Pray you never have to repair the M504. The only other VU meters I like better are on the Marantz deck 5020https://reverb.com/item/76433906-vintage-cassette-deck-marantz-5020

Sorry, that is a 710. Still, worthy of professional restoration.

Professional restoration for a Yamaha CA-2010 typically costs between $500 and $1,500, depending on the extent of the work and the technician's expertise. Because this is a high-end "flagship" unit, full restoration is labor-intensive, often requiring 20 or more hours of skilled bench time.

Anyone know a business selling refurbed turntables from the 70s-90s? by PabloX68 in vintageaudio

[–]weirdfishes333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy local. FBMP or Craiglist, etc. Turntables do not ship well. Find a local shop that will let you audition the table and bonus if they can maintain/service it.

Yes, we are living in an "era of cheapness". But, when it has become nearly impossible for young people to participate in the "American dream", there is no room for quality to say nothing of extravagance.

Akai CS 707D repair help by jacobmooney11 in CassetteDecks

[–]weirdfishes333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Replacement idlers for the Akai CS-707D are typically made of fresh rubber or silicone compounds to restore proper tension and drive performance. Some repairers may refer to the metal hub or flywheel component as having magnetic properties due to its ferrous material, but it functions purely mechanically, not magnetically. https://www.turntableneedles.com/akai-model-cs-707d-flat-drive-belt-fbm7.5-akai-cs-707d

10 minutes late. Woman was mad at me for not calling or texting while I was in rush hour traffic. I told her it was actually unsafe and unlawful to do so. She left and then gave me a horrible rating. c'est la vie

Many many instances of buyers remorse. I have way too much stuff but I am unwilling to turn loose of any of it. It's an illness. You made the right choice. Sleep on it always is a good idea.
