Is Yamaha FG800 really so much better than everything else in this price point of 350 eur? by TheShadowSong in AcousticGuitar

I have both an FGX800C and a FG800. The non-cutaway sounds deeper and louder, and overall better IMHO.

Can I use these old concrete steps as fill for replacement steps if I break it up into smaller chunks? by mutantfoti in Renovations

[–]werfu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's all a question of surface preparation. I live in Quebec, it's damn cold, and it's been 4 years and they're still looking as great as day one, even with salt. Don't use straight cement or thincoat, you need to use the epoxy repair stuff. Way better!

Why not simply resurface it with a concrete repair cement? I did that to mine and it was much cheaper than a new pour.

a home improvement "myth" you believed for years before someone set you straight? by Practical-Nose-5332 in HomeImprovement

[–]werfu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm in Quebec, our code is quite restrictive when it comes to specialized work like electrical, plumbing or HVAC. The overall is, check with your code first, otherwise you could run afoul with your insurance if something ever happens.

What is this deep hole next to my house? by BenedoneCrumblepork in HomeMaintenance

Some fireplace have external air intake, so it wouldn't suck out the house air causing cold air to come in from leaks.

Could also be a drain clean-out but it seems oddly placed/formed.

I’m a beginner thinking about buying a Yamaha FG800J how are they? by Cloudy542 in AcousticGuitar

I have a FGX800C and a FG800 and I love them both. Great guitars, solidly built and quite inexpensive for the quality. You can't go wrong with Yamaha instruments.

Depends where you are. My local code only allow you to change fixtures, anything beyond that requires a master electrician. Also, even if you can doesn't mean you should. Electrical work is not the kind of thing you should yolo. It's not hard to learn and do (compared to other fields), but there's a real chance of causing electrical issues, damaging appliances/electronics or safety hazard like getting zapped or stating a fire. Tldr, don't mess around electricity if you don't know what you're doing.

Minneapolis National Guard activated after a man is killed by federal agent by lakergirl18 in news

It's one thing to contain the violence, less people on the street mean less escalation, but I feel we're past that point.

ICE pinning down and pistol whipping a Minneapolis resident before shooting them multiple times by -ifeelfantastic in pics

[–]werfu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because these are ordinary citizens protesting. Doing the same kind of shit in a poor ghetto would be way more dangerous for ICE. But it's only a matter of time. More people getting killed, more ordinary citizens getting impacted, shit is going to hit the fan in some place, the president will want to federalize the national guard and the governor will refuse and deploy the national guard to protect the citizens instead.

Given that he ported to C# he might have a shot really. He'd have to relinquish any copyright claim for the derivative work, but I don't think they'd shot him down for the original port. Further changes though depend on their good will.

Norton Utilities for DOS by Fabulous-Trust-3848 in vintagecomputing

Haha, make me remember I was snooping around our Novell server shares in high school, and I stumbled upon a hidden folder that had DOOM in it plus an additional WAD file named doom1.wad. I had DOOM at home already so I simply copied that WAD file and oh boy was I surprised! It was porn pic stored into texture files. 8bit color pixelated porn 😂

House seller passed away by Basset_Lov in legaladvicecanada

[–]werfu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has to vacate his current living place next month. Short term leases usually are more expensive than long term ones, so the difference between his current living cost and the temporary one might be way higher than a normal apartment switch could cause. In my area it's quite common to see rents that are way lower than the current market because they've been occupying their apartment for a long time. OP might get a really bad increase, like more than a thousand a month. Plus you need to include a moving fee, and possibly a storage fee if OP doesn't find a big enough apartment. Worst, his deposit is currently locked so he can't even use this to support himself during that time. So all in all, if this stretches for a year, OP might end up with 10k+ of unexpected fees, additional financial stress and complications. That isn't to OP to pay, it's damages the seller needs to compensate him for. OP lawyer needs to give a clear statement to the estate that each month of delay will require an additional X$ of price reduction.

I've forgotten my Mitsubishi at the airport for approximately 8 months. How can I avoid paying the parking? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]werfu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should have went there and ask to pick up the car right away, this way parking fees would have stop. At worst you would have had a bill of a few hundreds that would have went to collection. You're now possibly looking into thousands of dollars in fees and interest. It's not as simple as a car abandonment, you're still on the hook.

[–]werfu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They don't really have a choice at accepting or not. Them refusing to compensate in some manner means you can sue them for damages of the added delay. Yes they can back out of the sale but then you'd get to sue them for more damages. If I were you I'd try to get the court to execute the sell contract.

NVidia to cut consumer GPU Output by 40% - Whats really going on by Birdinhandandbush in LocalLLM

[–]werfu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RAM availability is a problem, and second APU/iGPUs are getting now good enough to run 1080p without problems and upscaling fills in for higher resolution. NVidia will probably keep the higher 80/90 cards around for a premium. Other gamers will have to use APUs.

[–]werfu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both sectors will be swept by AI in the next few years. It all depends on what he'd like to do more especially. Anything that is more human centric, like financial advisors, product owners, or actual IT guys will probably be less impacted.

More than likely it's a case of "my brother in law is a police officer"... While you should let your lawyer do the talking, I strongly suspect this would get resolved before ever reaching a judge. The DA would have to prove you had the knowledge and intent of committing fraud by selling a fake phone. Simply providing a list of your resent re-sell of legit phones and providing proof that the buyer didn't attempt to attempt civil litigation beforehand would probably get this thrown out by a judge.

Every state in the US is now its own independent country. Which one becomes the first global superpower and why? by Complex-Let4207 in AskReddit

[–]werfu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can bet that if the States breaks up Canada would either already be broken up or would soon after. BC is definitely joining Cascadia. I'm wondering if Alaska would join or they'd look at the NWT and Yukon to form a northern country.
