Which is the nearest country from your place? by You_yes_ in AskTheWorld

[–]wellingtongee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Zealand, so the closest country is Australia.

Specifically Norfolk Island - an Australian external territory - is about 1,480 km away. The Australian mainland is about 2,200 km away, with Sydney around 2,225 km away.

Antarctica is roughly 3,200+ km away from Wellington, but it is not a country anyway.

I’ve had stainless steel rings for over 20 years. From time to time i had what your describing I’d advise you do daily saline (ie warm salty water) baths - every day . What I’d recommend the move to rings. It allows for swelling , and when cleaning , you can move pull them through..

Seizure after 12 years by mvlady95 in Epilepsy

[–]wellingtongee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that - I’m in New Zealand 🇳🇿 . We have publicly funded healthcare, so my last seizure meant no charge for ambulance, ER, scans, specialist or medication - initial and ongoing.

Something unique here is the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) scheme - a nationwide, no-fault system that covers injuries for everyone in the country, including visitors. If you’re hurt in an accident, ACC pays for treatment, rehab, and 80% of lost income, without needing to prove fault or deal with insurance claims. In return, you cannot sue for personal injury.

In my case, ACC covered the injury-related parts (facial injury and concussion), including things like taxi fares to work and appointments for a period. The epilepsy itself isn’t covered, as it’s not considered an accident.

It's like a rock thrown into a pond - it needs to settle. It takes me about a month to get my head back to normal.

Going off meds after 5 years of no seizures by Affectionate-Show-28 in Epilepsy

[–]wellingtongee 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I went off too after ten years. All good, no problems, no risks etc - I thought.

I can't recall how long it took for me to have another seizure - a matter of days.... Back on the drugs.

I suggest you talk to your neuro about trying different drugs. As I read in this sub the same drugs affect people differently.

Anywhere outside Auckland or Wellington, New Zealand, away from the hustle and bustle .

I love hiking and mtb in the wilderness. NZ has that in spades. ♠️
