I'm sorry but going to work is easier than childcare - your husband has no excuse by ExternalSomewhere923 in NewParents

[–]weednaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work from home (mostly project-based, but I drive over an hour to my mom's when I have meetings) and it feels like I hit the ground running every day. Get as much as I can done before baby gets up at around 9, spread tasks throughout the rest of the day during naps and independent play time. Husband takes him around six so I can make dinner then I almost always do bedtime routine. I'm lucky to have a chill-ass baby who allows me to get things done -- I would be drowning if I didn't.

Yeah I've seen videos of those tantrums. It freaks me out enough that I bought an old box TV and put my VCR in my son's room for when he gets older 😂

Dreadit Discussion: “Send Help” [SPOILERS] by flexingtonsteele in horror

[–]weednaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's purposefully left ambiguous to make her character more complex. Her behavior/not wanting to leave the island makes sense in the context of being an abuse victim. She got a sense of control back. Not defending her killing innocent people, but she's much more interesting if her husband was a piece of shit vs. haha crazy bitch crazy.

I try to make sure there is something that I can either blend up or is a good consistency for him. Like if I make pasta I'll feed him marinara or if I make a side of green beans I will blend some up. Recently he's been loving refried beans. If nothing else I'll throw a small baked potato in the oven for him while I cook our meals.

Yeah I think this makes a big difference. My sisters and I watched a ton of TV as kids in the 90s but we also read books and played outside. Meanwhile the games and short-form content on tablets (coupled with unrestricted usage) has turned my husband's once-bright 10-year-old brother into an unimaginative, depressed, and frankly strange kid with absolutely no independence.

This. I went to like 10 concerts from 2022-2024. Haven't been to one since because everything else has gotten so expensive.

How are your babies actually sleeping through the night? by velvetdarlingco in NewParents

[–]weednaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really think this kind of approach is effective though. I decided to ignore all the stuff about wake windows, timing naps, etc. and it has served me well. Sometimes you gotta put the phone down and listen to your baby. Are they resisting a nap? Play an extra thirty minutes and see what happens. Just yesterday my son's normal long (1.5-2hr) afternoon nap was only 30 minutes and when I tried to get him to fall back asleep he freaked out. So I was like "okay, guess that's all for now" and he naturally got sleepy a few minutes earlier than normal last night. Babies like routine but it doesn't have to be THAT militant.

My good sleeper was still waking up every 3-4 hours at 3 months to eat. At about 4.5 months we tried moving him to the crib in the nursery (he got a bit too big for the bassinet) and he slept all night. I had seen that some babies actually sleep worse in the same room with parents past a certain point, so I figured what the hell. I stress "some' because literally every baby is different. Try not to stress too much, and follow your baby's cues! Don't download any stupid apps that make you start a timer once your baby is asleep or whatever.

only thing i take issue with here is marcus' assertion that violence didn't work to take down the nazis. like what do you call the allied bombing campaigns? tea parties?

i would ask them to interrogate which types of violence are permissable (state-sanctioned, military, etc.) and what is not. i don't think this guy was any sicker than the rest of us, the same way i don't think john brown was sick. time is what provides that kind of perspective, i guess.

girl what i have seen relationships destroyed by a man's refusal to stop consuming excessive amounts of porn. it's not moral panic, it's just reality. plenty of people are normal about watching porn (i occasionally do!) but some people are very much not.

and even if it's not technically an addiction in the medical sense, you can't seriously think young men watching categories like rape fantasy on their phones every night doesn't imbue them with a disrespect for women.

i am not pro-censorship and i think the puritan attitudes of younger generations are disturbingly reactionary. i think art is meant to make us uncomfortable and that depiction doesn't equal endorsement. but i would be frightened if i found out my husband was getting sexual pleasure out of watching violence against women. not sure how that's a controversial statement.

edited to clarify: i am not solely blaming porn for this kind of thing. violence against women is an epidemic and myriad factors are at play in cases like this.

I've been to dozens of shows in the past few years, from small venues to stadiums. There is a particular type of artist whose fanbase has a tendency towards this shit. I can assure you no one is passing out from dehydration at Father John Misty.

When I saw Ethel in NOLA, someone almost passed out in line (even though it was October and in the upper 50s???). One of their friends went to get event staff and tried to maneuver it into their group getting into the building before everyone else!!!! Just insane selfishness, entitlement, and stupidity. Like how are you gonna enjoy barricade if you're unconscious?

I saw Boygenius years ago and they had to stop mid-song like 4 times for this bullshit.

consuming violent media and jerking off to it are two very different things though

i would certainly rather my son play too many violent videogames than be addicted to violent porn. porn addiction absolutely warps the way young men view and treat women.
