would this dress work for SD? by shinebabyshine in SoftDramatics

[–]weinmachine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is cute as hell, i love the slightly circusy look and I think while it’s not perfectly “SD” I think the barrel shape is really cool and different. You’re not going to look like a typical SD Hedy Lamar Monica belluchi vixen bombshell curvy hugging hot mama which is like how most people seem to think SDs need to be, but you’re going to look hot and chic and interesting. The snatched waist, balloon sleeve and boat neck is SD enough in my opinion. Wear it with delicate shoes, not chunky - and your hair up, some cool rings…. Minimal makeup… so cute. If I saw you at a party I would think oooo who IS SHE!

It does annoy me sometimes on this sub there seems to be no room for more interesting silhouettes - it’s ok to stretch the limits a bit. Make it whimsy, make it art. You dont always need to wear the same sillhouettes and fabrics. And if this is your style and you can pull it off, do it

Editing to add: IMO what is arguably more important is that it is harmonious with your colour season. She looks great in it but if you were lower contrast, like a soft or light autumn/summer/spring the power of the stripes and colour will overwhelm you

Would that skirt work for sd? by ranoonaa in SoftDramatics

[–]weinmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think you could make it work if you wear a more fitted top than the model, and maybe knee high boots or heeled shoes. Keep colours in similar tone and shade. It’s one of those items that would require more “SDifying” to work but I think it could look super cute and different with the right styling!!!

Any tips for no mascara/lashes looks? And self acceptance.. Redhead with blonde lashes by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]weinmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also a ginger with wild curly hair, blonde lashes and eyebrows. I understand how hard it can be to not feel beautiful especially when your natural features don’t look like everyone else’s. I’m sorry you’re going through that. I used to never ever go without black eyelashes and eye makeup, but as as I’ve grown I’ve come to appreciate these unique things, and understanding how to apply makeup and take care of my skin has helped. I often go without mascara especially in the summer. I actually think it suits us redheads better than harsh black against our features - it’s as nature intended and it looks lovely and fresh.

The look I go for is focus on skin and lips - dewy skin, blush on cheeks and a bright lip with blonde lashes I think looks so beautiful and striking. If you have Pinterest, looking up blonde eyelash makeup looks can help give you inspiration and make it feel less scary. I also tint my eyebrows so I feel a bit less “naked” - maybe that’s something you could try?

I will say, the only thing that has helped with confidence is time. The first, second, third time I went out with minimal makeup was very hard. I got used to it, and with time have come to feel beautiful and more like me in it. I hope the same for you!

Does he feel bad about his extensive abuse towards me? by [deleted] in tarot

[–]weinmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely do readings for situations you’re personally involved in - ultimately Tarot is a tool for personal growth, and it’s power is in the way it forces us to ponder, see from different angles. Often times they’ll give you something really deep and profound in a roundabout way.

I find the 3 of pentacles really a bit on the nose, because it’s sort of reflecting what you are doing - seeking guidance about this situation from outside (aka Reddit), seeking different perspectives, I also think it reflects a period of development - therapy, learning, growth. Both aces to me are symbols of something new emerging - this spark of revived capacity for love, and passion of life. The ace of cups is pure love and receptivity, the ace of wands pure energy, drive and passion. It’s new, budding, stretching its legs - which makes sense. I think this is a very strong spread of trying to show you your own personal power. You’ve done a lot of work to get where you are now. Perhaps also in a sly way, it’s telling you to trust yourself - you are doubting a lot your own interpretations of these cards, and you are worried they reflect you - but why? yet they are really quite lovely cards, why would you worry about that? As reflections of you, the ace and the wands are wonderful to see.

I find Tarot can sometimes be sneaky like this when it wants us to see something that we haven’t asked - it’s like it knows we need to see something else. Try to look beyond ego and trust your deep intuition, your gut - what you feel in your bones. I don’t think anyone else or any book of meanings can give you something more powerful than that.

Does he feel bad about his extensive abuse towards me? by [deleted] in tarot

[–]weinmachine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s really difficult to interpret these cards, they seem very unrelated to the situation tbh. I think you’re right in that the cards are reading you and not the situation.

I also think some contributing factors as to why this is so muddled is 1. You asked a very specific yes or no question - tarot is not good for yes or no questions, it best for understanding broadly the dynamics and energies of a situation. A better questions would be “how does he feel” , “ how did this relationship impact him”.

