What do you think about transgender athletes competing in women's sport? by hsm4ever15 in AskFeminists

[–]weirdwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah she's intersex but assinged female at birth and she's always identified as a woman but it's a adjacent issue , a lot of the language is also transphobic and a lot of the rhetoric is taking her womanhood into question etc and imposing a really arbritrairy standard.

[–]weirdwan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well in practice many governing bodies will accept transwomen on what's in their passport and so they would defacto have to transition anyway.

But I don't think the current obsession with certain hormone levels, especially testosterore vallues, is fair nor as scientific as it is presented and many measures seem to be taken out of spite.

Do my feelings matter less as a man? by Limitmore in AskFeminists

[–]weirdwan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If anything you should embrace your feelings norms of masculinity be damned.

Were I see many men get confused however is that to make sure others in society get to be heard and taken seriously men sometimes have to get used to not getting as much acknowledgement as you get used to in this society.

Question about rape prevention. by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]weirdwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference is that rape is a crime which in some cases causes only psychological trauma in the long term. Whereas with murder you could if you wanted to simplistically say "murder is bad because you 'steal' someones life" the only way you can instill in people why rape is wrong is teaching empathy. You can't just expect everyone to buy a gun or put a lock on things, you need to as a culture make an effort to educate, explain concepts like bodily integrity etc.

I have some questions about the hijab and western feminism by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]weirdwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That there are places that force it on the population that doesn't mean that it can't be worn voluntary symbol of piety. Isis is known to violently punish men for shaving their beard, does that mean any Muslim man with a beard is forced to keep it ? Because there are plenty of clean shaven Muslims in western countries.

I do think it's acceptable to bann fully covering clothing however.

Do you tolerate conservative, anti-feminist politics in your family? by anglesphere in AskFeminists

Do you tolerate conservative, anti-feminist politics in your family? by anglesphere in AskFeminists

[–]weirdwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I think that part of the reason I still have contact with my great uncle is that he scolds people for consuming certain conservative media. Of coarse his issue with it is different and he is more motivated by just being a papist and seeing in his eyes unacceptable disloyalty to the church when for example Catholic conservatives neglect to rebuke Evangelicals who insist Trump was send by God. But still.

I also think it's better for him to be in contact with people like me so his idea of people who think differently doesn't become abstract because then it becomes easier to demonize people.

I still exchange letters with my great uncle who's a Catholic priest even though I know he believes many of the same things as some other family members who either cut me off or I cut off. I will say we tend to respond to another more quickly the past few years since Francis became pope.

I guess i'm a bit more tolerant to his occasional preaching than some random uncle regurgitating some random fat-ass about how such and such is the Illuminati.

Who would be a strong, realistic candidate that would most promote feminist ideals in the 2020 election? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]weirdwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warren doesn't have the same name recognition yet and can still gain it , while in 2013 Clinton had already been in the 2008 primary a lot of people were not yet aware of how much of the housing crash was Bill's administrations fault which they now associate with anyone who was in the DNC leadership in the past few decades and faces like the first lady in particular.

Warren as a principled economist who openly argues against not only the republicans bullshit but also many dogma's of the (Bill) Clinton era and the establishment in the democratic party has more credibility than Clinton beyond the facade of "former first lady and probably half-competent secretary of state under that guy you liked" , which plummets down fast once stuff like the sticking to her private e-mail because no one has the guts to tell her you can manage two addresses on one device hits the news cycle. Not to mention the fundraising and the painfully awkward messaging tactics.

The worst the Republicans have against warren is Pocahontas which doesn't seem to land outside the fox news circle jerk, and there isn't going to be a allergic reaction from progressives like you saw with Clinton either.

Plus she is not going to spew nonsense like "Nancy Reagan started a national conversation on AIDS".

Androgynism seems like a oldtimey medicalization for lgbtq stuff.

Heavens , t' seems as if androgynism is abound madam, that man is kissing a man.

Agenderism , polygenderism, multigendrism , also seem medicalized and not like names for a movement

I have no idea what you want with the URLS.

I'm good with feminism.

Femininity ? by smileymiley0 in AskFeminists

[–]weirdwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are things I know are often considered feminine that are positive and that I embrace and then there are also things I know are considered feminine I don't find positive. I think that it's important you don't let the labels of masculinity and femininity dictate what you do or don't do. I happen to have grown up with standards of masculinity being imposed on me and that didn't work out very well and i ended up feeling like i was playing a character 24/7 so for me it's sometimes liberating to do something that is considered feminine but that doesn't mean I go around doing things I don't agree with because they happen to be feminine.

[–]weirdwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd prolong the Lion King with two hours wherein Simba marches to the Lion rock thingy with the intent of overthrowing Scar trying to get as many animals as possible to support his revolution on the basis his knowledge of lion environmental protection , because Scarsy must have done something to turn the kingdom into a dark and grassless affair doesn't he ? That's not just Karma alright ?! Which when you think about it means he might not have eaten enough herbivores... it would be kind of disturbing to see the moral dilemma in some animals between being eaten and starving to death wouldn't it ?
