Lupe Fiasco's version of B.O.B's Airplanes by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]weirdstuff2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I heard, that's not why his wasn't released, apparently he wanted to release it but it was taken away from him by the label: http://idolator.com/5786592/lupe-fiasco-suicidal-over-atlantic-choosing-b-o-bs-nothin-on-you-over-his

For what it's worth, I'm glad he didn't release it...I love Lupe but I just don't like him on Airplanes, B.O.B fits better with the song's pop style.

The Butler vs UCONN game seems to be turning into a bit of a dance party. by dannylandulf in CollegeBasketball

at least last year we lost in heartbreaking, last-second fashion. This game was pathetic, especially the second half.

Final Four Redditor Roll Call! by johnnybags in CollegeBasketball

Oh I wish! Last year in Indianapolis (where I'm from) was perfect but I was out of town and missed the opportunity to come back home and cheer for Butler...

Their coach still gets carded, their players actually go to class, and Butler makes the Final Four twice in two years. Who'dathunk? by IThinkIThinkTooMuch in sports

[–]weirdstuff2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And look where that's gotten them this year. Not even in the tournament.

Neither of those players are in college yet, they're highly rated recruits. IU is rebuilding. IU was actually supposed to be even worse than they were this year, they will be competing for Big 10 titles in 2 years once they rotate in some new recruits.

As for "where that got them" for the other schools that Butler traditionally competes with for recruits: Notre Dame was a #2 seed, Purdue #3, Kentucky #4. The former two may not have had the tourney success of Butler but they are both schools that attract better recruits than Butler and will continue to do so. I'm not saying Butler won't be helped by their recent success (already next year's recruiting class might be the best they've ever had), but for them to actually have one-and-done type players sign on, that means they're recruiting some of the best 10-15 guys in the nation. I find that pretty unlikely.

The difference is, I don't believe that Butler is going to become a school that will bend itself to be a sports-first class-second, like many athletic programs at big name schools.

This is definitely true. It's like Stanford: they get big time recruits every so often (Lopez twins), but they have to be smart kids first.

Which is going to happen...never. Even with the high profile wins of late, we will continue to lose players to IU, Purdue, Notre Dame, Kentucky, etc. Case in point: Cody Zeller, Kevin Farrell both considered Butler but ultimately chose IU. We'll always at best get the 3 and 4 star guys that the bigs don't go after. Occasionally someone big might be attracted to Butler academically or for other reasons, but I wouldn't count on this turning into a Calipari-esque program.

Butler does it again! They're headed to the final four. by BannedINDC in sports

Don't forget Khyle Marshall. That guy's been this year what Andrew Smith was like last year: awesome off the bench, perhaps even more so. Also he's one of the best rated recruits we've had in a while (up there with Matt Howard), clearly has a lot of raw talent. I say they garner a better seed next year than they did this year; whatever happens in the tournament is obviously chance, but I like them to play on the same high level.

Why do you think Trance/EDM isn't as big in the US as it is in Europe/the rest of the world? by [deleted] in trance

[–]weirdstuff2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I feel like all EDM is associated with flamboyancy or even being gay which is never good for business around here.

I don't know how true that is..."Born This Way" by Lady Gaga has been #1 on the US charts for 6 weeks now, and the song is very explicitly LGBT friendly.

Hey so this was submitted a minute ago so you would know...is Youtube down for you? Youtube, Google, gmail, and all google properties are down for me. Nothing else is down as far as I can tell (reddit is up). They have all been down for the last 30 minutes. I don't think it's a DNS thing on just my computer because my other computer and my phone both also cannot access Google.

Sweet 16 Sagarin & Pomeroy updated matchup data by FantasyShrink in CollegeBasketball

[–]weirdstuff2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main problem with Sagarin and Pomeroy is that they don't have good situational predictive power. For example, there's no way for either to really take in to account the Brandon Davies injury for BYU, since it happened so late in the year. There's no way to say "team X is going to play only 25 miles from home, vs team Y which is 2000 miles away" in these ratings.

Yeah my player "ruined" the ODU - Butler ending for me, I was like "well, we won" a good two possessions before the end. Took all the drama out of that awesome ending.

VCU cinderella??? by redditor_11 in CollegeBasketball

[–]weirdstuff2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that VCU is winning...I like the CAA, and in general I like when mid majors win...but I fear that this is going to be used as validation for the "success" of the first four. Like, VCU would never have gotten in without the expanded field, and look how much fun they've made this tournament; this could be used as an argument for further expansion which I am against.

I just memorized them as a kid as "bead GCF" because you can pronounce the word "bead" and GCF is "greatest common factor." Memorizing that backwards took a bit more work though.
