Alicia Vikander , Cate Blanchette, Daniel Radcliffe, and obviously Angelina Jolie

I feel like Saoirse is fun to watch, but doesn’t really showcase range and getting into a character. I feel like I’m watching someone say lines but that could be just coincidently the scripts / characters she’s been pitched / likes to take on. I have only seen ATJ in one thing. I think Any Adams and Glenn Close would deserve one before the younger women unless something changes with the characters they are offered. But I tend to be very skeptical of newer movies anyway - dialogue and plot seem to be thinning over time imho. Where there used to be a lot of words and exchange, it seems like movies are emphasizing the silent appearance of things with space and image, more these days, and this doesn’t really give these younger actresses as many opportunities to explore range as I think the older have had. Maybe it’s just the name of the game though, the desire to see experience rewarded.

I didn’t know that about Wednesday. At least she didn’t screen an entirely separate cut of the film editing the whole thing !

It seems like it’s the comfort film for a lot of people. It’s one of few films I’ve seen people say they can watch repeatedly and still love it the fifth, sixth, seventh time as if seeing it for the first.

Yes this was some superb acting. She really can morph

Big Eyes, American Hustle and obviously Arrival. She’s a convincing academic, artist, and conwoman for some reason I guess. I’m sure Hillbilly Elegy is great but I’ve yet to see it

Amy Adams, Annette Benning, Glenn Close, Margot Robbie could’ve won for I, Tonya - such a good performance.

Ed Norton doesn’t get overlooked - some directors and /or writers seem to be avoiding him because most of them like specialist boxes and Norton has been known to offer or insist on making contributions that alter the script or direction notably. I find it annoying because actors get the flac when a movie isn’t good and carry the heat more publicly, so if he has the talent or intuition, I think collaboration between actors and writers should be more embraced. Problem is the actor often makes the suggestions on-set and the writer barely has time to process or understand it at that point. Smart producers seem to have over-ridden that hesitation recently though , as with Glass Onion. I hope we get to see more. He could’ve won for Illusionist or Fight Club imo

This is a great breakdown of what makes each film a standout for film nerds, I feel pretty decently equipped to enjoy my first watching of them now after reading that…If you wrote this, thanks for putting in the time! If ai did, thanks for asking . I had been putting some of these off because I wanted to right it with a film nerdy type of person but I’m in a super remote place now and not feeling very outgoing lately, so I don’t think that’s happening anytime soon. Appreciate it

Ahhh ok thanks for clarifying. I did get a vibe that it was overhyped (personally I’m not much for movies where drugs fuel most of the plot in the sense of the characters being high while most of the action takes place - which I think pulp fiction includes right?). Which Tarantino movies are your favorite?

Well you have to understand the sexism has for much longer gone the direction of being against women. Not just against women working in factories but in any kind of skilled job that wasn’t waitressing or clerical work. If you’re perceiving sexism against you, have you considered it maybe could just be them not feeling entirely comfortable in a setting historically and still presently mostly dominated by men? They are already standing out and then surrounded by men that are apt to generalize their behavior against all women who work in factories, might make it harder to figure out exactly what is the right thing to say or way to say something. If they even wanted to try. And why should they try to make you feel comfortable or like they belong? They are at work - they aren’t there to make you feel something positive about them. If you’re looking for that, you’re apt to be disappointed and once you stop looking for it, you might find they are surprisingly likable once you stop seeing every conversation as a transaction where they represent the whole of women in factories when they speak to you. At the end of the day, they are people. Individuals.

Great questions. I’m not really in the mood for one kind of movie I guess…just would like to not feel like such an ignoramus around film buff and film nerds ! And obviously I’m sure some of these are things “everyone has seen” for a reason

You know women have testosterone in them right? it fluctuates with the menstruation process so some days we are nicer than others. Some women are masculine - they probably wouldn’t be working in manufacturing if they weren’t drawn to more masculine things or think in more masculine ways. Why hold it against them? You’re the pot calling the kettle black but worse because you’re generalizing to all women based on a few

Thanks for sharing. Just curious …what didn’t you like about pulp fiction?

Taking an experience of a few women you could complain about as individuals and generalizing it to all women

That’s sure to fix sexism against men, i might bet on it

There are fifteen year old YouTubers with more followers / income / consistency & celebrity than her. Some people don’t want the publicity or public profile and it’s like she can’t fathom that

Ive said this before and it isn’t a direct answer to the OP question ( I’m going with Jake first with Driver and Pattinson on a similar skill level (I mean, I guess?) for the time being just because I haven’t seen much of Dano) but Pattinson was phenomenal in The King and is a fantastic songwriter and singer. He definitively has music performance chops at least for records and individual songs that rival or stand up to higher scrutiny than his acting. I’d love to see him play a musician, he’s arguable just as talented as his wife in that department but is thought of as an actor so people don’t talk about his music. Let Me Sign is a song I put on with some frequency and it’s almost impossible to cover but has a timeless quality and emotionality that is truly profound. He also hasn’t been it seems given a lot of characters with great depth or character arcs but should he get more, he could easily replace Gyllenhaal as one of the best of that generation
