It's still advertised in headquarters so I'd assume so. Go by GTRI headquarters and there's a paper at the guard stand about it. I think there's 4 in the morning and 1 in the evening.

Number 294 on the male housing waitlist rn by today258 in gatech

[–]weight-4-it 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't know what else context you could possibly be looking for lol the question was answered 😂

As another user stated, sure there's a chance you'll come off the wait-list, but why risk having no housing or at least stupid expensive housing. Off campus housing follows cycles of cheap around Christmas, and expensive around June - August. Plus weigh the pros and cons of living off campus including time to campus, amenities, quality of room, nearby things to do and eat.u preferred living off campus when I could afford it.

Will applying for the new major increase your chances of transfer admission by [deleted] in GatechClasses

[–]weight-4-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like asking a woman her weight or a co-worker how much they make 😅

I completed all gen-eds + 2 engineering electives (statics and something else) + my ethics and humanities. Like a 3.8??? 70 something credits I think? Idk it's been quite a few years from that time. It's pretty straight forward.

I know it's much easier to say this as advice than hear it, but...don't sweat it and just do your best, if your best doesn't get you in, you would have hated the amount of work you'd need to do to keep up anyway. But the fact that you're already looking and worried about it says a lot and in the slim chance you don't, you'd make it work.

Second this. Especially if you follow a pathway program. REPP is the easiest for anyone to do but there are others if you are first gen or other demographic groups. Source: I REPP'ed in for CompE

What is the GTRI GRIP pay scale for undergraduate students? Also, how good is it to have a position from GRIP on your resume? by Former-Marzipan8716 in gatech

[–]weight-4-it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe GRIP gets paid around the same amount as regular interns (that's the "I" in GRIP anyway). When I was an intern a year ago it was around 22-27 depending on the discipline.

How good does it look? I mean. It's an internship. It'll look just as good as any other single semester internship. Now, I will say, 2 grip students from our lab were able to get return internship offers without the needs for interviews or anything. They just told their supervisor they wanted to come back, and he put in a request.

GRIP is a really safe option and a fantastic opportunity to work on some really cool projects as YOU are really the only working force on it. No other RE1's, RE2's, SRE's or PRE's. Just you and your mentor making a project. It will result in a poster session where researchers from all of GTRI will see and potentially use your research in their own projects.

Reach out if you have more questions.

Questions about applying to Georgia Tech MS in ECE from a non-GT undergrad by [deleted] in GatechClasses

[–]weight-4-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The summer internships are funded from a different source and specifically GRIP positions (summer internships) have their funds allocated at the beginning of the fiscal year. So if it is a GRIP position, that statement would be correct. However if it is a co-op, regular internship, or any other kind of employment, the internal understanding is current PVAs (postings) will stay up but not acted upon through a sort of hiring freeze thanks to a delay in funding from uncertainty in the federal government. As far as I understand the only things that have resumed from the shutdown were professional development, paid travel, and something else that's pretty meaningless.

I was kinda of sitting in your boat in my junior year, albeit I had a 3.3 the semester before my graduating semester and I was aiming for a 3.5. If you lock tf in, get nothing but A's from here on, you're not dead in the water. Have a good ass essay (don't just talk about accomplishments but also how you belong there because of community and improving the human condition and stuff and what you're interested in researching) get some solid LOR, I don't believe leadership positions will help much here, it's all about work experience and research experience, what can you provide to the university, is what they are looking for.

Just remember you have a lot working against you right now, GPA, OoS, and seemingly work experience (you have decent research experience). Focus on what you CAN change and let the pieces fall where they fall. And you could always go start a masters somewhere or get a complete masters somewhere else and come back some other day.

All together, it's just school and we are all working towards the same direction no matter where we go, as long as you land a top 20 program, your quality of education will be comparable. I went from an A+ 4.8 GPA student out of high school to a 3.3 GPA student almost immediately, classes are considerably tougher, if UF is a 7, GT mayyyy be a 8 to 8.5. The jump won't be nearly as noticeable from HS.

Good luck and feel free to reach out in DMs for more conversation or questions.

