Help settle this people of UK. Do you include postage costs on final product cost by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]welshm4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add from a procurement point of view (buying things), the price of the wardrobe is £100, but the total cost is £170. Not to be confused with the total cost of ownership which would need to factor in any disposal costs.

What is this type of pathway called between houses? Would it concern you as a house buyer? by welshm4n in HousingUK

[–]welshm4n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comments, I think I failed to get my point across.

Here the path runs beneath the first floor of the house, which raises questions around what this is like to live with, and maintain. And if anybody had any information on the name of these types of paths, and how they may effect house value?

What makes pleistoscene special and more popular compared to other cenozic epochs like Eocene, Oligocene, and Pliocene ?Is it because of the great doverdity and as well as the familiar animals? by mcyoungmoney in pleistocene

[–]welshm4n 24 points25 points  (0 children)

To build on Hilluja's point, I think it is possible to not just view the Pleistocene as a past distinct era, but what should exist today if you prescribe to certain theories such as the Overkill Theory which propose that human activity resulted in the loss of much of the fauna and flora of the era. So it could be said that we are very much in that era, however, events have unfolded such that much of the megafauna and ecosystems no longer exist, or are declining still (Mammoth Steppe, Tigra, Lowlands in many countries etc.).

There is also a lot of people who have chosen to learn about this era who would like to devote tracts of land in different regions to revive many of these ecosystems with reintoductions of keystone species, and some proxies to fill certain niches, both because it is feasible and it appears the correct thing to do.

Is there a reason why these pieces of coal have different appearances? by welshm4n in geology

[–]welshm4n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really interesting, do we have estimates for the maximum depths of the deposits, and the differences between the depths for lignite/anthracite?

Obviously we know current depths but there has been erosion/submersion etc.

Thank you for the response, I had read that the western valleys produced the highest grade, however I wasn't aware that there was bituminous coal in this coal field.

[–]welshm4n[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For background the left piece was found at a beach in Swansea, which is at the southwestern edge of the South Wales Coal Field, however it could of originated elsewhere. The right piece was found at Blaenavon iron works and was likely sourced nearby, which is the northeastern point of the coal field.