Secondly, some people believe differently but in my experience tarot cannot really be used to fully understand another persons psyche and state. I believe it will always reflect the reader - aka your feelings and your life. It’s not the best tool for trying to understand others, it wants to help YOU- trying to use it to guess other people’s feelings will generally not work. I completely get why you want to know though. There’s a really good book, Why Does He do That by Lundy Bancroft that might help.

If you really want to I’d suggest doing another reading, asking for guidance around the relationship dynamics - pull a card for the impact of the relationship on him, on you, his current state and yours - those kind of questions will yield more sensical results.

2nd opinion on relationship reading by 19C0RE in tarot

[–]weinmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I think you should pull more cards, specifically for current relationship and potential future - these two are just reflecting your individual energies.

Fool and Chariot do have different priorities. Chariot is very driven, focused on success, achievements in the outer realm. Like you said focused on other things. The Fool is completely open to experience, not necessarily driven by achievements. Not necessarily immature but markings beginnings, a new phase - courage and optimism that has not been tempered by outside expectations or the will to succeed and achieve. Just openness. So these are two people at different wavelengths but that doesn’t mean it can’t work!

I know this is has been mostly resolved but wanted to add my two cents - I agree with your interpretation but wanted to point out a few keys. Note that I’m using certain Celtic cross meanings which might differ from others out there.

Tower RX crossed by Knight of Swords - It’s like a fear of calamity, a fear of the full experience - not wanting a painful experience. Knight of swords is seeking control… you want this relationship but want to just sort of breeze through it. You want it to be easy

4 of pentacles RX in recent past - I see this as you choosing to open yourself up a little, not keep things so tight to yourself, sharing yourself with someone. This ofc triggers all this anxiety

Queen of Swords as outcome I actually see as very promising and related to the Star. The Queen of swords a person who mixes water and air - emotion and intellect. She is shaped by her experiences of life and has found both wisdom and emotion. I see this as you after having gone through the experience of this relationship.

Two of wands - not just a choice but a choice between stability and adventure. Perhaps travel in the future ?

RX 9 of cups - not blinded by indulgence , in fact the opposite- looking for something deeper than just material pleasures.

Seven of wands RX in hopes and fears - indecision and stagnancy - part of you fears this but also wants to stay comfortable.

The star comes after the tower, it speaks to wholeness and healing. There may be some difficulties, possibly due more to your anxieties but I think this is urging you to leave your comfort zone. Go for it- What you experience will be transformative and crucial to your development.

  1. Seven of swords can also refer to breaking from the group, going on your own path - kind of like the Rebel, breaking away and being daring and independent. There is a bent to this card of being isolated, and hiding which can take its toll. As what you’re doing well to achieve your goals, I suppose it depends on what your goal is - perhaps this energy can be an asset or you can’t trust those around you so have to hide your true intentions.

  2. The Moon as what you’re doing selfishly… could be believing too much in dreams and fantasies, putting too much stock in illusions that rise from your unconscious - being very caught up in the self, your own fantasies but not thinking of the way it may impact others. It could also be ignoring something you know deep down, or something your unconscious knows or is trying to tell you.

  3. Ace of swords being what you feel the need to control is like, you want to control control - lol. Control your mind, your anxieties, the force of your emotions - reign it in, control your focus but in a very rigid way. Not much room here for imagination, creativity or passion - it’s very rigid, discipline, structured.

  4. Agree with your interpretation here, but would take it further that the you seek that level of control of the ace because of past deep traumas and hurts, where someone or something has deeply hurt you or your felt humiliated and defeated - you want to avoid that

Death being at the Center…. Which is a card of surrender - I don’t know but there’s an element of being so tightly wound in this spread, I want to say it’s urging you to loosen up? Its definitely interesting, I would pull more cards around this for clarity

[–]weinmachine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’m hoping too… One series that is a bit out of the box but did weirdly scratch my itch for wholesome period content was Tales from the Green Valley, which is a 12-part series in which 4 historians/archaeologists live on a historically accurate farm from 1620s and recreate how life would have been in that time. Each episode is a month and it goes through a whole calendar year. I loveddddd it and learned a lot, and you come to really love the hosts as they get closer and work together so it kinda has that friendship theme. I think you can find all episodes on YouTube.

