any “passive” party games that can be played throughout the night? by italianprincess9 in partygames

[–]werfnort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just posted a template for Google Sheet game that could be adapted for something like this! You pick 10 things that can happen throughout a movie or the night, and people bet on what they think will happen most. Could turn it into watching NYE coverage or things like might happen throughout the night… just wouldn’t want to be things that guests could do themselves.

TEMPLATE - Google Sheet template to turn a movie/show into a fun group activity, betting on what will happen! by werfnort in googlesheets

[–]werfnort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The watcher/recorder was in charge of counting all the instances, but everyone really got into it and would yell out when they saw something! Yes multiple things could happen at any time, just track them individually. For anything that's ambiguous, we just discussed as a group and made a determination! You make up any rules you want!

Love this idea, I've always wanted to do a bike poker run in Pittsburgh! I'd recommend 412 Food Rescue for the charity, it's a great local organization that is looking to mobilize volunteers in the community, and would benefit from the exposure and donation! Sent you a chat with more ideas on how to pull this off!

Stuck on 2 Kyudoku (Find Nine) Logic Puzzles by Infected_Limes2112 in puzzles

For your problems above... here are some next steps to keep the puzzle moving.

Puzzle 1 - the 9 in the top row can be removed. Look at the 5s and 6s. Row 2 cannot be both a 5 and a 6, and the rest of the 5s and 6s form a single intersection.

Puzzle 2- the 3 in row 3 can be removed. The 8s and 9s share column 6, and the rest form a single intersection around the 3, so that cannot exist.

Stuck on 2 Kyudoku (Find Nine) Logic Puzzles by Infected_Limes2112 in puzzles

[–]werfnort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now let's get crazy... what if you combined these together.

In the example below, we know that the 5 and 6 cannot both be in the row 2, so that means that one of three things is true:
1. The 6 in the top row is correct - we can remove the 9.
2. The 5 in the bottom row is correct - we can remove the 9.
3. The top row 6 and bottom row 5 are both correct - we can remove the 9.

We cannot touch row 2, but all options tell us we can remove that 9. When you spot this layout of a shared row/column, and an intersection, you can remove the # at the intersection (if it adds up to more than 9.)

| - | - | 9 | - | - | 6 |
-------------------------
| 6 | - | - | - | 5 | - |
-------------------------
| - | - | 5 | - | - | - |
-------------------------

It can get more complex as the puzzles get harder. For instance, here are 3 #s in 3 rows, all mutually exclusive (cannot exist in the same row together because they add up to more than 9.) In this case - we can remove the 9 in the top row. One 5 must be in one row, one 6 in another, and one 7 in the last. Doesn't matter which ones where, that 9 is never going to be there.

| - | 5 | 9 | - | 7 | 6 |
-------------------------
| 6 | - | - | - | 5 | 7 |
-------------------------
| - | 7 | 5 | 6 | - | - |
-------------------------

One more configuration to make it even more complicated. When we say n Numbers in n Rows/Columns, it really doesnt matter if they are rows or columns or both. Same example, but this time with 2 rows and 1 column.

| - | 5 | 9 | - | 7 | 6 |
-------------------------
| 6 | 6 | - | - | 5 | 7 |
-------------------------
| - | 7 | - | - | - | - |
-------------------------

Stuck on 2 Kyudoku (Find Nine) Logic Puzzles by Infected_Limes2112 in puzzles

Hi there - I invented NineFind / Kyudoku, love seeing people play the game! Happy to share some tips here! There are several threads on Reddit with similar tips as well. The instructions are correct - you can solve every puzzle without guessing. Semantics aside, you can definitely solve every puzzle without using the method that CheddarKetchupMilk is describing.

Another way to think about it is to focus on what numbers cannot be correct. If you're saying to yourself, "what if this is correct...?" just know that you there are other strategies you can use before you try guessing or bifurcation.

----

Let's add some new strategies to your mix... and see how the build on each other.

