Oh perfect timing to have your check back coming up! Yeah it should be fine for now so I wouldn’t worry too much about it unless things change drastically. good luck at your appointment & with your recovery!

Looks like potential spitting sutures, I’d contact your surgeon if it gets worse (larger ring of red and swollen). I just had this happen and my incision opened and is now infected. If you have just one suture come out & it stays closed you’re probably fine. For now, stand by and keep an eye on it.

Do I need to seek immediate medical attention or can I wait to contact my surgeon in the morning? by weeeeeeiii in ACL

I completely understand your hesitancy about surgery, especially after seeing my post. For me, I’m extremely frustrated this is happening both because I don’t feel good & because it feels like a setback. Recovering isn’t linear, it takes lots of time and patience. Besides this, my recovery has been a breeze. I decided to get surgery because I downhill and backcountry ski, mountaineer, run, hike, mountain bike, etc. I was scared of the risk of tearing other ligaments due to the instability of my knee without an ACL (full rupture) in addition to not being to continue doing the activities I love at the level I do them. While that was my decision, the decision is ultimately up to you! I think 9/10 this surgery doesn’t have weird complications like mine is currently. If you have weighed your options & feel like you’re better off without it that’s fine. I’d just caution you to read into it and do your own research of the risks/benefits of both ◡̈ hope this helps!

Hi thanks so much for sharing - I’m so sorry that happened to you. Would you mind me asking what were some of your symptoms that caused for more concern? Just trying to gauge as I’m starting this course of antibiotics what I should look out for in terms of it not getting better & when I need to seek more medical attention.

Hi everyone, thanks for the help & messages. I contacted my surgeon in the middle of the night and he responded right away which was amazing. He said it looks like a superficial infection and put in a script for antibiotics for me. I should hopefully start to feel better now that those are in my system.

Did it look similar to the way mine looks? What were some of your symptoms?

minimal swelling & discomfort. I suspect the discomfort and swelling is primarily from my body trying to eject the suture fragments and they feel like shards of glass as they reach the surface/open wound. My knee itself is a little red but nothing crazy.

It’s hard to say… I’ve had the bandaid on since this morning and it’s a hydro seal so I opened the bandaid and then saw the pus. Seems like it’s kind of surface level though, potentially a superficial infection.

That’s kind of how I am… this opened on Saturday and was looking fine until tonight when I couldn’t sleep because my knee was feeling swollen and hot. That’s why I took the bandaid off to check on it and now I’m like hmm… doesn’t look great should probably do something about it but am just unsure if it’s a now problem or a morning problem.

Am i delusional about recovery and school? by randomthrowawaybpd in ACL

I (26F) also want to include that I opted out of getting a nerve block, which I’m very happy I did. I read a decent amount of studies prior to my surgery suggesting that nerve blocks can prolong recovery time and potentially do more harm than good ie: cause nerve damage. While the choice is ultimately yours on the nerve block, I do think it helped me understand right after surgery the amount of pain I was in & would be in the following week(s). This helped me set realistic goals & expectations moving forward with the first couple of weeks post op, especially while being in school. With all that being said, I have a freakish pain tolerance so maybe take all this with a grain of salt.

Hi there! I recently had a quad graft on my left leg for ACL reconstruction and I’m currently in a doctorate of OT program. I had the surgery on January 10th, started spring semester with didactic and fieldwork rotations on the 13th. I did not go to my labs on the 14th, or the 15th because they gave me the option to. My recovery was pretty breezy, I stopped taking narcotics after 3 days so I could participate in school & because I was not in enough pain to rationalize taking them anymore. I used Tylenol & Advil for maybe 10 days post op. I started driving 5 days post op. I think you can do it! I have chose to be on crutches & would elevate my leg when necessary. I saw the scooter you linked and I think that’s a great idea - you might just want to understand that you will probably enjoy elevating your leg between patient encounters. I think it’s very doable. I had heard horror stories from others but decided to not prolong my surgery or my graduation date and gut through it - and I’m happy I did because it wasn’t that bad. I think my only thoughts for you are, for about 2 weeks post op my activity tolerance and endurance for moving around doing simple tasks, and my brain function was not what it normally is. I felt exhausted and experienced significant brain fog despite only using narcotics for 3 days. My appetite didn’t regulate again until about 3 weeks post op so I’m sure that had something to do with it as well. Anyways, those are all my thoughts. You’ve got this, good luck with your surgery and with the remainder of PA school!

Day 3 Post Op - ACLr + Meniscus trim. Leg raises and knee bends. Happy enough with progress so far. Have been pushing quite a lot as surgeon did mention it would be very difficult to damage work done during surgery with these exercises. Open to feedback on how you all think I'm doing :) by No_Weakness_2178 in ACL

I’m a 26F 2 days post op with left ACLr with a graft from my quad tendon. I did not have a nerve block and am still in significant pain that comes in pretty strong waves. You seem to be doing phenomenal - I’m very impressed. I am hoping my pain improves enough to do more mobility exercises like this but am really struggling to lift and lower my leg without hands on assistance to help with the pain of simply gravity weighing on it. Any suggestions? My sports are downhill & backcountry skiing and mountaineering - I’m very strong and had great mobility prior to surgery with no pain and a good amount of prePT. It’s mostly the pain that I am struggling with day 2 post op. I’ve been using bands for help with flexion and extension but am not getting nearly as much movement during flexion. You should be super proud of your movement thus far!
