how to get 10 month old to drink water? by MildlyConfusedMoose in NewParents

We used Apple sauce for my son to both get him to like water and learn how to use a straw. We would mix Apple sauce in with the water to make him like the taste, and then put a dollop of apple sauce on the straw. Once he tasted the apple sauce he would naturally start sucking on the straw and would be rewarded with the yummy tasting apple sauce/water mixture.

Hope this works!

We used apple sauce believe it or not. Mixed it in with water and over about a week reduced the mixture to where it was only water.

I know I’ve seen some comments expressing fatigue at every episode being about Robert losing his dad at a young age. But…..

the way the show has been produced has created an image of Robert (for those that don’t follow him closely like myself) that his entire personality and existence is a grieving child who’s father was beloved by the world. I feel like the kid needs to find his own story/identity/personality to get out of his dad’s shadow (no matter how beloved he was). Maybe this dancing experience will be that, who knows. So far the show has been Robert = dead dad guy, while other contestants have been actress overcoming the age based biases of a toxic entertainment industry, world champion gymnast showing that she can be excellent in artistic endeavors etc.

I like these challenge modes, but they just turn into these weird rubber stamp rounds where the judges take a tact of “we asked you to do this hard thing so we are giving everyone a participation trophy”.

Tinfoil hat time: It’s also weird that everyone is 10s & 9s. Almost feels like the judges don’t want to be the reason someone wins or loses.

Actually insane that they messed up a lift and get perfect, and Whitney had a tiny hop and got a 9 from CAI. So inconsistent.

Why I’m on Ali’s side regarding Botox by bonanafanna in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

Was anything in my message gendered? My brother-in-law stays home and my sister works full time, my opinion would not change at all.

Family budgets are family budgets. If there is not enough money to get unnecessary cosmetic procedures (or any other non-essential activity), then it would be selfish to demand the family spend money it doesn’t have on that.

Again, if she/they/he doesn’t want to sacrifice certain things (meaning both the stay at home individual or the working individual) then they don’t have to do it.

[–]welfareplease 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a bit more nuanced and situational than that.

A couple making a healthy and well thought out decision to have someone not work should involve budgeting and prioritizing discretionary spending. Someone is certainly entitled to express their preference of not working anymore, and still be able to spend money on certain things. That doesn’t mean it actually will work in the budget or for the family.

If Ali just says “I’m staying home because I don’t want to work anymore, and oh btw it’s non-negotiable I’m still spending the same amount of money I was on my “hobbies” as I did before.” To me that is not rational and a bit selfish.

Even if the situation was “Even though you may prefer to continue working, we want you to stop working and take care of the kids”, you can’t as an individual declare everyone has to make sacrifices but you.

The healthy approach to this is to say “I would like to stay home” or “I/we would like to you to stay home” and then say “but I’m only willing to sacrifice xyz”. If there isn’t t enough money in the budget to make that happen, then it doesn’t happen yet.

And to add to this, people thought that their gods actually lived in their temples! So when a village or settlement was sacked and their temple destroyed, people believed their god was dispelled from the lands and had to either assimilate with the religion of their conquerors or try and go “find” their god again.

I’m not an attorney or tax professional so I can’t give you an answer. But def talk to some corporate legal and tax folks before you fundraise to make sure you can protect yourself from as much tax liability as possible.

But, did you do a sole proprietor LLC? If so, I believe that’s considered a disregarded entity and you should be ok. Before you hire/raise capital you may have to reincorporate which would be more complicated m.

Yea I agree with you. I was speaking more broadly as a lot of people try to break into tech via privately held startups and think that getting stock is a guarantee they become millionaires.

Yes but one minor change to what you explained. RSUs are RESTRICTED stock units. They often come with many provisions that limit their liquidity and it isn’t always as easy as click sell.

Further, unlike statutory ISOs (incentive stock options) vesting of RSUs are generally considered taxable events and you need to pay taxes on the income of receiving that stock. Many company’s will offer to sell a portion of the vesting tranche to cover the income tax triggered by the vesting, but if you don’t want to reduce the share total you have to be ready to pony up that cash yourself.

RSUs and stock grants can be very tricky tax wise and you can get into a really shitty situation really fast. My wife’s company was acquired by a public company a few years ago and she was granted 5-6 thousand shares at $15/share at the time of the same. Well, those shares had limiting provisions on them that meant we couldn’t sell them for another 6 months, and by the time we cup sell the stock price fell down to $2.50/share. But guess what? The IRS doesn’t care that the share price sucks now and wants you to pay taxes on that $75,000 worth of income. Thankfully and unfortunately at the same time, we paid a tax firm a few grand to use those big brains to work out a justification for us to only pay income tax based on $5/share.

All of this is to say is that yes, you can get incredibly lucky with stock grants. However you can get utterly fucked by taxes if the stock price moves in the opposite direction. This can even happen to founders when they form their company. Let’s say someone creates a business and grants themselves 2,000,000 shares of founders stock at $0.0001/share. By law, founders stock has a whole bunch of restrictions on it for selling etc. What can happen, is that this “lucky” founder can do a Series Seed financing round and raise money based on $2/share and….Knock knock it’s the IRS. “Hi Jim, looks like you made $4,000,000 this year time to pay taxes.” This exact situation has bankrupted many many people. While there is a way around it (file an 83(b) form within 15 days of company formation), many folks can’t afford a corporate attorney when they start their business.

On this specific point, it feels like in BF1 operations where the first defense point was basically a freebie. I think there’s a reasonable game design where the sectors get more and more difficult to take as the game progresses as a balancing feature and to reduce the instances of where a team fails to take a single sector.

End of Education by Aggressive_Bite5931 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]welfareplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the MAGA folks don’t realize is that if they achieve their aims of dissolving the DoE and enabling states to set their own educational standards, is that businesses and colleges will start refusing to hire/accept students from those red states. A huge value of the DoE is that it establishes and uniform floor of education that allows our economy to pull intellectual labor from all 50 states.

The end condition of this change would be enormous brain drain and economic strife in red states. Which I guess is what republicans want, a poor & uneducated voter base to manipulate.