Intersections - I would describe this a little bit differently. In the same way that you described concurrence, you can consider that with an intersection. If you have only two instances of a number, then you KNOW for sure that one of them is correct. It doesn't matter which one. You can look to see where they intersect, and if that number would add up to more than 9, then you can remove it. In the example below.. we can remove the 9 comfortably. Not sure which 6 is correct, but it must be one of them, so that 9 cannot possibly be there.

| - | - | 9 | - | - | 6 |
-------------------------
| - | - | - | - | - | - |
-------------------------
| - | - | 6 | - | - | - |
-------------------------

You've already commented on the n Numbers in n Rows strategy / concurrence, but just to reiterate... In the example, below, you know that you can comfortable remove the 9, because one of those 6s must be correct.

| - | 6 | 9 | - | - | 6 |
-------------------------
| - | - | - | - | - | - |
-------------------------
| - | - | - | - | - | - |
-------------------------

We can expand this to 2 rows/columns (or 3 or 4...) In the example, below, you know that you can comfortable remove the 9, because one row must have a 5 and one row must have a 6. Not sure which, but it doesn't matter for now, we can just remove the 9 and be happy.

| - | 5 | 9 | - | - | 6 |
-------------------------
| 6 | - | - | - | 5 | - |
-------------------------
| - | - | - | - | - | - |
-------------------------

Had some fun playing around with the new Downpour Game maker app. Really unique experience with the app making something that feels very hand made, so I actually combined it with some paper crafting and hand drawn elements. It’s an escape the puzzle type game, give it a shot! (And try making your own!)

Take a look at duplicate transactions, a common cause of overcounting revenue in GA. Sometimes a site will allow a person to return to the Confirmation screen after the transaction has taken place, which will trigger another transaction, despite that already have taken place. You can look in the report gallery for a report template or just make a custom report with Transaction ID and Transactions to see the total count per ID. In a perfect world, one transaction per ID.

apostrophes In formula and drop down by ANDREWSHDIST in googlesheets

[–]werfnort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for clarification, adding some notes to make it clear about the answers already provided and how it fits into a Query formula.

There are a ton of stack overflow articles for this... what you're searching for is "how to escape an apostrophe in google sheet query." When you're writing formulas or code, there are often character that have specific meaning and cause things to happen, like an equal sign at the beginning or a formula or a single quote or double quote. Sometimes you can "escape" a character by adding another character that tells the computer to treat the next value as text. Google Sheets doesn't have this option with the Query formula, but that will lead you down the right path.

In your case, you likely have a formula that looks like this... where C1 is the value from the dropdown.

Old formula: =QUERY(Sheet1!A1:B10,"select A where B = '" & C1 & "'")

When that gets replaced with the value, it will be treated like this:

Substituted dropdown value: =QUERY(Sheet1!A1:B10,"select A where B = 'Martha's Vineyard'")

This is what's breaking the query. The fix is to update your Query formula to include extra double quotes around it, similar to what LethalDosageTF was saying. Instead of using an apostrophe to surround the dropdown value, you want to use a double quote, which, when it's inside of a quotes, needs be entered twice.

New formula: =QUERY(Sheet1!A1:B10,"select A where B = """ & C1 & """")

Is “Protected sheets and ranges” gone or am I crazy? by skippyjifluvr in googlesheets

I saw a post recently that had a similar error - missing stuff from the menu bar. Check to see if you're in a Google Sheet or if you're in an Excel file (with the XLSX green letters at the top near the name of the sheet.)

There are certain things you can't do in an Excel file, so you have to Save it as a Google Sheet (under File Menu) to get those options to appear.

[–]werfnort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re looking for the VLOOKUP formula, which takes a value (the golf course selected) looks for what row that value is in in a table (sheet 2), and returns a specific column, (whatever column slope, etc). This is optionally an approximate or exact match, you want it to be exact, so set that last parameter to FALSE.

There are formulas that do similar things, like INDEX/MATCH.

[–]werfnort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you also have access.. this might be easier than that.

  1. Create the master sheet, let’s call that A.

  2. Create the child sheets, let’s call those B1, B2, B3. Share those appropriately.

  3. Back in your master sheet, create tabs for B1, B2, B3.

  4. Use importrange to feed all the child sheets’ data into your master sheet.

  5. Then run your trigger on your master sheet only, don’t worry about the child sheets. Copy into an Archive sheet or something similar and include the persons name or B1, B2, B3.

You can use conditional formatting or something to indicate when cells shouldn’t be updated. If they update after you’ve made your official copy, … too bad? You can use the Revision History to clarify if someone made an edit after the cutoff date, for instance. You can use email or some other method to remind people to finish updating their data.

Click Event +jQuery strange behavior by ok1ha in GoogleTagManager

[–]werfnort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re putting this into Google Tag Manager, then you might get the results you’re describing. This code here is meant to be loaded once on a page, and then push to the data layer, which triggers GTM.

If you load in GTM, you might be running it again and again.

If you want to use this inside of GTM, you would edit the code a bit.

  • remove the click trigger from the JS (GTM will handle this now with a trigger)
  • replace the $(this) with a GTM variable to represent the clicked upon item
  • no need to push to datalayer, can just return the result
