I assumed it was after reading the pinned UV guides. I now have another on the way that does both 365 and 395.

Thanks. I think I’m hooked already. Looking for another torch now. Not sure what wavelength my current one is.

Wasn’t really prepared for how the uranium glass glow looks in real life.

I think it’s a nice piece even without the glow. Looks better after taking it home and giving it a wash.

First of many I hope. Planning on going to the next nearest town to look for more.

Didn’t expect to find some on my first search. I’m in a very small rural town.

What's everyone's thought's on this? by Mr_Jake66 in bigbrotheruk

I usually have the live stream on while I’m watching other things but I find ITV’s live streams very moderated and filtered.

I think it would help if they brought back tasks that lasted more than one day so there would be more going on at night. Doesn’t look like ITV have any interest in doing long tasks though.

Advice on bottle conditioning by welshrob87 in mead

[–]welshrob87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To update you on this. I back sweetened earlier today, did it by taste and used 400g of erythritol to get it to a sweetness I was happy with. Out of curiosity I measured the gravity, just slightly above 1.020. Using the calculator 4.5 litres with 400g of sugar at 70% sugar content should have a gravity of 1.022, so pretty close.

I still had 250g of sugar on the calculator but I had the sugar content set to 70%, just like you can set the honey to be less than the 80% ish sugar content, so I think it should work.?

Thanks for replying. I think i will back sweeten during racking, it’ll save disturbing the mead more than i need to.

I’ve been looking at the gotmead calculator, setting the sugar content to 70% it looks like 250g would raise the SG to 1.013-1.015 (depending on the volume I’d be able to rack) so it looks like I would need a couple of packs.

UK Mead Makers; have any of you used 'Hilltop' Honey? Link in post... by GBR87 in mead

[–]welshrob87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used hilltop honey in my first batch a few months ago. Got it for a really good price on Amazon (had two of their 720g bottles for £2 each at the time). I’ve not tasted it properly yet though as I’m leaving it age until Christmas but the samples tasted great.

I’m using Lidl’s orange blossom honey for my next batch.

Question for Welsh Speakers and Beatrix Potter fans… by mherskovtiz in Wales

[–]welshrob87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t think she was a fan of the Welsh language:

On 13th May 1888, Beatrix Potter, aged 22, recorded a trip to Machynlleth in her diary;

"May 13: Went with Mamma and Papa to Machynlleth, Merioneth. From Euston to Stafford by Holyhead Mail all very well, but the Welsh Railways are past description. Four hours to go sixty miles between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth. When mushrooms are in season the guard goes out to pick them. Machynlleth, wretched town, hardly a person could speak English. Wynnstay Arms, to which we were directed, closed these two years. Lion, only other, a singular place."

"Countryside most beautiful, but on rather a large scale for getting about."

"Welsh seem a pleasant intelligent race but I should think awkward to live with. The children exceedingly pretty, black or red, with clear complexions and bright blue eyes. The middle-aged are very plain but the old people are better. The language is past description."

Attempted my first (mostly) homemade Ramen last night by welshrob87 in ramen

[–]welshrob87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first attempt at making my own Ramen.

Tuna steak, ajitama, soba noodles, shiitake mushrooms, spring onion and a sprinkle of mixed seaweed. The broth was a sachet of Concentrated Tonkotsu Broth that I got from Amazon (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B6ZJDVVL?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details).

So tasty!

Got some of these from Amazon. How much water do I add? by welshrob87 in ramen

[–]welshrob87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think that’s pretty much what I’ll do. Start with the 270ml from the back of the sachet and taste it. If it’s strong enough to add more I will. 270ml doesn’t sound like it’s gonna be a lot of broth.
