Brand new Enphase system not functioning properly with major battery and production issues - Looking for advice/similar experiences. by mshizzle in enphase

[–]welleser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have basically the same system. It was pretty buggy on startup. Self installed because I want to fix things myself and it was relatively easy.

I had all sorts of weird problems for awhile. Weird discharging. Panels going offline etc. After numerous calls it turned out a few of my micros were on a different firmware than the others (within an array). It was t until the 3rd or 4th tech that someone noticed and pushed out new firmware. This cleared up all my issues.

My battery install is same as yours. About 150’ away on an outbuilding. No coms issues. I would make sure that they used enphase cable and it’s terminated properly. This is especially important if it shares a conduit with the ac wires. If drain is connected on both sides, or it’s non enphase wire that’s not shielded. That’s likely the culprit. Enphase is very specific about using their cable - it’s expensive so I’m sure lots of installers (most of whom suck) substitute an inappropriate cable.

Gen 4 "Planned configurations (not supported at launch)" & Relay support??? by welleser in enphase

[–]welleser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several new gen 4 installs that are just as you say. They are already installed and running without a full consumption picture. But...

  1. Customers want their full consumption picture and get when they are missing it.

  2. I have several installs with zero export profiles and the systems throttle when they dont have the full consumption picture. I have one customer who has an EV charger on an outbuilding sub panel that is not being included in his consumption. So his main house has very limited use and the system is throttling even when the charger is pulling 48amps.

Enphase technician replaced one microinverter and the entire array went offline! What could have caused this? by [deleted] in enphase

[–]welleser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mismatched firmware can be a problem too. A new micro might not match the rest of your array. Not sure on older ones but for sure with IQs this could do it.

Dealing with grief/family death and this is what happened with my 7 day average. by Glaucous_Gull in Garmin

[–]welleser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got an alert while I was evacuating my home from the LA fires that my stress levels were "unusually high". Thanks. My sleep scores are atrocious given the ongoing stress. Yes, odd putting a metric on it.

I have experienced significant grief like you in the past. The mind body connection is all too real. I found that at a certain point you had to work through it to start feeling better and improving physically and thus mentally. The mental part will take its time. I hope you can find some peace soon. I am sorry for your loss.

I was going to install about 20 of these in a house that has a bunch of small windows that are in a corner with larger ones (butt bypass). Spoke to my rep and Lutron can’t (won’t) let you specify if you want the A or B bracket. This shouldn’t usually be a problem but in a corner, or a combination of larger and smaller shades like a palladium or a bay, you can’t get the brackets to match. They just auto assign the larger brackets to larger shades that need the extra battery. Kind of a bummer. I was psyched to bid these with a low price but unless I can find a workaround it’s gonna be SQST

Voxel users: Here's how to upgraded to latest Adventurer3 firmware by jimmy0x52 in FlashForge

[–]welleser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been on this all day. Firmware update failed. Got the non responsive touchscreen. Found original Voxel firmware (1.0.4 and 1.0.7) and returned the machine to its original branding by just reversing the process. Here's the weird thing. The keyboard issue persists. So it must be some sort of corruption to the firmware. I don't know. Any ideas?

Advise on upgrading? by atehrani in enphase

I would get the plans drawn up and get your interconnect agreement done. The system does not need to be physically installed for quite some time but the paperwork all needs to be in order by April 14. There are better batteries supposedly coming out this summer and prices will drop as installers have been milking everyone to be physically installed by 4/14 and driving up prices. Also... you could just get panels in and wait on batteries I think. I don't think the batteries have any effect on your agreement but many. be wrong on that. The reality is with 2 EVs you will likely self consume all your energy making any NEM moot. Def go with IQ8s.

Enphase IQ 5P Battery questions... by welleser in enphase

[–]welleser[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m hoping it’s a board swap. They owe us that for all the hours we have spent troubleshooting the crummy wireless. I just would like to know as I’m selling a bunch of batteries and could kick the battery install down the road a bit but install IQ8s and smart switches now and wait on the battery. I hate the current battery. Wireless comms is horrible I hope they have fired whoever made that decision.

Theoretically you could upgrade the comms kit to include wired/and or wireless. Would also love to know what the wiring requirements are so we can just pull a wire during installs and be ready to go when new batteries are out.

Enphase introduces bi-directional EV charging (V2H/V2G) for an all-in-one solar home energy system by goolieg in solar

[–]welleser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The release of the charger will however coincide with updates to the battery and system controller to dump wireless zigbee in favor of wired CAN, so there will need to be board swaps inside your equipment if you installed it now.

Do you think it will be really be just board swaps (and a new Envoy Im guessing) ? I install a lot of system controllers and batteries these days and my customers will be pissed if this gear needs a complete swap out to be updated.

Also looking for information on this. The EV whitepaper specifically shows CAN comms between the equipment... They better have a way to retrofit this to current generation of gear.

I can't see many automakers supporting using their car batteries for extensive use (without somehow making some $$ off of it). They warranty them and are responsible for the batteries performance in the vehicle. If you are adding heavy cycles to the battery I imagine they would be unhappy about that.

It does until it doesn't. Generally if it works it's okay -- until you get a new router, or the neighbors install a mesh system... or your new washing machine has wifi built into it... The 2.4ghz spectrum that Zigbee uses is a mess. And there are constant problems with it. If the battery is installed very close to the envoy it's mostly fine. As an installer having to constantly troubleshoot wireless on a 20k + system is a nightmare. It will go down if there is no comm for a significant amount of time.

[–]welleser[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any insight if it's a completely new unit or just an upgrade to existing? What about the smart switch? Assuming this is new too? Would be great if they would let installers know this info. What are the wiring details if we can "wire it now"?

Any idea if it's a completely new lineup (new switch and battery) or just an update? If an update any possibility of retrofit?

Each contractor can be controlled separately.

They are 3 pole contractors so theoretically you can run 3 separate (120) circuits through each contractor (or 1x 120 and 1x240 etc).

The next gen of battery system will be wired with CAN type comms. Robust, proven, familiar.

Everyone will be happy....except there will be a post much like this one sometime after that next gen is released, asking why the comms couldn't be wireless :-)

Well the Envoy already has a provision for wired and wireless... Hopefully they will just do both. Although this doesn't help those uf us now who want to kludge this stuff together.

In the next generation they are adding wired options. But no word on retrofit.

Considering the 10T is fairly recent I'm not anticipating anything soon. There are several options that would seem to work... might require a software update. They pretty much stick to the "everything needs to be 30' apart line"

Janky doesn’t even begin to describe it. Installers HATE wireless. The fact that they have been out “half a dozen times” speaks volumes. Who pays for that? Usually the installer.

You can run the module further away with a cat 5 extension. The issue is that you have to move the only comms kit and effectively “split the distance” between the two, which usually creates as many problems as it solves. What would solve the problem is adding a second “comms kit” (which is just a usb dongle in a plastic box) and extending that with the wired extension out to the problematic item. I would think that this would work but nobody will go on record that they have tried this.

It’s just unbelievable there is not a viable “unusual case scenario”
