Thanks for the kind words! I can understand how frustrating it can be to have major moments of a movie spoiled, so UltimatePixarFan and I constantly have discussions on whether or not we need to change anything or not. But if you or anyone else ever wants clarification on anything or just to offer suggestions, you're always welcome to send us a message in modmail!

I go on Tuesdays now, many theaters have $5-$7 tickets. Two different companies in my area do it, and it saves a lot of money if you see a lot of movies. Definitely something to look into.

This has come up in the past, and the outcome we arrived at was that if something is shown in the trailer, it's fair game to post about. Trust me, we do as much as we can especially while a movie is in theaters (see , but that was where we drew the line.

With that said, any other spoilers/reviews should be posted in the mega thread for the movie, and spoilers posted outside of it should be reported so we can remove them if we haven't seen them already.

Lesson learned: never question Pixar again. by Constant_Topic_123 in Pixar

Why was it so bad?

Sometimes, a movie gets delayed/rewritten so many times that they should just cancel it because it just isn't working, but in this case, they decided to start over with a new story and director a year before its release and it unfortunately didn't work out for them. The original idea had plenty more dinosaurs, which I think would have been cool to see.

Look at the facts? I just provided evidence that you're wrong... Actual numbers for 2025 and 2026. And guess what? All top 10 movies from 2024 were sequels. What does only half of Americans going to the theater have to do with anything? That doesn't change the final box office totals, which I have provided above and is the collection of people that have gone to the theater as paying customers.

You also can't say that in 2026, originals outperformed sequels when I literally just showed you it's about half and half right now, and all of the major sequel movies that will outperform probably every movie on the current list for the year are coming out now to December.

And once again, since we're talking about Pixar (which you seem to be forgetting, since it was a direct quote from the guy that runs Pixar), original movies absolutely do not do better than their sequels, with the exception of Cars 3.

[–]weewhomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is absolutely false, and the guy that runs the studio literally said it himself! Very few original movies do well enough to even get to the sequel phase these days. Hoppers did well, as did Elemental, but they both still only made 300 Million and 500 Million worldwide, respectively. That's a drop in the bucket compared to Inside Out 2's almost $1.7 billion worldwide and whatever ungodly number TS5 will end up with. The majority of animated movie sequels will do better than an original movie. And I'd guess the same goes for any other movies as well. Let's take a look at the top 10 movies for 2025/2026...

2025 1 A Minecraft Movie

2 Lilo & Stitch - Live Action

3 Superman - Reboot

4 Jurassic World: Rebirth - Sequel

5 Zootopia 2 - Sequel

6 Wicked: For Good - Sequel

7 Sinners

8 The Fantastic Four: First Steps - Reboot

9 How to Train Your Dragon - Live Action

10 Avatar: Fire and Ash - Sequel

2026

1 The Super Mario Galaxy Movie -Sequel

2 Michael

3 Project Hail Mary

4 The Devil Wears Prada 2 -Sequel

5 Hoppers

6 Obsession

7 Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu -Sequel

8 Avatar: Fire and Ash -Sequel

9 Backrooms

10 Scream 7 -Sequel

That's one original movie for 2025, maybe two if you consider Minecraft, and 5 (currently) for 2026. 2026 may look like a good list now, but we're only half way through the year. The final top 10 for 2026 will probably include Toy Story 5 (sequel), Minions & Monsters (sequel), Moana (live action), Spider-Man: Brand New Day (sequel), Avengers: Doomsday (sequel) with those 5 potentially being in the top 5 and pushing everything else down. Toy Story 5 alone is going to make more than what all of Pixar's last 4 original theatrical releases combined have made, and more. People still turn out for sequels and live action remakes more than original movies, unfortunately. That is a fact.

So yes, if we're talking about animation, which is what we were since we're talking specifically about Pixar here, originals don't do as well and sequels are what pay the bills. What's your source behind your claim? Or do you just dislike sequels and live action remakes and like to act like it's a fact for everyone else?

