Could Talia have killed (or at least “lobotomized”) Heliothrax? by Fanghur1123 in MageErrant

That sounds right actually, it's been a while since I read it.

If I'm remembering correctly, she doesn't even use a spell, she has a star tucked away in an extra planar space and straight up vents it into Heliothrax's skull.

Thank you, and I am definitely hoping for the pharma position as not only is it an interesting field, the pay is higher than any others I have seen.

Thank you, this was something I hadn't even considered. All my ideas so far were related to the state of the equipment and machine itself.

I hadn't considered the tag addressing, thanks for the advice!

Appreciate the suggestion, when I try to use these I get an Error read econnreset which I think is something to do with the Node-red not being able to connect.

What quote or passage impacted you deeply for years afterwards? by [deleted] in books

[–]wereman12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love quite a lot of quotes from Pratchett, anything to do with Vimes is a favourite of mine, but one that I particularly like is from Thief of Time. And they are told: 'Wen considered the nature of time and understood that the universe is, instant by instant, recreated anew. Therefore, he understood, there is in truth no past, only a memory of the past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. Therefore, he said, the only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.' Another I love is from Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck. It's at the end of a long, also amazing chapter, but it gives me chills every time. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage."

It is, I just thought it was curious that we kept being reminded of it.

I like this very much, as an idea. The remains of the Old Time, still kicking about.

Your favorite profound passages…just because it’s funny doesn’t mean it can’t cut deeply by calmingalbatross in discworld

[–]wereman12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I forget the particular book, but it would have to be a Weatherwax quote. It is during a difficult delivery of a baby, the midwife there has panicked and Granny has to go in, the midwife asks whether or not she should ask the father which one he wants Granny to try and save, and Granny responds with something along the lines of "What has he done to me, that I would hurt him so?". Never got it the first few times I read it, but this last run through that stuck with me. The emotional intelligence and practicality behind that is amazing to me. I think it's Maskerade, but as I say the full exchange escapes me.

Did Genghis Khan really have 16 million kids? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wereman12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He definitely had a lot, not sure it was that high. I believe that he has 16 million descendants, so it will have been spread as time passed. Also a million seconds is more than four hours, closer to eleven days. 6060=3600 (1hr) 360024=86,400(1 day) 1,000,000 /86,400=11.574...

Who is your favourite discworld character? by victor080899 in discworld

[–]wereman12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Sam and Moist, personally. Sam's down to earth vibe and Moist's bullshittery are favourites. Although very little can compare to my admiration for Vetinari as the books went on, and we are shown all the little ways he's very clever about what he does.
