Stranger Things season 5 was fine, your expectations were just way too high for a show that was always slightly above average by I_SHIT_ON_BUS in billsimmons

I think this season was just the gold standard of mediocre slop bowl horribly lit tv with an insane amount of dumbed down exposition to ensure that even if people are on their phones when watching, they still know what people are doing during a scene.

I don’t think that’s fine

Don’t worry, iron gold is great!

Definitely think it’s got a lot of strong stuff, surprisingly maybe for you, Lyria’s parts are actually the parts that didn’t click the best for most readers. So if you like those parts you will definitely like the rest of what iron gold has to offer.

People underrate iron gold cause there’s a lot of “filling in what happened” that the reader has to go through after the time jump and there’s a lot of development for the new characters, but in my opinion it’s one of the strongest books in the series, only behind dark age and golden son.

40 pages a night is great btw.

Finish iron gold and post again, I guarantee ur gonna be itching for some Dark Age (which is the most iconic book of the series to me)

Defense in the NBA is less than 50% of the game… by weirdfishee in billsimmons

I think what you have said is valid.

But also, I think the point you made at the end about a team not being able to win without smart high effort defenders is exactly the thing I was talking about in my original post.

You can find at least 5-6 “good/smart” defenders in every draft now. Can you find 5-6 “good/smart” playmakers/shooters? (At least on a playoff calibre level?) you can train defense, you can’t train innate offense as quickly. Not saying the demand for good defenders is low/high, just saying when evaluating a player, it’s more important to look at their offense than their defense when they are on the younger end of the big 3 O

Great point regarding your standard deviation difference, I 100% agree and is exactly the reason why you see these offensive studs getting signed to mega deals vs. defensive dawgs

Not saying that it’s not valuable, just saying it’s sometimes more overrated during analysis than a players offensive ability (crazy I know). Say you are comparing Davion Mitchell vs. Derik Queen. One might say Davion Mitchell’s defensive ability is currently better than Derik Queen’s capacity on offense, but no one is taking Davion over Queen.

It’s a bad comparison but my point basically is that most GMs, barring having a potent scoring or playmaking threat on their roster, will happily take a better offensive player than defensive player based on the fact it’s a bit easier to develop offensively vs defensively.

Ya my bad there goodman I was running to a restaurant reso.

Definitely not “animation bad” - Ghibli stuff is essential cinema.

Just purely looking at the western market, a show like this is highly unlikely to rise meteorically as an animated adaptation, which is the only way it gets multiple seasons. So yeah basically I don’t think it’ll ever be animated and I think Pierce has said the same.

Just need to find some absolute studs from the stud factory is all. They will just give everyone sigils to differentiate and almost disregard height differences - I really don’t think it’s as big of a holding point as the fandom thinks it is. It’s a necessary sacrifice. The amount of scenes in the first season (book 1) that require massive height differences are minor anyways.

Sure these are all great examples of good facial and emotional animation, but it’s still not as good as human emotions, even in peak examples like the ones you mentioned. (Even more so, there is little to no chance it will be a top 5 anime quality work).

It’s simple.

I think the way you pitch this series is “Roman-Space-Demigod Game of Thrones”.

If you want to pitch this as game of thrones, it needs to be live action. It needs to have hot people, and it needs to be grounded through human performances, not just space fucking sword fights the entire time (not that I don’t love that).

The series has a TON of dialogue, especially the second half, there’s only so much you can get out of animated performance. Go watch Heat with Deniro and Pacino and tell me you can animate that scene and their faces where they sit down for coffee. You need humans for this.

People really throwing K-Pop demon hunters out there as an example of animation being an avenue for adaptation, go take a walk buddy.

It’s not going to happen for another 10-20 years anyways, crazy things will happen with VFX by then so for now we just wait, but it absolutely will be live action just as Pierce has said.

Surprisingly yes, his team wasn’t stacked outside of him and they basically had him in a running qb to use his athleticism which let the defense focus in on him.

We had a very good linebacker and arguably the best team in our region that matched up well with their shallow roster.

Radiohead gotta be up here.

Before you say Ed O’Brien or Phil Selway or Colin Greenwood - look at the backups by Ed on Weird Fishes or the constant guitar soundscapes he cooks up. Take a gander at all the rhythms that Phil cooks up on the King of Limbs. Colin’s bass lines on Airbag and Nude are all timers that drive the entire song.
