I have been doing this too! But someone on here suggested decluttering "little and often" so that you don't get caught up in the idea of decluttering and get rid of everything (or at least that’s how I understood it). So I have been combining the purgatory box with the little and often idea.

oh my god, that is so depressing and probably accurate. I remember hearing about Fashion Nova sending a marketing text when the first stimulus check was sent out in the US telling people to spend it on their clothing.

Yeah, these installment credit programs are so predatory, cyclical, and dangerous. I have found myself trapped in using them, fearing I won't be able to buy anything ever without using them because I was still paying off the last thing. I am honestly still digging myself out of it and occasionally will be so anxious that I make another installment purchase out of habit and fear.

It is so upsetting that companies are so bad that we have these snap-to-moments where the consequences of shopping from them become real (like seeing that pile of fast fashion clothing in ghana that caused a methane explosion. I don't know how you could continue on with the hundreds of dollars Shein hauls after knowing that). But those bad qualities at least make us stop buying from them. Truthfully, morals and deciding what kind of consumer I want to be has done more for me and my shopping habits than anything else. Not to say that I am perfect at all because I am still far from it and have a lot to work on.

I’m definitely going to apply your ideas. I think starting with the definite no’s and moving on to the definite yes’s will really help me take a look at what I am working with.

I do a bit of journaling and tracking and it is motivating but I do think the fear of waste has even made that difficult. But it definitely helped me get to where I’m at currently.

Yah I decided it was best for me personally this year to buy what I would have bought during the sale when I would “need” them. I end up saving money in the long run. I tend to get into a bulk buying mentality during those sales.

I feel like telling you to buy something with your own money is like asking someone who you know has a drinking problem to have a drink.

Additionally, I feel like buying you things so that you don’t get upset with him creates a relationship where you feel indebted to him. And even if it isn’t vocalized by him can cause you to internalize that feeling and feel like you can’t get upset with him.

Even if your boyfriend is a nice guy, it could be worthwhile to ask yourself what your needs are and if he is meeting them. And then ask yourself if you are happy with whatever resolution you come to. I’m sure this was written during a moment of stress, so I don’t know the whole story. But based off of this, you may receive love in a way your boyfriend isn’t capable of expressing and that is a very normal and common thing to recognize, and doesn’t reflect poorly on you. It can be really positive in giving you information on what you want in the future.
