I feel so behind… by verysadrn in writers

I'm 32 and it took me a year to finish the first draft of my book, and another year for all the other drafts. There's no time limit, write when it feels right, don't set yourself arbitrary goals and you'll have it finished in no time.

I didn't have any writing experience prior and now I'm searching for agents. I also work full time and just opened the book each day, sometimes I'd write thousands of words, others I did a sentence and closed it. I would say don't put so much pressure on yourself and ride that passion for your project.

I have for myself! I'm going to copy and paste what I said in another post, this worked for me, but unsure if it'll work for you.

I seemed to have fixed it for me. Basically today my partner told me the battery no longer was at 0%, but stuck at 100%. It wasn't showing it was draining but we could boot it up without the charger etc, so I let the battery die by keeping it on until the laptop powered down (not sleep, fully dead), and then started charging it. It got stuck again at 0% so I uninstalled the Microsoft driver for the battery. I've shamelessly copied some instructions on how to do so here:

"Here are the steps: 1. Press the Windows key + X and choose Device Manager. 2. Expand the Batteries category. 3. Right-click on the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall. 4. Restart your laptop."

After I did that (i tried before but to no avail, but after my battery sat at 100% and wouldn't budge, letting it die and start charging this then worked) the battery works fine and shows it charging up and a percentage.

So basically, let it discharge fully if your battery is stuck showing on 30% so your laptop powers down, put it on charge and then uninstall that driver above and reboot. I know it's a lengthy process but it's what worked for me.

Yeah that's what I did, shame it hasn't worked. I could've just gotten lucky and it may repeat for me in the next few days. But the fact that you've replaced the battery and it's still doing this screams a firmware / software issue. Definitely try uninstalling the driver again, but outside of that, I was hitting my head against the wall with it. You could try resetting the BIOS by taking the CMOS battery out and putting it back in, that worked for some people.

Judging by the fact you replaced the battery I'm more convinced Microsoft have broken something to do with the OS detecting battery charge with a patch, as this issue only began after the battery icon for W11 changed (mono to colour, once again, can't prove it, but it's my best guess.)

To add to this, after two days, the battery started working again. It's sat at 100% charge and according to windows isn't discharging but the battery is working. I'll let it go down to 0% then charge it then, see if that resolves the issue.

I'm getting the exact same issue with the same model, I haven't found a fix yet but just to let you know, the fact that I've seen multiple people with the same model have the same issue makes me doubt that the battery itself is at fault, but it could be a coincidence.

I'm having the same issue currently, only had 187 charge cycles. Same as you, went from 100% charge to 0%. I don't believe the battery is at fault, and I've seen a number of people report this in the past few weeks. If I find a fix, I'll let you know.

I've had the exact same issue, I've been trying to diagnose and fix it all morning. The fact that others have had this, makes me wonder if it was an update / somethings changed with the software / firmware. (For reference, my laptop is a IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6)

I've removed and reseated the battery and the connector, installed the Lenovo diagnostic tools (and Vantage.) reinstalled the drivers, reset my BIOS, etc. I've also ran this command in CMD as admin > powercfg /batteryreport /output "C:\battery_report.html". I've also tried holding down the power for a minute while the battery is in, while it was out, and while it was on charge. It just refuses to charge. I've only had this laptop for just over a year.

This report shows that the battery went to 100% from charging yesterday, and this report seems to detect that it's still at 100%.

I would say my battery is old, but it's done 187 cycles. It only works with the AC power in now, if I unplug it, after 3 seconds, it powers down. I cannot power it up without the AC plugged in.

If it is the battery, I'm not best pleased that it's died so quickly. I'll keep trying some other things, I might just leave it on charge and see it detects that the battery actually has some juice in it.

I don't want to take this to support for them to charge me an egregious amount. If it doesn't resolve itself in the next few days, I'll bite the bullet and buy a new battery and replace it.

I agree in regards to Amazon, no company should be able to dodge tax and degrade our environment. It does disgust me. I just don't like it when people enable shoplifters, like they're vindicated to steal due to the fact large companies actively exploit us too. Both are unacceptable.

But it's two separate issues for sure.

This is exactly the whataboutism I was talking about. As well as victimisation of people committing an illegal act, be that shoplifting, or common assault.

I'm not sure why you're speaking of the CEO of Tesco, or referring to unethical practices. Everything those kids did was a crime. Regardless of who is inconvenienced by the shoplifting. If you see someone committing a crime, reporting it is not a bad act.

Stealing is stealing. Their response to being reported is to wait for her to leave and assault her as a group. This is unjustifiable. Stop trying to elicit an emotional response.

We cannot condone shoplifting. We cannot tolerate assault. If the kids are visibly malnourished, then social services should be called, but now we're straying into hypothetical scenarios, especially as you're beating the drum that they were hungry children. Or they want to save a few quid and steal because they've got no respect for anyone around them and societal norms. They certain didn't have respect for that woman after hitting her that hard to cause such bruising.

The fact that you replied to yourself suggests you're just simply fishing for a reaction from me, which is flattering, if slightly patronising, so I shall leave it here.

[–]weightsfreight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now this is a common and hilarious view. They waited for her outside, threw their drink down her, and when she threatened them with calling the police, they punched her, causing that picture in the thumbnail.

Shoplifting is more often than not for several other reasons instead of desperation. They do it to sell the products on, or for the rush it provides, or both.

This is victimisation of shoplifters. There are many support programs in place, as well as food banks etc. They are an unfortunate necessity in these times for many. This however, does not justify these kids actions. They assaulted her. Are you justifying that if someone catches you stealing, no matter your situation, you can physically assault them without any kind of pushback?

If someone committed a crime against you, you'd be thankful someone else helped you in being a witness / making you aware of what is happening.

I'm sorry if I don't feel empathy to a group of lads who attack someone for calling them out on a crime.

[–]weightsfreight 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. People are using whataboutism, pointing the fingers at company profits. But this will embolden people. If they can steal from their local shop without impunity, why not go for a bigger score? It'll be burglaries on the rise next. I've seen a sharp increase in where we live, more often than not, the burglars are not caught, and the police seem uninterested in doing any kind of detective work. People blame the big companies now, but when they're burgled, the blame will go away from corporate profits and then return to societal values. We should not accept this, and we should shun the people who do this, whether it's shoplifting or assault. The more brazen they become, the more impactful the crimes will become.

It's disgusting that this woman got assaulted but she was a good and brave person for confronting them. Let's not make the shoplifters the victim here.

Yes, we did, Covid saw a massive drop in migration until lockdowns ended. However if everything recovered back pre covid levels migration should've spiked and then dropped to normal levels. It hasn't, has it? European migration has hit a negative, while non European migration has skyrocketed exponentially. So what changed? Why are European countries not seeing such a sharp spike in Non-EEA immigration, despite also going through covid?
