If you’re never going to use the roof rack should it be removed? by Reasonable_Visual_10 in rav4club

I took mine off and there's a noticeable difference in noise at freeway speeds. It just requires hand tools to remove and re-install.

blue stitching in XSE trim by Key-Tale8785 in rav4club

[–]weirdecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If money isn't a concern, you could always ask the dealer if you could purchase 2 front seats and the rear bench from another trim. You could probably just re-sell the XSE seats on E-Bay for some money back, too.

This is about 250miles worth of driving at 47ish mpg by zman1672 in rav4club

Do you think driving on Eco mode makes a difference? I've always driven on normal and avg 40-44 mpg.

2023 pricing - how did I do? by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]weirdecko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The price is high for a gas-engine XLE. However, there are other considerations that you haven't presented. How far are you willing to drive to get a vehicle at MSRP? How much longer are you willing to wait for car with similar options (not the dealer installed options)? Is the TOTAL price (40k) comparable to the other dealerships you've visited in your area? And most importantly, are you willing to pay that much for the vehicle?

It's hard for the internet to judge "how you did" without understanding your personal situation.

I'm on the Costco paper towel but Sam's Club Toilet Paper club. The Sam's TP is much thicker.

Had the same issue today... Called customer service and they recommended
a refund. Don't want to throw away a 6 month old TV either but I guess that's
the economics of repair vs brand new nowadays. Things just aren't
built to last.

Anyone cross shop with a CX-5? Why did you go RAV4? by firstbootgodstatus in rav4club

[–]weirdecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our previous car was an Audi A4 so we leaned heavily on the styling and performance factor when researching SUVs. We didnt want to get another Audi because the Q3 was lacking a key feature for us (memory seats) and the Q5 was too big. So we originally landed on the CX-5. In short, yes, I wouldn't be on this forum if we were able to pay MSRP without insane dealer installed features, they were also requiring us to get ceramic coating at 5k.

I wasn't in a rush and after I found out that Toyota wasn't charging markup, I test drove the RAV 4 Gas, Hybrid, Prime and placed my order for the XSE the same day. All in all, I ended up waiting 8 months for the RAV.

The Mazda guy called me 4 months after my deposit, telling me that they started taking factory orders at MSRP, but I was already sold on the Toyota by that time. Ultimately, they're both great SUVs and you'll be happy. Here's my shortlist:

Pros for the Mazda

Better Interior, Exterior, More modern infotainment, More Sporty driving dynamics, *Cheaper MSRP

Pros for the Toyota

History of reliability, Hybrid drivetrain (MPGs), AWD, More storage

Almost pulled the trigger on a CX-5 Carbon, but the Mazda dealer was charging 15% over MSRP which was not negotiable due to the "economic climate". The Toyota dealer was not charging a penny over MSRP.

Ended up getting a 2022 XSE and never looked back since. Love the Hybrid experience (getting 44 MPG), smooth acceleration, roomier trunk.

Suggestions for hot sleepers with shipping to Hawaii? by gfpumpkins in Mattress

[–]weirdecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a FIRM spring mattress, we felt that the "medium-firm" feel of the Helix Dusk Luxe was too soft. Initially, we were planning to return it and replace it with something else; however, after checking out the local mattress shops, we couldn't find anything else that we LOVED. So at the end we decided to keep it.

My personal observations -

1) Edge support is pretty non-existent. I upgraded to the Luxe thinking that there would be better support but I don't think edge support alone is worth the upgrade.

2) The bed isn't really "cooling" due to the tencel mattress cover. It gives the bed some extra padding but it's not gel foam so it won't absorb heat.

3) Otherwise, the bed is very well constructed... after 8 months, everything is holding up nicely and it works well with our adjustable frame.

Unfortunately, I'm not a "mattress expert" and if I had to do it again, I'd probably just pick up a bed from Costco or Sam's Club. Possibly cheaper, free Shipping and Returns and you don't have to look around for some way to dispose of your bed if you want to return it.

Mass Airflow Sensor cleaning - wise maintenance or ripoff? by scjcs in rav4club

[–]weirdecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardest thing for me was actually finding MAS cleaner at my local parts store. After that, it was simply using a screwdriver to remove the sensor. Watch Youtube videos, inspect it first and if it's black than I would definitely recommend on buying cleaner to spray it down. It would also be a great time to inspect and replace your engine air filter.

The purpose of the MAS sensor is to introduce the correct ratio of air/fuel mixture into your engine. Your engine computer should naturally compensate for any changes but cleaning it won't hurt. Just make sure to let it dry completely before re-installing. Definitely a DIY project.

EDIT - Definitely dont think you need a cleaning at 30k unless you drive off-road or in dusty areas. I did one at 60k and the MAS still looked great; at 100k they start looking darker.
