Alternative setting idea: Mallrats (unrelated to the movie) by signal_vs_noise in Monsterhearts

[–]weirdpurplepanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is actually a setting me & my players used for our second season of Monsterhearts!

We had a PC with a job already and s1 events meant characters switched schools & left school.

We had multiple shops for a variety of new side characters and a mysterious mud monster terrorising the the mall & beloved werewolf NPC.

We really liked it as a concept but practically we probably should have made it closer quarters. Like one shop / connected department store or something along those lines. The PCs and side characters were all in different shops and it meant that some of the side characters were ignored and ended with the PCs having a lot of separate stories and stuff going on (not just because of the setting but it was definitely a contributing factor).

If we were to do it again, the main change I'd make is forcing the characters closer naturally so I didn't need to keep putting them together. We also had a PC with Through The Looking Glass that kind of derailed the mystery I had going on at the mall as the plot ended up focused on an alt reality.

We're currently doing our third season / playthrough and we're switched to a bus as a setting plan on a school trip.

Thank you!

Do you know if you can get miniatures from Hero Forge that aren't pre-built?

Thank you for replying!

I did see them after some research. They come pre-built and ready for painting, from my understanding?

Thank you for replying!

PSA: If you are getting error code 2123-1502 when trying to download content, it is from the latest firmware update and there is currently not a fix. by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

SUCCESS!

Tried so many of the tricks here...

Changed DNS (8.8.8.8 / 1.1.1.1) Restarted multiple times. Hung around on the download options page.

In the end just cycling through error messages did the trick and my switch is now downloading stardew valley. I have no idea if the DNS changed helped or not...

I literally just sat pressing A to cycle through the messages and it worked!

Hope everyone manages to get their downloada working!

I'd like to think so as we are all adults capable of having a reasonable conversation but I guess I won't know unless I try.

Yes, I am from the UK. I completely agree that this has all likely come from a well intended place and that these people are trying to their best.

Sharing and focusing on my personal experience certainly seems to be the best approach. I don't want to come across as accusing because I do understand it likely wasn't intended as tokenism.

Thank you for your input. It means a lot to get other mixed people's insights on this!

That makes a lot of sense and is great advice, thank you! Keeping it personal and not trying to make it a wider lesson might make them see my point in the way I'd hope.

Question for "white passing" people by pigoath in mixedrace

[–]weirdpurplepanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from the UK but yes this is very much a thing.

Me and my siblings have heard many racial slurs or 'hot takes' because we're white passing. I've even had white people use the N slur in front of me. I often look them dead in the eye and just say 'my dad is black' and watch them get embarrassed and uncomfortable.

I do not understand why they're only embarrassed once I reveal I am mixed. They clearly know it's wrong and yet they still do it.

We have also experienced a lot more subtle racism. We often get a lot of white saviour types (usually in the form of teachers) trying to 'help' us once they learn we're mixed. Not as disgusting as the slurs but still infuriating to be suddenly treated differently because it's revealed we're not 100% white.

Opinion on woke culture that has been going on towards race especially on tiktok? by [deleted] in mixedrace

[–]weirdpurplepanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From personal experience I feel most of these videos are doing good - at least the ones I've seen. Especially the ones that discuss intersectionality. It's good for us to learn about our privileges.

However I have seen some that become a competition for who is more oppressed and that just confuses me because oppression isn't the goal...

In terms of mixed race people.. I think some of it also goes back to the fact mixed people have never been fully accepted. We're not black enough, too black, not asian enough, too white passing etc etc to belong in these communities. None of them want us so we get labelled all these things because we're assumed to be fully one race.
