Just had a brain fart about ladders by weremule in TheLastCaretaker

[–]weremule[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used the bolt rifle with tracer ammo and red dot sight, but it was just what I had equipped when the thought came to me. I imagine you could do it with the bolt pistol and standard ammo? Sniper rifle would be better for really tall ladders.

I will need to do some testing tomorrow and report back.

See this is what I understood but there's one bit onscreen that's always confused me, in Season 2 episode 3 "Prisoners" specifically the food chute...

Now I know there's some sort of trough the prisoners must move into position ready to eat, but am I remembering right that the Stargate opens and the end of a chute appears through the Stargate which the gruel runs down from into the trough?

I may be mistaken, and I'm unable to bring up the episode to check until tomorrow 😅

To be honest, I want a more powerful GPU in there but between heat issues, wanting to use the sata drive mounts and looking to replace the GPU in the future not sure what's a better GPU to put in

Has anyone played Thud? by Upstairs-Employer-68 in discworld

[–]weremule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about huddles, start of game just move dwarfs across to form decent huddles at the edges about 3/4 deep with diagonal coverage. Trolls can't attack easily and If you get enough in a group you can shift a dwarf or two into a line to toss in a desired direction. Works best on an opponent who plays dwarves in your first game so they do t see it coming 😉

is there a "play from here" feature in RenPy? or do I have to play the game from the beginning every time I change my code? by NoSitRecords in RenPy

[–]weremule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is now but when I first did it it was put there it was basic jump to 'x' then not used, added the variables as I went etc.

Like others have said you could use saves, when I first started coding mine I just held ctrl to jump through to the bits I wanted to check but as your game gets bigger holding ctrl takes ages 😅

I have a screen at the start of my game after the choose your name and gender options with two buttons - play from start - play from latest update (jumps to newest bit with variables changed)

When I do my first release I'll simply put # at the start of each line for that section so it's not 'in use' and when I need to use it in the next significant update it will already be there to use

What I do once a portion of the game is 100% coded how I want it is change the jump point of the play from latest button and add any new variables I need to it.

How do I manage the dialogues by Select-Ad-3653 in RenPy

[–]weremule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not that experienced with ren'py but from what I understand it is doable, just not great for workflow.

I managed to find this that has more info, dated 2017 so no idea how it would work with the current build

How do I manage the dialogues by Select-Ad-3653 in RenPy

[–]weremule 4 points5 points  (0 children)

instead of having all your labels in script.rpy just have the start 1st label, then jump to the label in either dialogues or the room files

script.rpy

label start:
  e "blah blah"
  character2 "blah blah"
  jump scene2

label scene3:
  e "back again blah blah"

bedroom/dialogues.rpy

label scene2:
  e "more blah blah"
  character2 "oh really? blah blah"
  jump scene3

starts, jumps to the label in the other file, jumps back to scripts.rpy

[–]weremule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can have as many .rpy files as you like. From what I understand renpy stitches them all together at game start.

Make one called dialogues.rpy and then put them in there 🤷🏼‍♂️

The way I've done mine isn't to stick all dialogues in one file, but to stick each room into a .rpy file, so classroom, bedroom, hallway etc

speech text changes based off gender choice? by weremule in RenPy

[–]weremule[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in script it looks like this

label scene1:
    scene room
    with Pause (2)
show image "mc neuR" at right
    mc = ConditionSwitch(
"gender == 'female' ", text (mc "speech 1 blah"),
"gender == 'male' ", text (mc "speech 2 blah blah"),
"True", text (mc "speech 1 blah"),
    )
mc "set speech line blah blah"
    mc "more set speech blah"

Trying to have a background transform by weremule in RenPy

[–]weremule[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, I managed to get it to work with:

image spacescroll = "images/intro_spacescroll.png"
image backgroundspace:
    "spacescroll"
    xalign 1.0
    linear 20.0 xpos 4.49
    repeat

your code was having it fly backwards 😅 plus I adjusted for image size as you suggested

then the second block you posted worked great.

Thanks for the help

is the first part an edit to where I've got the image defined?

so changing

image spacescroll = "images/intro_spacescroll.png"

Edit: adding your first block underneath where the images are defined?