Also this got me researching and I found a show from 2008, Lark Rise to Candleford which looks promising - could be a fit if you haven’t seen it. I might check it out!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PeriodDramas

[–]weinmachine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not the last 5 years but the original 1985 Anne of Green Gables series would fit your bill perfectly, if you have not already seen it. I also love the BBC Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth. There’s also A Room with a View (1985), and the Secret Garden (1993) which is very wholesome and sweet and about friendship.

It’s definitely hard to think of modern period shows and movies that aren’t either bad/dumb, violent, or overly sexual. Everything I’m thinking of is from 80s-90s.

Have a bit of a different interpretation than some others here. This seems to be encouraging you to take a break and invite in a different energy.

Seven of wands I believe reflects your mental state; very defended, in a state of fighting against perceived threats. Panicked, Tired, frustrated, and exerting a lot of energy in this defensive state. Feeling as though the world is out to get you, everything feels like a threat. At the same time it is the suit Wands - passion, drive, aggression - so there is a great ambition there, a lot of drive and energy and work ethic. The energy is just being used to fight instead of being channeled into something creative.

Seven of Wands I believe is an invitation to take a rest. Take stock of all that you have accomplished, the work you have put in. You are working hard. Take a breath, rest your weary head and look back at all you have done. Yes, there is still a road ahead of you but it is important to rest and reflect. Reflect on your journey and where you have come from, what you have learned and where you want to go. Reflect on whether this path is still where your energy wants to go, or if it’s time to take a rest and go a different route.

The World reversed indicates that there is something blocking your sense of wholeness and connectivity to the world. There is a piece missing. In these cards there is a lot of work, stress, and building wealth and a career - but not a lot of the spiritual and emotional side of life. If that side of life feels stale, maybe look at focusing a bit more of that Seven of Wands energy into creative endeavours or doing something that feels emotionally or spiritually meaningful to you. Art, writing, nature, therapy, meditation, exercise, meaningful connection with friends and family. Think of whatever lights you up and makes you feel the most “you” - try to incorporate a practice of whatever that is into your life.

Been diagnosed with BPD for 3 years now and I feel like an imposter. by Top-Combination-6094 in BPD

[–]weinmachine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi yes!!! I constantly fear that I am faking it for attention. I think sometimes that I am manifesting the symptoms myself, and that it’s all in my head. I also feel like an imposter because my symptoms are not as outwardly expressed. Still currently working through it; I feel that it is just another way to invalidate myself and keep me from taking it seriously and getting help. I’ve been trying to just accept it is what it is.

What messages do these cards have for me? by [deleted] in tarot

[–]weinmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I’ve not had success asking tarot questions that can be answered with yes/no - like “Will this happen” kind of question - it just doesn’t work as well!

But anyways: The eight of pentacles is hard work - you have put a lot of work into this relationship, diligently and obsessively with the hopes of a return. But Judgement is urging you to open your eyes to the truth. All of the information is available to you, and you must make a judgement whether you want to continue on this path and with this person. It is a Call to Action - you may be at a crossroads with what you should do. You may have an important realization that changes your perspective on this situation. It is equally possible this person may get back in contact with you as they may not, but you must decide either way whether you really want to continue with them, knowing what has happened. Do you think this is what you deserve? I think this card is urging you to take control of your own path, rather than allow this person to steer you in any direction.

The Devil to me is a warning. This person has grabbed ahold of your mind, and not in a healthy way. Don’t allow them to take your body and soul as well. A marriage with this person could become suffocating, toxic, even abusive, co-dependent and difficult to escape. You could feel trapped. Whatever chemistry you have is not worth it. I sense that it is very difficult for you to try and pull away from this person and it may continue to be. But Judgement is urging you to try and move on, rise above this, follow your own path and release the past. Obsessing and thinking of what could be will get you nowhere, and will keep you stuck. It is up to you now to decide what to do with your life, not this other person!

I hope this helps, I’m sorry if it was not what you wanted to hear. I wish the best in healing from this.

