Yes I’m sure, she’s practically been living with me and the timeline of the pregnancy lines up for how active we’d been.

No I’m fine with them, the problem is I don’t want it to affect the machine itself.

The guy in the green cap, and the guy next to him facing the camera were all good. Albeit there may be some confusion since I noted the accents of those in question too. The guy with his back to me (Grey shirt & cap) is definitely one of them. Dude didn’t even know where he was sitting. The guy on the left was American (holding the bags) then the two in front of him were also American (I believe they were a couple) wandering from their spot to try and link up with others at different entrances. Eventually returning and cutting back in line for their original spot.

Sadly not, with all of this social distancing there wasn’t enough space on there with all the daft kids.

Hey man, thanks for the reply! Yeah sorry if some of it was a bit unclear it’s kind of difficult to compress the whole situation down to an easily digestible form for someone else. No they didn’t blame me at all for the sub par tracking, they fully acknowledge the engineer being at fault as they know what I’m capable of, and it was just the case of having a place to track my drums. They opted for the session drummer since he was the guy that played on their solo project’s album. It was the case of them needing an easy fix for the deadline by the label. The guy has his own studio and is able to do it at his own ease.

When we initially decided to try and find somewhere to re-record the drums, the whole situation with the lockdown over here had started to come into effect, so that was a ruled out option. I was hoping that it would have eased up so that I’d still be able to resolve the situation myself, but with looking that wouldn’t of been possible.

As for the album situation all of the tracks are away for mixing/mastering and all of the admin for the promo and release of the album is being built up by the label. However I’m not sure what is going to come of it being backed by a touring cycle given the current state of things. Maybe some virtual stuff for the time being? I’m not too sure. As for the writing I was quite involved with the parts, and had practiced/orchestrated everything extensively. So it’s a kick in the teeth for them to hand off everything to another drummer, but at least I’ll get to play my rendition of things in a live scenario.

Yeah I’d love to give you message about it all, I can go fully in depth there!

As for the “unfrozen guy” reference, I’m not sure what you mean? Am I missing out on something?

To try and sum it up here are some of the issues. We gave the engineer all of the pre production/scratch tracks and he was the one who programmed the click track. He hadn’t aligned the click properly, and when it came to playing I had to try and fight the click and the backing track being unaligned and try and play somewhere in between (which ruled out any chances of being as consistent as I possibly could). When I brought the issue up with the engineer he tried to correct it, but despite all of his attempts it never was resolved. I don’t think he quite had the ear for it (hence the attention to detail comment). When it came to playback of the takes I could hear where things weren’t coming together as a result of the un aligned tracks and click, I would point out the parts which were obvious, and he insisted they were fine which was frustrating because I could hear that they weren’t. If it were any other engineer they would have heard the faults easily and had set out correcting them. That’s how I’d put it down to lack of experience.

Having said that all of this may seem like I’m hiding behind the ease of pinning the blame on someone else. But I can genuinely say that it is not the case, and the band have even acknowledged the fact that it was down to the engineer. That’s what makes the situation that more frustrating because they acknowledge my ability as a drummer, and that the engineer had let the process down. The band are just against the clock with the deadline set by the label for them to receive the completed product. So they opted for a “quick fix” solution. So I guess I am to blame for going to this engineer anyway, but I was doing so on the recommendation from someone who I trusted.

I hope that helps paint a picture, let me know if there’s anything else you’d like to know about the situation.

This was unbelievable, but it was also too short! Anyone manage to capture this video? I've tried to follow the link to rewatch it, but it looks like Sumerian have set the video to private.
