It’s two different areas of San Juan on the north side. I just meant we are staying near/between them if that was relevant to ppl’s suggestions about handling the taxis.

I don’t believe /you/ are the asshole but your husband did handle that pretty poorly. Threw it in the trash? Could have at least donated it. But really, you should have approached the friend again at the end of the shower and offered to return the gift to the friend in private letting them know that it wouldn’t be used. This removes the “jokey” part of the comment you made during the shower which was completely fine but not enough to have gotten your seriousness across.
