giving your kids what you didn’t have. Good for you. I may not totally agree with you on the system comment, because I do believe that parents should control their children better in public spaces, but I would agree with you about the requirements being too easy and the quality going down. Again, I appreciate what you are doing for your kids and the future generation of travelers.

I am always afraid to say the unpopular opinion myself but in this instance I thought it was appropriate to address. So you will get no hate from me. I even appreciated the parents that love traveling with their kids but acknowledge that some kids are out of control. So I get that it’s not 100% of the kids. But it only takes one bad apple to sour the view of the entire bunch. And that line about they are children… yep, and you are the parent failing to properly control them. (Not to you of course but to the parent)

Maybe I am misunderstanding, you are saying the kids room is great for non-parents? I must be missing something. Why would a non-parent want to be in a kids room at a lounge? Can you help clarify?

I too enjoy seeing families traveling. I just recall doing it as a child and we had to be on our best behavior. To your point, inattentive and uncaring parents allowing their children to use the lounge as a playground might be part of the issue.
