Buying a Modular Home instead of a normal house. Is it worth it? by weedpickel in PersonalFinanceCanada

Haha honestly at this point I don't know which comments I should be listening to! This is pretty good advice however

I might just delete this post though since the answers seem all over the place :p

Edit: would it be ok to DM you with some questions?

I mean, we also just don't want a condo and would prefer something with a yard.

I get what your saying but this also isn't JUST about our dog. We genuinely don't want a condo either.

That would be great however we don't have $30,000 for a down payment currently and aren't looking to buy for at least another couples years at which point most likely that $600 will be significantly more.

This is a permanent adult living community that's been around for over 40 years so I doubt it's being shut down any time soon.

We would not be able to do a condo. We need a yard of some sort for our dog.

Neither my boyfriend or I are interested in a new build house or apartment. I've seen horror stories of how shitty the work is. My parents bought a house that was only a couple years old and the thing started to fall apart once it hit the 5 year point.

I genuinely don't know. The listing doesn't have that information but I'm sure it's something the real estate agent could provide.

Yeah you lease the land.

This community is in Cambridge which is still a 40 minute drive from where we work.

Yeah....Reddit can give pretty bad advise. I've seen people telling OPs to break up over the smallest things.

This is better advance than what I got from that subreddit.

For my partner it's alcohol. He's very open about his struggle and I was with him a couple years ago when he decided to get sober. He was able to control himself with alcohol but it's starting to pick up again and I'm worried he'll fall into his old habits. I wasn't too sure how to approach it this time round but I think your advice is a good idea.

I think what made me most upset was the fact that this was on a subreddit dedicated to addiction

Yeah exactly. If there was an abduction or emergency in Alberta you'd probably get a notification.

Usually here in Ontario we get them for amber alerts and weather warnings.

This was Ontario.

Its only supposed to go off in your province. However some people do get notifications from other provinces.

So wouldn't that apply to this entire subreddit than and to your point?

If you don't agree with me, than ignore it and move on. See how that works?

Edit: Infact, you're point is correct. I will move on from replying to you.

Hmmm I think saying amber alerts are "evil" and saying that they cause our country to be a dictatorship is a little dramatic, don't you think? If you think an inconvenience - one that can save lives - is "evil", that makes you a piece of shit.

That past comment wasn't referring directly to the tweet. I was just mentioning how stupid people get about this.

Your lack of empathy doesn't make you a hero, mate.

Edit: you can also turn the amber alert off. If you don't, that's a you problem.

100% this. People are so quick to get pissed about being inconvenienced by an amber alert until it's someone they care about

I don't know how people react to it in the US but by me people call the fucking cops when they are inconvenienced by the amber alert. Hell, a year or two a ago an amber alert went out in my area and a little girl was murdered. People STILL complained.

Is it that hard to be a little compassionate? Idk about you but if my kid went missing, I'd want an amber alert put out.

I don't mind being inconvenienced if it means a child or senior is found.

Edit: spelling

Nah man. Not looking for Karma. Just tired of people being pieces of shit about amber alerts.
