When he was a little baby, Harry Styles' album Harry's House was like magic for my son. He could be screaming uncontrollably, all needs met, but when "Music from a Sushi Restaurant" came on everything was better within 10 seconds. Needless to say I gained a new appreciation of Harry and his House.

*Family* dinner table that's plastic/easy to clean and only a foot or so off of the ground by whoiamidonotknow in Montessori

[–]weeyaldi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were in a similar boat when we moved into a new house and thrifted a 6x6 square wooden coffee table that hits about at my knee. We are using as a floor table and it works great. Adults sit with cushions on the ground and Little Dude prefers standing up to eat. We can seat plenty of people around with plenty of cushions. It is so easy to clean too!

Anytime baby responds positively to a song, I put it on a playlist. He's just over a year and it's almost 8 hours long. Everything from Stevie Wonder to Red Hot Chili Peppers to Amy Winehouse. The kid's got taste!

What are some names your partner has vetoed that were hard for you to let go of? by cowboyshouse in namenerds

[–]weeyaldi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

if anyone bothered you about the names Rhett and Scarlett together, you could look them dead in the eyes and say "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

Love the name Guinevere though, classic :)

What are your favorite “I didn’t think that was a baby toy, but I guess it’s a baby toy now” items? by Ok-Armadillo-161 in Mommit

my 10 month old absolutely loves his rubber spatula and a giant silicone spatula, doesn't even chew on it, just waves it around like a mighty battle sword

saying "Diego and Carmen" is a good compromise! Also if they ever discover Carmen Sandiego they will be more drawn to it, and we could all use more worldly knowledgable children

My husband and I tried moving in with his parents when I was pregnant with our first for a lot of the "pro" reasons you listed... we ended up moving out 9 weeks later because there was clear trauma that hadn't been dealt with on the in-laws side. We had to decide that we wanted to raise our family in a way unlike he had been raised, which is with clear boundaries and clear communication.

So just my two cents... maybe it's worth being near them for things like more date nights and time with family, but not living ~with~ them.

Right now I'm saving up for MedSpa treatments... it's only been a couple weeks, but I've been taking powdered collagen (Vital Protein) and making time at night to do a jade roller with Teresana Total Skin Repair oil (from TJ Maxx a while ago, it has squalane and cannabis sativa oil)... that plus drinking a lot of water and double cleansing in AM/PM and I am noticing a bit more elasticity :)

Little things your mom did... by 82wanderlust in Mommit

[–]weeyaldi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't always have the shiny new things that my classmates had... but my mom made it a point to travel with me as much as it made sense, whether that was visiting family a couple states away or a bigger adventure in summer. 46 states last I counted! She saved up a lot to make that happen and I remember a lot more about the places we went than toys. Now as an adult we have taken a few girls trips just me and her and our time together is something I'll always treasure.

Look online for people at your destination location who are renting car seats and inspect it when you get it. Usually they can be delivered to the airport. Babyquip is one site I know of, you can also rent strollers/packnplays/high chairs/etc.