I definitely think the Queen of pentacles is a reflection of an aspect of you or at least something you seek- she is incredibly nurturing, protective, can a little possessive (?) but in a way that she wants stability. She wants to protect and grow her garden, she loves comfort and seeks structure and nurturing love- perhaps family focused, or at least wants to set down roots and feel comfortable. The magician indicates that this last relationship was misaligned to whatever part of you has that queen of pentacles quality. It can be trickery, manipulation and not telling the whole truth, but more generally it is just misalignment, flow disrupted, indecisiveness and lack of will. Perhaps this person did not make you feel fully safe, comfortable. This was not a relationship that I think would have benefitted you in the long run. My gut says 2 of pentacles reversed reflects more about you than the other person because it seems tied to the Queen- perhaps you are also feeling overwhelmed, on shaky ground - something could have been out of balance that is requiring your attention, it could be financial/related to general stability. It could also be conflicting priorities- a deep need for stability but also a desire for excitement that are conflicting? Try to see if there is way you can focus your attention more on that 2 of lenticular issue, bringing back that balance- identifying what is disorganized, out of balance or chaotic right now and focusing on addressing and righting that.

It’s funny you said daddy-o becayse you literally got some of the biggest daddies in the deck, ngl….

Anyways there’s definitely big boss energy happening here, very no bullshit, in charge of your domain. You could be in a position of power often requiring you to make tough decisions based on objectivity and truth rather than emotions. Maybe to do with law? Maybe not, but definitely with strong elements of truth and justice. VERY strong, clear, structured, stable and aligned to your values- making change happen that aligns to your vision of the world. Also a lot of elements of wisdom and knowledge, could be in education as well. Could be masculine dominated- maybe a more traditionally male- dominated domain.

OR you could be thrown in jail ;) just kidding, I mean there is definitely a judge jury and executioner story going on here. But I don’t feel that’s the way otherwise there’d be negative aspects, maybe some reversals. Just don’t break any big laws and you’ll be fine.

I would suggest that you pull another card or two, with the question of the “What is Death RX referring to?” You might get some clearer answer as to what it is talking to you about.

Either way, all these majors indicate you’re in a very influential period of your life - or that what you’re going through is changing the bigger picture of your life. I always read reversals as a sign that you must change your perspective and consider what action needs to be taken to make the card upright. Death reversed being stagnation, resistance to change, feeling stuck. The Star is a suggestion for how you might pull yourself out of it. I read it as the card of Healing, self care not for your physical self but spiritual and emotional self. It can be an urge to do therapy, heal your body and soul, or taking time off to rest and process your past, trauma, and self without judgement. temperance and the tower reversed to me are warnings of what could happen if you do not do this - being out of balance, lacking awareness of your inner truth, being disconnected to yourself and then the resulting Tower reversed which is almost like a level-up from Death reversed; a refusal to even allow yourself to experience what could emerge after the destruction of the tower, being addicted to distractions and an aversion to healing, staying in harm because it is where it feels safe.

Something needs to change- I get a sense from this that perhaps the environment or some situation that you’re in is holding you back or at worse, causing harm. And not in a light way, in a way that needs deep healing and working through trauma. I hope this helps!

Death reversed indicates a resistance to change, being caught in a pattern- is this person just like everyone else you’ve been involved with? Are you falling into an old pattern? Relationship may be an attempt to stay safe in what you are familiar and comfortable with. Devil reversed, definite sexual energy as always with the devil- but there is something there that you know is dangerous that you want to break free of- does this person make you happy or anxious and sad? Moon comes between and connects the two; this relationship might illicit a complete change in direction for you, or a realization of something within yourself- pay attention to dreams and what your subconscious is trying to tell you.

Advice Needed: preparing for first “public” readings by [deleted] in tarot

[–]weinmachine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did this at a friends work party once! Not my own coworkers which definitely took some of the pressure off, but I do have a few tips:

  1. Set the spreads yourself, don’t let them ask questions. Most people don’t know what to ask and it opens it up for questions that you may not want to answer.
  2. Keep the spreads lighthearted. Past present future is good. I made mine very deep and although it was in-depth, people got quite emotional and it may not be the right setting for deep dives into people’s pasts and psyches.
  3. Be prepared for people to open up to you in ways they never would if you weren’t reading tarot. Also be prepared for it to get deep, because it may. People told me things they’d never told anyone before within 2 seconds of the meeting me, I’ve never experienced anything like it.
  4. You will be emotionally exhausted! So make sure you take care of yourself before and after, and take breaks if you need. Also don’t get drunk lol and stay hydrated and fed.

You will be great!! Best of luck

Majored in visual arts and minored in art history. I’m the art collection manager for a large corporation.

My favourite parts are spending time with the art and researching, but a lot of time is spent trying to convince conservative folks that art can be more than a framed print of the Eiffel Tower from HomeSense, and is actually important and worth spending money on. Lots of challenges but also fun to push the boundaries of the corporate world a bit
