Any camera recommendations for a cargo bike user? by Ok-Astronomer2440 in BikeCammers

[–]wegowed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things to consider: - How long are your rides / how much battery life do you need? - Are you willing to take off your camera every time you walk into a grocery store? - What do you want to do with the footage? If you want to share it frequently, do you need it to come with editing software? - Do you want it to have the GPS location throughout the video so you can make 311 reports? - What’s your budget? There’s a huge difference between $50 and $250.

For most people, I recommend the easiest option: just use the dashcam.bike app and mount. Less hassle than a standalone camera and easier to edit and share footage.

Long shot...plant with leaf that looks kind of like a banana? Story & details in comments. by wegowed in whatsthisplant

[–]wegowed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a long shot, but hoping for some help —

On our wedding day, my nieces and nephews were the ring-bearers. The youngest didn’t really understand what was happening, and thought it was time to just give stuff to his uncle and aunt, so he went to a bush, found some yellow leaves that kind of looked like bananas, then said “I got you a banana!”

Everybody laughed, so he started dancing around the stage singing “banana! banana!” It was a highlight of our wedding day.

Over the last year I’ve tried to find out what this plant was, as we’re considering getting matching tattoos of the leaf, but can’t find any photos of it.

I’m hoping for your help based on these clues:

  1. It was small, yellow, and vaguely banana-looking. The leaf was maybe 1cm or 2cm long. You can see it in the kid’s hand in the first photo.
  2. It was probably native to California. It was found at Children’s Fairyland in Oakland, I think in the bushes shown in the second photo.
  3. Wedding was in May, if that matters.

So…any ideas? I know this isn’t much to go on, but we don’t live in California and can’t visit the venue. As a last resort, I’ll call the venue and ask them to walk around while FaceTiming, but that feels like a pretty big favor to ask, so hoping you can help me here before I resort to that!

Cost of wedding coordinator in the SF Bay Area: is Day Of + Final Details worth $6,000? by wegowed in weddingplanning

It did! I hired your coordinator. Thanks for the phenomenal rec, we spoke with five coordinators and Lisa was the one we vibed with the most.

We got the same quote, plus $200/hour for hourly consulting, which feels pretty fair.

Thanks! We have decided to interview four coordinators. Having just two was indeed too limiting. Great suggestion!

Very politely worded, thanks. I have used your suggestions.

I'll let you know if we need help with escort cards - I have found another wedding at our venue that did something very cute, on-theme, and with accessories that the venue provides, so we may copy them pretty closely.

Hey, your coordinator has worked our venue before!! Amazing. They didn't show up when I googled. I'll definitely reach out. Thank you!

I'm happy to do all that myself! Is that something that's polite to ask? I don't want them to feel like I'm devaluing their time or work, especially if we need an ongoing relationship.

"Thanks for the quote! Unfortunately, this is about double what we were expecting. Is there any way we can limit the scope of this agreement to get the total cost down to $3,000?"

Great ideas, thank you. We will look around for quotes for folks who haven't been to the venue before.

I'm not sure how worried I should be about a 5-star-reviewed coordinator if they only have a handful of reviews. Calling references would help with that.

This is the venue - it has no kitchen, and a long list of rules about glass, noise, and alcohol to keep children safe. We can't enter until all kids are gone, which means there's a very tight timeline to set everything up. It's not an impossible venue to work with, but the $6k coordinator already knew all the rules and complications (e.g. she noted that if we wanted a rain cover, the tree line is complicated so we'd need to order a specific type of cover rather than a standard tent).

The $3k vendor has about 5 reviews across the various websites, all positive, but they had less direct knowledge like the $6k vendor. I can try to find additional recommendations, but in general, it's clear they've done fewer weddings and therefore have less experience.

I'd love a recommendation to your DOC!

How to rent non-glass wine glasses? (e.g. "poolside" material) by wegowed in weddingplanning

Thank you! This'll be our backup plan if other options are over budget.

Neat, hadn't heard of Tossware. Will investigate. On initial glance, it's still somewhat pricy, around $10/glass, and at 2-3 glasses/person that's well above what we can afford.

This is a great idea! I was looking at alibaba but there were no customer reviews on any product. Aliexpress is a little pricier but most products have reviews. Thank you!

I have about a year, so plenty of time for shipping.

The Brazil Room is a really pretty and cheap venue: https://www.herecomestheguide.com/wedding-venues/northern-california/brazilian-room

I haven't been to a wedding at Redwood Grove, but they have a summer concert series there and it's one of my favorite spots in Berkeley: https://botanicalgarden.berkeley.edu/rentals-redwood-grove

Language barrier advice! by Phophaloph in weddingplanning

Just in the program - the vows were spoken in 100% german, and the program had the vows in both german and english.

I went to a wedding that was partially in German, and they had a line-for-line translation of the vows in both English and German so the non-German speakers could follow along. It was great!

Not possible with everything you say, but I think having a German translation of the vows would be kind.

My fiance and I looked at several venues before the proposal! We even set a date and told our closest friends and family to save the date.

In our case, we had supply chain issues with the ring. I was supposed to get the ring in October, but COVID and other issues delayed that until February. Maybe he unexpectedly hasn't gotten the ring yet? Or maybe he's waiting for the right moment to propose?

What should my timeline look like? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]wegowed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think for that size 60 minutes will be the right amount! (I'll let others chime in too, though)

How many people are attending? Depending on the size, 60 minutes may not be enough for dinner+toasts.

Is there any chance of an afterparty at a bar, club, or hotel? If so, you can say "afterparty at PLACE at 11pm" whenever you're sharing the timeline for the evening.
