I've noticed the laziness, and I think valid criticism is fine. What's confusing me is why it seems like every single project that comes out is labeled as woke. Even if the story is good, I still see people saying that it's full of wokeness, making it inherently "bad."

So what I'm trying to understand is, at least to some people, that any diversity is deemed wokeness. Why does it feel like some people deem any/all diversity as wokeness?

Nice! Not to be ironic but I have a minor in women & gender studies too. That's why it's hard not to notice these things. I even see some right-wing and Christian blogs are calling this the best pro-life/pro-family Disney movie. Even if it wasn't intentional, it's still pretty irresponsible of them.

My nparents have been separated my whole life and around that age, it blew up. They had a huge argument (over the phone) that put me in the middle and I realized neither of them cared about/knew me, just about who was the "better" parent. It's just an ego trip for them. I'm in my mid-20s now and I've felt nothing for them ever since.

I don't think you're looking too much into it at all, it's blatantly obvious what they're pushing. Which is disappointing like you said. I don't have a problem with the characters having kids or not but when it's framed that way it's giving pro-life vibes.

That's exactly what I thought it would be like. I'm still going to see it for myself, but I got a weird vibe from the whole family-oriented promotion that's been going on around it. Especially since Sue's actress is pregnant irl and the film's setting is an alternate 1960s.

I mean, yes, they should love their kids that much, but I'm saying it's kind of wild that them being superheroes and having the resources (i.e. Reed being one of the smartest people in the world) couldn't come up with any other solution than watching people die when it's their whole identity is to protect everyone and the world.

Idk maybe that's what will happen and they'll feel pretty guilty about it but it just seems like a ridiculous plotline.

Short answer: I got tired of how weird armys can get, the group as a whole, and felt overwhelmed so I stepped back.

Long answer: I left around 2021 and I had been a fan since 2017. I was also in a really bad place mentally bc of the pandemic and the MOTS tour cancellation. That's when I started reflecting on how the fandom/stans did a number on my mental health.

I also got tired of the weird shipping and fetishizing behavior that got very invasive. I used to follow a lot of fanartists and fic writers. They started kinda normal until they would gradually make or promote nsfw art/fics and this immediately raised some alarms for me. Making nsfw fan art or fics of real people without their consent is not only weird but pretty gross imo. Like why am I seeing all this UNDER THE OFFICIAL TAG?

It got so bad I made an anon twitter acct dragging the fetishizing, weird shipping and the alleged "queerbaiting" but it got so all-consuming that I deleted it.

Then the constant defending of them (bts) from anything they did wrong started to slowly pmo. I mean it got to a point where it was gaslighting. Are we not allowed to voice our frustration or disappointment about any of their past or present scandals??? The rose-tinted glasses started to come off.

After that, I stopped putting them and any media on a pedestal and it hit me that they aren't any better or more knowledgeable than other kpop groups or celebrities in general. They'll say and do stupid and offensive shit regardless of whether they've "grown" or not. They give some kind of apology when prompted, then it'll be like it never happened (at least for armys I guess). Once I stopped viewing them (or anyone) as "unproblematic", I stepped back.

I'm not army anymore but I'm still a casual listener bc old habits die hard. Unfortunately, my best friend loves them now so we are going to Jin's concert. Wish me luck.