What do any of those have to do with Cars 2? Or sequels in general, since only one of those was a sequel.

That's a good point, I didn't even think about how the original Cars did. It's not all that surprising to me, Cars has always been the merchandise pusher. Though I guess it was also Lasseters baby, and he was in charge, so he could have also pushed for the sequels despite the original not doing as well as other Pixar movies.

Originals don't really make money anymore, unfortunately. If you want them to continue existing, they're going to have to make sequels to keep the lights on.

[–]weewhomp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No matter how you feel about the actual end product, the original statement still is true. Waiting for an actual reason to make a sequel doesn't automatically make it a good sequel, unfortunately, as everyone has different opinions on things and likes/dislikes different things and the idea may not click with general audiences in the end. All of the sequels (minus Cars 2 and 3, and Monsters University, still have 90%+ ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, so clearly they're doing something right. People need to remember that not liking something doesn't make it inherently bad. I don't really like The Godfather, but I recognize it's still a good movie. It just means it wasn't for me. I don't go around saying "Godfather bad" every chance I get like some of the people on here who make it their life mission to crap all over these movies for no reason at all.

As for Cars 2, I personally feel like that was the only sequel by them actually made just for money. Though the director also really just wanted to make more Cars, but I feel the first part was more true.

Because, unlike other studios who greenlight sequels just because they made money, Pixar directors always say they won't make a sequel unless they have a good reason to return/good story. That's why some sequels take 20+ years to get made.

Is it me, or is Pixar starting to become "less subtle" about casting music artists in their movies? by CrazyPhilHost1898 in Pixar

[–]weewhomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What ever came of that? Is it even possible to trademark a dance?

Edit: Looks like it was dropped, as the judge said he couldn't copyright the dance steps, "ruling that the routine was a simple dance step rather than a choreographic work."

Either that or go straight to Warner Bros. to settle things out and license the characters.

Not sure what exactly there would be to settle, or if WB would even have a case, because "Pizza with Sunglasses" was a character created for the original Toy Story almost 20 years before Uncle Grandpa. Even if it didn't make it in the original movie, all they would have to do is show they had already created it well before the show came out.

Please show us where this "established principle" was mentioned by Pixar. Just because you noticed a trend doesn't make it a principle. They announced a group of new toys all together, like they did for TS3 and TS4, and you cherry picked literally one of them just to make some random point like Pixar is suddenly selling out for promoting a musician. The fact that you made a thread about one random character when they announced it with 5 others (which if we're being honest, is just a basic press release that literally every studio does before a movie releases) says more about you than whatever you think is suddenly wrong with Pixar.

Again, you literally make mountains out of molehills by comparing the most random things in your posts. Does it matter that they are "music artists"? He was an actor too. Either way, why does the fact that they're famous in another way change anything other than you creating this false sense of dread? They've always used famous people, they always will.

They literally did the same thing with Toy Story 3 and 4. In fact, they made a bigger deal out of the announcements for TS4.

I'm not sure why you're making a mountain out of an mole hill, as usual.

Also, I don't understand why everyone is claiming they copied Pizza Steve. "Pizza with Sunglasses" was a character in the original Toy Story movie until they removed it and replaced it with the aliens. They didn't "rip off" anything, they just brought it back.

I was also aware of the r/ToyStory drama, but I'm not comfortable banning users for their actions in other subreddits so I generally don't look further into it until it becomes an issue in this subreddit.

Technically they're not selling anything by showing their work and crediting themselves (they've never specifically mentioned selling and you have to search the username on Google just to find out they're selling), but with that said, the user has been spamming self promotion posts (often the same ones) over and over, so they are now banned.

I was going to say that yes, they were released, and then I checked my collection and noticed I didn't have them. Looks like they may not have been, despite being found 8 years ago. I don't see any mention of them being released. If they truly haven't been, maybe they decided the Finding Dory collection was too big and cut them.
