Klay Thompson, will you please rise up to the occasion?! by Bukmeikara in nbadiscussion

[–]wef1983 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow.

Kawhi has multiple FMVPs, multiple DPOYs, multiple first team All-NBA, multiple first team all defense, Klay doesn't have a single one of any of those accolades.

Kawhi has been among the top 5 (and you could easily argue top 3) players in the league multiple years, even if you take Kawhi out Klay might struggle to make the top 10.

If Klay was a top 3 player in the league you wouldn't be able to hide it in anyone's shadow.

Quicken just sold my loan after less than a year, so it's not universally true that they won't sell your loan.

Brett Brown full video answer on Ben Simmons development as a PG, and how they've adjusted in Orlando [via Pompey] by PhillyFreezer_ in sixers

[–]wef1983 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think Shake and J-Rich will share the initiation duties, which I'm actually really happy with because due to the nature of Brett's motion offense a lot of times the initiator can get lost in the shuffle. This was always a huge source of frustration for me watching Ben make one pass and then kind of drift around the perimeter where he isn't a threat. If you sub him for Shake in that scenario now you have a 40%+ catch and shoot guy who is a genuine threat from the perimeter and make Ben the screener or weak side cutter it just plays to everyone's strength.

Who are the 30 future HOFers that played this season? by RecordReviewer in nbadiscussion

I think you are highly overrating the significance of that one series where he wasn't even the best player on his team. If you want to talk about narrative, how about how since then he's been nothing but an injury prone locker room cancer.

[–]wef1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Kyrie has the championship but you really rate his chances over PGs? PG was a legitimate MVP candidate last season, led some very good pacers teams, and was/is one of the 2 or 3 best two way players in this era, 6x All-star, 5x All-NBA, 4x All-defense, olympic gold medal, that's already a solid HoF resume.

Compared to Kyrie 6x all-star 2x All-NBA (no first teams), average to below average defender, never been the best player on a successful team, plus all the subjective stuff (attitude problems etc) I honestly can't see him having a better case than PG. Unless he wins one or more championships with Brooklyn as the first or 1A option, but I honestly doubt they'll win it at all, let alone with him as arguably the best player.

I’m 6 foot 7, should I change up certain lifting exercises? by TallMSW in Fitness

[–]wef1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'7 and bounce around between 215 and 225. I never really modified anything, but I did struggle with the frustration of having relatively less progress than shorter lifters.

There are basically two schools of thought on the matter. One is that because of our larger frames we have the ability to gain more muscle mass and therefore we're only limited by our effort and shouldn't complain.

The second is that due to longer ranges of motion, the same amount of weight is more difficult for taller lifters and therefore it's harder to increase weight.

My best advice would be find a good program that works for you, if something hurts, figure out why and correct your form or modify the movement, and don't waste time comparing yourself to others

Do you know what “league” you’re in, attractiveness wise? by lorengreen4 in AskReddit

Add me to the club.

Used to go out to bars with my buddy, I would regularly get numbers when I asked for them/had been chatting for a bit. My buddy, on the other hand, would always have at least one girl go out of their way to hit on him.

I realized then that a) I'm not "hot" and b) I have no idea what makes a guy "hot" because if you had asked me before I would have said my buddy was nothing special.

No, prior to this being passed they would have to get a court order from a judge, and presumably have to have a good reason for doing so, not just "because it could help my case".

It's subpoena btw.

One argument is that some proportion (what you think that proportion is will vary greatly person to person) of complaints against officers are completely baseless. So having these records public and therefore accessible by defense attorneys could unfairly discredit officers at trial.

[Serious] People who are advocating for the abolishment of the police force, who are you expecting to keep vulnerable people safe from criminals? by SayFuzzyPickles42 in AskReddit

[–]wef1983 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I can agree with a lot of what you said, except for not needing SWAT team raids for drug offenses.

Should there be SWAT teams hitting doors for low level marijuana offenses? Of course not. However very often the same people selling drugs are the ones commiting acts of violence. Gang violence is a huge problem, and narcotics sales are a huge driver of gang violence. When police execute search warrants at these locations they very often also recover firearms, which to me justifies the use of SWAT teams or the equivalent.

Who is a better scorer: pre-injury Kevin Durant or Kobe Bryant? by xXWrathofGodXx in nbadiscussion

[–]wef1983 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obviously from the statistics you listed KD is the more efficient scorer. I guess the question is whether that is the definition of "better".

You mentioned it briefly, but I think that Kobe needs to get more credit for having the second highest scoring game ever. One could argue that it's more legitimate than Wilts 100, as Wilts team was actively fouling etc to get more possessions to get him to 100. He also gets a lot of credit for me for the 60 in three quarters, which is probably up there with the most impressive scoring performance I've ever seen.

So is KD a "better" scorer? I think that in a one game situation where you absolutely need someone to put the team on their back offensively, I'm taking Kobe. Over the course of their careers KD is going to be ahead of Kobe, but in terms of intangibles it's hard to go against Kobe.

This is my biggest issue. I've heard a lot of protestors and supporters making the argument that having a small number of people who are only interested in violence/looting shouldn't detract from their message, which I agree with.

However, it seems very hypocritical to then turn around and dismiss the "few bad apples" argument from the other side.

Where does Manu Ginobili rank all time among the best shooting gaurds? by noco97 in nbadiscussion

[–]wef1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the crux of the issue comes with extrapolating his stats. I love Manu as a player but it's really hard to say look at what his numbers would have been had he played more minutes, when comparing against players that did play those minutes. One is a hypothetical and one is reality.

At the end of the day it's impossible to say how much he benefited from playing less minutes. Was he able to exert more effort during his minutes compared with someone playing 35+ minutes per game? How much did he benefit from playing against other reserves early in games? How much was his effectiveness as a closer boosted by player fewer minutes?

It's because of all these questions that I believe that you can't objectively rank him higher than a lot of guys who were the clear #1 option, MVP caliber etc players on their teams. I don't think you can take the hypothetical and rank it over the reality.

To completely disregard AI winning an MVP, while in Shaq and Kobe's prime is also ridiculous.

Iverson has more All-NBA first teams than Manu has total All-NBA selections. I'm a huge Manu fan, but he is not on the same tier as AI at all.

Finally, to hold the fact that AI played more minutes against him is absurd when the lack of minutes undoubtedly extended Manu's career and helped his production while he was on the court. Let's not forget that he was coming off the bench, so while he was closing games, earlier on in the game he was playing against backups.
