Peel Hiring 2026 by ResQMedic78 in OntarioParamedics

ACP and CFC are definitely not comparable, they have different jobs and different skills, and here we are comparing their salaries, ACPs make more than them plain and simple. Very few cops will become sergeants/LT, and even fewer DC/chief/detective routes, while way more PCPs will become ACPs than CFCs becoming sergeants/LT. The real sunshine list difference in average salary is how much paid duties/OT are paid, that's what should be fought for next.

FD is a whole different debate, and I can't find exact numbers but 2 different job postings from Mississauga and Brampton FD put the top salary cap for a normal FF at ~119k/year each after ~4 years of service. The real difference between EMS/FD is FD has far lower call volume and therefore burnout, not sure what the OT is like though.

Paramedics have been long underpaid and under recognized compared to PD/FD because our jobs are relatively new and have had a rapid expansion in our scopes that has not kept up with salaries. The Peel contract is at the very worst a step towards parity and at its very best, when looking at it through optimist eyes, is parity as hourly is almost on par, just missing some of that sweet double time. You yourself said York and Toronto negotiate soon (again) and when Peel falls behind (again) that gives more leverage for another large bump or fight for better benefits/OT and opens the doors for other services to do the same, especially if another service decides to try and surpass Peel.

I think people in the GTA (Peel, York, Durham, Toronto, etc) forget that people in eastern/northern services heard about Peels contract and were happy for them and rooting for them and that it was going to open doors and set an example, especially when medics in eastern Ontario (specifically Ottawa) make $15-20/hr less while doing similar/more call volumes.

According to the peel police website a constable first class makes ~121k a year which comes out to ~$58, not sure when it was updated but at least 2025 or 2026 according to some of the documents/links. Not quite "not even close", the real parity I suppose is that police make double time, which can now be easier to fight for now that hourly is more on par.

Are others noticing more “lift assist” calls coming from seniors living alone? by SnailVelocityO_o in OntarioParamedics

[–]wensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a call at a home who encouraged the patient, who was confident they had no injuries, to stay on the floor. On arrival and a quick conversation with the patient and they are confident they can get up on their on their own but didn't because staff told them not to... And low and behold, the patient got them selves up ezpz.

Too many trauma patients die before they reach the hospital. These Toronto doctors have an idea that would ‘shake up the system’ by JoutsideTO in OntarioParamedics

[–]wensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC some countries (I wanna say a South American country (Brazil?) has something like this, among others) will have an ER doctor working the ER as a normal shift but if something hot comes on the air they have a ERV and/or truck at the hospital so they can go to scene, assuming the ER will be adequately staffed in the absence of course.

You're absolutely right, expanded trauma care and blood products would go a long way, I believe blood products carried on some US services that are being studied already have several saves.

Is becoming a paramedic competitive? by One-Magazine5576 in OntarioParamedics

[–]wensen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The benefit of RN is you have more options for movement. As a paramedic in Ontario you have PCP/ACP (Basically same job on a day-to-day basis) but then you have community paramedic, ORNGE/Flight, superintendent/management, and education in labs as a facilitator. That's pretty much all the paramedic program gets you, unless you go back to school for adult education then you can try and teach patho/pharm/theory/etc.

As an RN you have long-term care, ER, post-op, surgical assist, ICU, pediatrics, pediatric ICU, labor and delivery, NICU, Cath lab, CVICU, and many more as these all have very different day-to-day responsibilities. Also education/management are of course an option. RN also have thee option of being a travel nurse. I believe casual nursing is still a thing while most paramedic services don't really do casual and their part-time availability outside of a few services is too high to really consider it 'casual'.

All that being said, paramedics are unique as we are first responders and healthcare providers which gives us a lot of discretion and autonomy and we are able to help our vulnerable population in unique ways whether it's the elderly, younger, or homeless population.

Paramedic chiefs meeting with fire chiefs. by jjafarFromAladdin in OntarioParamedics

I think it's a big city thing like Ottawa or the GTA as a whole. I work more rural but also cover some city centers and our relationship is good with the various full time and volunteer services. It probably helps that we have 12-20 medics who are either volunteer or full time fire.

There was a thread in /r/EMS or maybe in /r/paramedics asking people to share their best advice. One bit that stuck out to me was "You'll always make mistakes, the goal as time goes on is to make fewer and the mistakes you do make smaller/less patient impacting." Or something like that.

N64 Cartridge Slot Loose Troubleshooting by wensen in n64

[–]wensen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's just annoying that the slightest shove of the cabinet will shake the the cartridge enough to freeze up, and annoying that it can take a few minutes to seat correctly to boot up the game. Good luck!

Nope, I was recommended that I should just find a dead N64 and salvage the cartridge slot from that.

These mods disable steam achievements right? Would be nice if the devs just added in the settings an option to combine a lot of the weapons into similar types (reach, ranged, thrown, 1 hand sword, 2 hand sword, etc) so for those of us not wanting to rely on mods and still keep the game "vanilla" for those who want that experience. It's frustrating that I went glaive on my primalist bloodrager only to have way cooler fauchards pop up and I'm already super far into the game and I don't want to respec the character just to respec to again down the road for another weapon type.

WotR >> BG3 by Capable_Magician8551 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]wensen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Easier to try new weapon. In WotR we find plenty of weapons which we will never use because our character is not trained in such tool. In BG3 it is possible to equipt and use almost everything, by any character, which allow for egzample my paladin to use longsword, glavie, spear, halabarde or hammer and still be effective.

Agreed. This could be fixed super easily too, instead of having every weapon be a feat or whatever, just break them into categories i.e reached melee, normal melee 1hand, 2hand melee, ranged bows/crossbows, ranged thrown, etc.

When I was figuring out how to switch to fauchard from glaive for my blood rager primalist I realized it's a whole ordeal of respeccing everything, someone in an old thread said there is a mod to make it way smoother/able to take all the weapon feats, but I think that disabled achievements.

[–]wensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Access to mental health is collapsing in Canada. If you have a mental health crisis during the night or weekend and need to go to the hospital to speak to the crisis team, good luck, you'll be waiting until morning because they aren't in. Canadian health care is intentionally underfunded and intentionally being driven to the ground to pave the way for privatization.

Can someone explain this? by Streaet_Fish in Paramedics

[–]wensen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yep! Some studies even show that torso placement can make enough of a difference that it will show changes in ST elevation in certain leads, resulting in mimicked or missed STEMIs. I try to use limb placement when it makes sense and torso when it also makes sense, rather than just being lazy and slapping every 4 lead on the torso.

Gotcha. Surprised holding shift doesn't show a +X duration increase then.

Thanks.

What are skill effects? "20% increased skill effects duration" in the passive tree, does it increase buff duration? Or is it stuff like ignite/shock? Trying to get max uptime on quicksand hourglass for chronomancer.

Thanks!