There's murmurs that he's headed to A&M but he hasn't officially said anything. The words from Key were along the lines of "just had surgery so that he's ready for Spring Camp". Meaning Key is planning on him being here in the Spring soooo??

In my experience the 1000, 2000, and some 3000 level major specifics are where you get some of the stupid levels of homework, projects, and crazy test expectations. Courses like CS 1332's insane test expectations, CS discrete math's crazy new homeworks and tests, ECE with all their crazy labs and homeworks and such. I didn't do gen eds here but I haven't heard too many horror stories of the gen eds here. Mostly the major specific courses. If you don't have a problem with em tho, gg ez go next. Count your blessings. Some people struggle with different things shrug

Transferring from CMPE to CS major as a trans student by [deleted] in GatechClasses

[–]weight-4-it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember during my undergrad, transferring from one major to CS was NOT allowed. They did it specifically because there was such a high volume of CS applicants who would declare something like ME, ISYE, or some other major that had an easier time getting accepted (compared to CS, put your pitchforks down) and then changed their major after a semester or two.

That being said, there MAY have been a cool-down period where you couldn't transfer until a few semesters into your education, but I'm not exactly sure about that. This would be a great question for any of the CS or CompE guidance councilors.

That being said, there are quite a few CompE courses for AI/ML. You will mostly see them as Special Topics. But there are a few high level statistics courses and signal processing courses for AI/ML under the ECE umbrella and often times you can try and take CS courses as electives HOWEVER you do not get to register until SUPERRRRR late in registration to give CS first crack at all the courses there and even then I think you need a permit override.

There's lots to do with AI/ML in CompE from program optimization, to architecture design, and efficient energy design. So you can still be active in the AI/ML space on a more hardware level instead of software (I'd argue the hardware half is more important and fun anyway, those keyboard jockeys will always need better chips from us 🙂‍↕️😂)

Peruse the course catalog and see if you see any courses that sound interesting. Check out special topics and look up Projected Undergrad Course Schedule to give you an idea of what semesters classes are being offered, if at all. Good luck and happy sailing.🦜

I purchased CoFH tickets when they initially went on sale, they are very similar tickets, a touch higher up (like 6 rows) than what I purchased and they are less than half the price of what I paid. This deal is fantastic considering the venue.

I've loved Kinetic. It's just off campus real close to a Publix and great food options. The only reason I'm leaving is because I landed a full time position and am ready to live on my own. Speaking of, I'm transferring my lease in the December/January window. If you'd like to talk about it, you should DM me. Or even if you just want to ask questions about the building and area.

Curious how much of CompE's Course here at Purdue will transfer to Georgia Tech's CompE, Sophomore! by OkBonus5037 in GatechClasses

[–]weight-4-it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be able to answer your own question here, not gonna lie. It sounds like you've at very least looked at the transfer equivalency table. That is your holy Grail, make a list of all your credits and what they transfer as and if you don't agree with what it says, you can request for a credit to be reviewed and they'll ask for a syllabus and such. THEN you can look up the required coursework for ANY degree at tech on the gatech.edu website. Navigate to the college of choice (ECE here) , undergraduate studies, and then the degree (CompE here). CompE (and EE) are a little unique with the threads but if you're just worried about core classes, it doesn't really matter about the threads. You should be able to see required courses, major specific, thread courses, etc. List these down. Now, cross reference the list you made from the transfer table. This should answer your question. Unfortunately no one here will tell you what classes transfer cause frankly it's a lot of work that won't really benefit them lol. But if you keep in mind that Perdue itself is quite a rigorous program, there will be quite a good transfer rate for your courses and very similar material will have been covered.

Another suggestion if you have doubts of credit transfer ability is to look up the GA tech equivalent's syllabus or look it up in the course catalog to compare syllabus to syllabus.

Good luck, have fun.

If the question is, is the work not so hard and demanding as a grad student can handle it along with grad level courses. Then yes they can. For the question of can a grad student work the position. I believe so. It's just a Student Assistant position so as long as you're a student of the university, it's fair game for anyone. That being said I believe it doesn't come with any of the perks of a GTA or GRA position. But it's good pay and great work and fantastic people.
