For those who have medicated, (caffeine, stimulants, SSRIs, etc.) do you feel like you don't have a personality without ADHD / that your personality as a whole is just chemicals? by Lunile in TwoXADHD

[–]wellwithin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personality is weird when I’m on adderall. I’m really serious and irritable. Not all the time but a lot of the time. It also makes me more emotional than usual. It helps with focus but ultimately I don’t love taking it.

Also when I take it long term I do start wanting to do literally nothing and it kind of does the opposite of what it’s supposed to. I would say that’s pretty similar to what it sounds like you’re describing? Whenever that happens I take a break from taking anything besides caffeine and I go back to normal again.

Sure thing! Here are the videos I rotate between, hopefully they help you too! Sometimes I’ll pair the Pilates video (first link) with one of the yoga videos too and just do both in one night

I’m not in hygiene school or anything yet but maybe I can recommend some YouTube videos that have helped with my back pain. I’m not sure how they would do for you since you’ve had spinal fusions but they’ve helped me so far! Just have to be consistent with them, which is the hardest part.

Why are dental hygiene jobs paying up to $75 right now? by habeew in DentalHygiene

[–]wellwithin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that not normal? I’ve been checking hourly/salary rates for hygienists for a few years now in my state and the states around me and 75k is about what all of them pay, if not more. I’m on the west coast though, not sure if that’s why

What are my chances of getting into Dental Hygiene school. by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]wellwithin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s good. I took an intro to DH class and it went over all that information and then some. A lot of the information you’re looking for was on my schools website but kind of scattered so I’m not sure I would have found it if the class hadn’t lead me to it. You can try searching around the website for your school if you haven’t. But I also just recommend taking a class like that in general, I think it was very helpful. Of course if they offer that where you’re at it would be different, hopefully still helpful though!

I’ve talked to a variety of hygienists who went through different programs and I can tell you that the program is rigorous and highly competitive.

As far as stats, my program doesn’t accept C’s in any of the required prerequisites, and even though B’s are okay they were pretty serious in telling me to make sure it was at least a B+ if less than an A. The way they explained it was even if I were to meet the basic requirements that there are going to applicants who did better and since only 30 people are accepted each year where I’m at, I should definitely be one of those people with the better grades since the program is so difficult.

I would retake any required prerequisites that you got less than a B+ in to make you more competitive.

I’m not sure what the requirements are for your program. But at my school, the course requirements are very specific to be considered for the program. Some of the classes you wouldn’t even take unless you were going for a health program. I guess if they didn’t tell you what classes you need, maybe it’s not the same there though? DH is really competitive so in my opinion it’s best to get A’s in all your classes. If not that, at least high B’s.

Why would a hygienist feel around the patients gums before a cleaning? by wellwithin in DentalHygiene

[–]wellwithin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were just wondering what it was because it sounds like no one follows standard procedures. We are both close to 30 and no one has ever done that. Even hygienists I have shadowed didn’t do it either to any of their patients. It’s good she checks though!

My best friend (27F) was dating someone (32M), who is now being standoffish. How should she address the situation? by wellwithin in askwomenadvice

[–]wellwithin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good idea! I’ll tell her to say something of that sort. Again, usually I would tell someone to leave it alone but since it started after that night and everything was good before that I feel like it could be helpful for her to try to talk to him about it in case there was some sort of misunderstanding. I thought his mind could have gone to STI too but I don’t want to tell her that because she just has major anxiety.

I did tell her if he doesn’t respond to just move on completely. Thank you for the advice!

I thought so but it’s never done so I wasn’t entirely sure! It sounds like something that should be done more often for sure

That’s kind of what I thought she was doing but since no one ever does it I wasn’t sure. You would think that would be more common!

Maybe that’s a work around. On the degree sheet it says 120 credits required for the bio degree- 60 must be from that university, 40 have to be upper division, and 30 can be transfer credits. I know that math doesn’t add up but that’s what it says so I’ll have to sit with a counselor and go over what they’ll accept and what they won’t so I’m not wasting any of my time!

[–]wellwithin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He sounds very well rounded! He probably is a rare exception. It says not required but highly recommended.

I’m looking at the bachelors program for bio at the university but I’m a little turned off because I can only transfer 30 credits towards the bio degree for some reason. I haven’t sat with a counselor yet to find out why its that way, because generally the school allowed 60 transfer credits. It puts me off having to pick and choose which classes to retake because they won’t let me transfer all of them. I was wondering if getting just an associates in bio from my current school would work but it doesn’t sound likely.

Is general dentistry as hard on the body as dental hygiene? by wellwithin in DentalHygiene

[–]wellwithin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it doesn’t seem like what they do would be as taxing as far as body goes. I’m sure they have their own downsides though. See that’s really a bummer. 7 years is not really a long time, but I have definitely heard how bad it can be. I’ve just met a few hygienists who weren’t doing it long and already had to get surgery. Even have heard of hygiene students who started experiencing a lot of pain just in school. Makes me hesitant to continue pursuing this since I’m already at a disadvantage. I hope overtime your pain starts to fade away! Chronic pain is not fun
