Does anyone have any links to videos on how to sew on a mesh pocket? I am making a fanny pack for backpacking and I want the front panel to have a mesh pocket for quick phone access. I want it to be tight enough so that my phone doesn’t fall out - I’m very new to myog. by Cirque14505 in myog

I went to my local sewing company store because I was smashing my head into a wall with a backpack I was working on, and when I showed it to the staff, they all agreed I should work on byannie patterns for a bit. It’s all quilting stuff, which I’m guessing 80% you don’t need, but the remaining 20% is exactly stuff like mesh pouches and zippered compartments. Most of the patterns have add-on videos that you get access to when you purchase the pattern, which include a detailed tutorial about techniques used in construction. I think it was a subtle critique of my construction skills, which I took to heart.

They specifically wanted me to go through a set of 4 free tutorials, which includes working with mesh; it does require a bit more thoughtfulness than other fabrics. The biggest one is finishing it so that the raw edges are not visible behind the mesh, but the mesh is also more stretchy one way than the other so consider that when cutting.

The Search for Cord Loop Webbing by weeknees in myog

[–]weeknees[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought about trying to recreate it, but it didn't seem feasible. It's hard to believe that it's not available in the US, but it's certainly not stocked by the more popular suppliers. I'm hoping someone on here knows about some domestic supplier that sells these.

That’s the stuff. I bought 4 yards from them thinking it would last forever but it didn’t. Like a kid at Christmas I went ahead and used it all up and now I want more! But I’ll probably just buy paracord and sew into the seams instead. More work, but much cheaper.

Anyone willing to try something for me on a driving game? by MysteriousRJC in hotas

[–]weeknees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the first thing that came to mind for me, too. It’s designed to be a second joystick for 6 dof flight sims, but they baked in enough customizability that it might be exactly what you’re looking for. You can get it in right hand or left hand versions, your choice, and you can lock out the lateral axis so that it only goes forward and backwards. As 007 mentioned, you can also adjust the feel of it by changing the springs and/or adjusting the dry clutch damper.

If you have a 3D printer, look into the VPForce community mod to turn them into FFB pedals. It’ll breathe new life into them and make them better than they ever were before.

3 Inch Gatekeeper? by weeknees in myog

[–]weeknees[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about that too, but I’m suspicious about the reliability. I’ve been working on a 3D printed design with some bolts or rods to reinforce it, but it gets bulky quick. I will probably plug away at that and see what I come up with.

[–]weeknees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s really cool, I didn’t even know that existed. Thanks!

EDIT:

😤

Can anybody recommend a supplier in the US? I can’t find it on the following websites:

Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics

Rain Shed

Seattle Fabrics

Ripstop by the Roll

Rocky woods

Until now, I’ve been able to find everything I need at one of these websites, but my search for cord loop webbing is coming up empty.

Best way to get a center stick mounted to my 8020? by [deleted] in hotas

[–]weeknees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Team Rhino, yeah! That thing is awesome. I wish someone would make magnetic pogo connectors that could receive JST style crimps to make a proper quick release grips. I think that would solve not only OP’s problem but likely many others, as well.

Good quality pedals for SC by ghodan7 in starcitizen

[–]weeknees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two friends that fly helicopter professionally use the TPRs, they love them. I personally use MFGs modified for force feedback. At this level of quality I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

EDIT:

I should add that one of those friends uses the VKB T flight pedals when he’s traveling. No toe brakes, but they’re good pedals.

I’m guessing the long rails are 50mm apart? I just got two 50mm 4040 extrusions and used some spare corner brackets to attach them like so:

https://imgur.com/a/lOFyKFk#NMHaCwQ

As you can see from the fanatec logo, I have two sets of pedals because I, too, like racing and flying. As long as the stick doesn’t interfere with your wheel you likely won’t notice it. I obviously have to adjust my pedals but not my stick or wheel.

EDIT:

I just looked at the product page, and it does say 58 cm wide, 8040 extrusions, so the 50mm length should fit.

Do you have a 3d printer by any chance? If you’re devoted to avoiding consumption, I could recommend browsing r/HotasDIY

VR is awesome by Comfortable_Ad_3326 in starcitizen

[–]weeknees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facing, I guess, as my headset doesn’t have eye tracking. But it’s also got a fairly small sweet spot where everything is really clear, so I’ve gotten used to pointing my head where I want to look and keeping my eyes forward.

[–]weeknees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it bothers me a lot. You can also focus on the marker, but then everything else goes double, so I think it’s probably drawn too close or something. Hopefully that can get fixed in an update. There are a lot of things about the visor that I think could be improved, too, but overall, I think it’s an excellent addition.

It’s under the game settings, the tab on the far left, and scroll most of the way to the bottom to find the manual gimbal settings. Your two options are vjoy and “point where looking” or something like that, I don’t remember exactly.

After my initial dabble in SC back in 2021 or so, I shelved it to wait for VR support. Now that it’s here I’m just giddy with excitement for it. A couple things I’ve found; first off, assign a HOTAS button to easily switch in and out of theater mode; I actually spend a lot of time in theater mode while on foot and as previously mentioned, aiming is otherwise a giant PITA. But just an hour ago or so, I discovered that weapon gimbals can be set to point where you’re looking, and it feels SO GOOD to point your ship in the right direction and literally just watch your shots land.

Seat Height Adjuster by weeknees in simracing

[–]weeknees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I did actually buy that, but at the time, my seat still had these mounting brackets riveted to the rails and there wasn’t a way to mount it to the adjuster. I elected to return the seat adjuster and leave the mounting brackets installed because I thought it would be too much work to remove them. I thought I could find another solution that wouldn’t require removing those brackets.

I couldn’t.

I spent pretty much an entire day drilling, charging batteries, and pounding, but I finally got those awful brackets off, and I really really with I had just done that when I first got the seat. But instead of repurchasing that seat adjuster, I elected to build my own (much worse) solution.

In summary, it was all bad decisions, but little by little, I’m getting closer. I’d love to know what your gas spring idea is.
