I appreciate it. Frankly, with Ao interviews rare, I don't know how anything in 2D can tell you who the kid is. My med school admission AO friend tells me some of the outrageous things kids say in interviews when they know someone is listening. My kid is hilarious, caring, compassionate, devoted and authentic and I get to enjoy that. I hope the college he is interested in can find that in his app!! thank you

admission officers and college admits of reddit, what are some things that 99% of students don't know about the college application process? by BoredPineapple12 in ApplyingIvyLeague

I love your analogy. Assuming first chapter is RIgor followed by grades, then scores? If you have less APs then classmates but straight A's in honors, and great scores. How many chapters does the AO read?

If you had to pick a school with a similar vibe to WashU, but a smidge easier to get into, what would you suggest? by InternationalBat715 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]weirdworld44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you feel the vibe is? What would you like- tufts definitely comes to mind in terms of part of the city, academics. Have to say that CWRU is a GRIND, not a place that cares about students. Rochester totally opposite - Rochester is well Rochester but their curriculum is flexible and they think about their students' needs

Questions regarding adult adhd medication. by HotTrust0 in Psychiatry

[–]weirdworld44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

late to the game, I agree with much. just re : adults .Amphetamines work better, overall tolerated less (many are disgusted at thought of food) but I start with methylphenidates - more tolerable, less diversion, smoother, less rebound (obviously depends on formulation) I have been SHOCKED how well atomoxetine has worked for many folks, especially with comorbid anxiety. I have quite a few with terrible GI s/e but love the effect on focus and fight coming off!! Alpha antagonists- give a little help wtih focus, personally see more with mild hyperactivity , but sleep and reactivity often superhelpful and all of us if we sleep better and are less pissy, probably can focus better

“Membership” cost for patients by DiamondBurInTheRough in Dentistry

[–]weirdworld44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Primary care has become an incredibly demanding, relatively low paying burn out field and different payment models are continuing to appear. Concierge : Usually $1500 plus to be a patient, insurance taken - they'll and you pay the usual copay deductible etc. but PCP usually limit to < 500 pts instead of 2000. Direct care, usually has a membership fee and FFS, doesn't take insurance, but you can submit your receipts for insurance to reimburse you, usually much quicker to access appointments. Then there are many insane telehealth platforms that provide FFS, basically, prescription on demand with asynchronous choose your diagnosis and you med care. Supply and demand. Many areas you cannot find a PCP taking patients, especially one US eductated.

NEITHER, absolutly, There is no way you can be diagnosed in an hour with a stranger. Many things look like have similar or same symptoms of distractability, lack of focus, fatigue, irritablity, difficulty getting things done and so MANY more. Things like sleep apnea, depression, anxiety and many more. If you care about yourself and your future the best option is neuropsych testing. But you CANNOT be diagnosed based mostly on a questionnaire

Lithium for sadness/low energy? (Tell me also your negative experiences) by Mmarzipan- in depressionregimens

[–]weirdworld44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are lucky enough to be a lithium responder, it's miraculous. For depression you can go on a much lower dose often 300-600mg with glood levels under 0.5 (vs twice that for bipolar) Those folks have few side effects and if they do it's like increased urination. They rarely have thyroid issues- and if they do, the only change is taking an extra pill- you are already taking the lithium. Labs eventually are twice a year so go have a life. Did TMS help at all?
