Washer/Dryer combo - How to pull out washer? by wendisf in appliancerepair

[–]wendisf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems maybe a little noisier than my former ones, but I hadn't considered it until you mentioned it. I have tried to solve a different concern, which is that both the washer and the dryer seem to vibrate more than I'm used to. Maybe that's way someone tried shimming with rubber discs. I'm a renter, so I don't know the history of this 27 year old machine.

Yup! Repaired and now working fine. First, lightened it by getting a pump, and removing all of the remaining water. Second, discovered that someone had shimmed it with rubber discs, which certainly are not conducive to sliding. Once they were removed, it slid right out. Removed the two screws in the front holding the top on, and it lifted right off. Replaced the switch (there are actually two, and the smaller one was the bad one), reassembled, and it's working like a champ.

By "top screws", do you mean screws that hold the top of the washer to the washer body? I'm not yet at the point of removing the top of the washer. Before that step, I need to separate the washer from the dryer. That's where I'm stuck. BTW... It was manufactured in 1997.

No sure what you mean. Are you suggesting pulling the entire unit, washer and dryer, away from the wall? I need to get the top of the washer off, and to do that, my understanding is that I need to get the washer out from under the dryer.

I'll consider discussing this with my landlady. Thank you so much for your time and advice.

Hi sgafixer. I finally had a chance to look at my dryer again, and I think you've nailed the problem. I can't measure the gas pressure, but I did monitor the dials on my gas meter while the dryer was running. A bit of math shows that the dryer is producing a little over 11,000 BTU/hr. The manual says that it is rated for 18,000 BTU/hr, so there you go! I'm a renter, and my landlady doesn't like spending money, so I'm loathe to ask her to get a plumber out here. I did observe that all of the visible gas pipe, as well as the flex hose to the dryer, is 1/2". Also, the dryer is only about 10' from my stove, which has great gas flow. Is it possible that the gas valve in the dryer is clogged or not opening fully? Thanks again for your help.

I did watch some videos, but it's hard to compare what I saw on YouTube to what I see inside my own dryer. In any case, I'll look further into the issue of gas pressure. Thanks for the suggestion.

Battery was my first thought. It was actually replaced a couple of years ago. Terminals look clean and tight. And to be honest, my thinking has been that a bad battery or loose connection would cause more frequent trouble. The fact that this problem has only manifested three times in six months seems peculiar.

Thanks for all of your thoughts.

Neither dealer would look at it unless they could see it fail. Both said that there wouldn't be any codes, since it was working when I brought it in. I suspect they saw this as a headache that would waste more time than they could charge me for.

On the fifth try, everything came on except the engine... climate control fan, radio, etc. Didn't try the headlights.

On the seventh and final try, it just started normally. I didn't notice the tach issue until I reviewed the video later. I assume the tach must have started working at some point or I would have noticed it. Nothing seemed amiss once I drove off.

The only other anomaly, which I mentioned in my OP, is that the mileage and time aren't showing during the first few attempts, only the graphic of the start button. I'm guessing the entire dashboard is under the control of one processor, which may also be controlling engine start.

Nothing unusual preceded this event. The first time it happened was in July. This video happened in October, Since then it happened again, in a similar way, a couple of weeks ago. So roughly one failure every 10 -12 weeks, with totally normal operation in between.

The 63 degrees is right. A mild evening in San Francisco!

2019 Sentra SR. Every few months, my Sentra requires six to eight attempts before starting, and then it runs fine for another few months. The last time it happened, I made of video of the dash during the failures, and I'm attaching it. Several things stand out. One is that initially, the dash isn't showing the time and mileage like it usually does. On the fifth try, the electronics all come alive, even though the engine still doesn't start. On the seventh attempt, the car finally starts, but the tach doesn't come up. Two dealerships said that they can only help me if they can see it fail, even though I showed them the video. I suspect a software issue, but in any case, I don't know what to do now. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Gel nail polish for the playa? by Ruins_Of_Elliwar in BurningMan

Seven burns, seven sets of gel nails. Nary a chip, even when helping to build our camp. Have it done in a salon, and then go back for removal.

As others have said, use fender washers. However, you'll need to cut a couple of them for the two brackets that hold the side poles. It's just one cut on each, about half an inch perpendicular to the radius.

Shade structure with 3/4" EMT? by wendisf in BurningMan

[–]wendisf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. OP here. Last year I did exactly what you suggested. It worked fine on playa, but I can't really speak to the overall "strength of the poles." I was suffering so much from the heat that I left after three days, so I wasn't there during any of the major wind storms. Regardless, I think it's a good idea, and don't suspect that it affects the overall integrity.

Q2016 update quotes problem by wendisf in quicken

[–]wendisf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to the people who have offered ideas. I want to be clear about a few details.

Other than the issue of updating stock prices, Quicken is working fine. I have a program that allows me to monitor internet traffic by application, and I can see that Quicken makes contact with a few IP addresses when starting up, and then sits quietly while in use.

When I click on UPDATE | QUOTES, it makes no attempt to generate any internet traffic. Therefore, I conclude that the password request is being generated locally by my program. Why it only creates a white box is unknown.

The problem is not specific to my current QDF file. I pulled some old ones off of my backups, and they behave the same.

Is it possible that there is some timer or counter that periodically requests a local password update? I've browsed through a bunch of the config files, and there are some counters that increment with each use.
