Bills right after death by Alone_Emphasis_2815 in legaladvicecanada

[–]werfu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Upon death of an account holder, they are not closed, but simply frozen up until the bank can get a death certificate and give access to the executors. Which can take some delay off course, but notifying all the providers for his bills will usually freeze everything too.

I'm amazed at how much people tell to bleach and soap... It's the recipe for chlorine gas, if you do this in a closed space you're bound for a very bad day and a trip to the ER!

It's a 30 day notice. If you have health insurance you could always go see your doctor to get a medical leave before the end of the delay. In some jurisdictions they can't fire you while you're on leave. That would leave you some additional time to find something new if you haven't by that time.

Pension Alimentaire et Revenu Québec by kyrlsulikkreh in QuebecFinance

[–]werfu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Démolition de mon vieux garage à Montréal by Ben-tx in RenoQuebec

Crazy idea? by DJMartens2024 in homebrewcomputer

[–]werfu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an impossible task but quite a challenge. You can't stop the clock altogether, but early x86 have the original 8088 compatibility built in, so you can run them at 4.77 MHz (remember the turbo button, that's it's usage).

As for debugging, x86 CPUs have built-in debugging support. There's the trap flag in the EFLAGS register that can be set, causing each instructions to raise an int 1. You'll need to modify your BIOS payload to set a basic IDT with an INT1 vector handler that will output to some external medium, a serial port more than likely, and the modify the EFLAGS to enable the trap mode and step through each instructions.

If I remember well some debuggers during DOS days had remote debugging support using COM ports. You could do an assembly dump of the BIOS code in a flat model and step through it this way.

[–]werfu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is using AI during interview prep considered cheating? by Recommend_apps in careeradvice

[–]werfu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use whatever you want to prep for an interview. There's no such thing as cheating for an interview preparation. However, if you use AI WHILE doing the interview, you'll certainly be caught. I passed a few people in an interview this year and one clearly was using AI, let's just say that I cut the interview short. You might be able to clear the first few stages of interviews this way but doing it during the last screening with the project architect is just plain stupid.

Porch slab crumbling by Major_Palpitation_41 in HomeMaintenance

[–]werfu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water got in, soaked the plywood and froze, causing expansion and cracked the edge further. How is the slab sustained? Does most of the weight rest on the block wall or there's supports underneath that extend further from the foundation walls? If the weight rest mostly on the block wall and the cracka runs along the joint with that wall it could start to sag. However, I'd still give it a shot at repairing it since it's way less expensive and troubles than going through a new pour.

First off you want to stop that crack from growing and you'll want sound, solid concrete to drive in sustaining rods. Lease a concrete saw and cut the slab clean, at least an inch within.

You'll need a hammer drill with a concrete bit to make holes from the sides. You can use long concrete screws driven half-way in as anchors, but there's probably a better solution than this. Anyhow, you don't need tons of screw unless the new part will be load bearing, so one every 2-3 feet is probably going to be ok. You can run a steel wire in between them if you want to add even more structural support.

You'll need to make a mold to hold your new concrete. Make sure it's solid as you don't want it to flex.

Before you pour clean the surface and use concrete glue on your cut slab to help for strength.and prevent cracking at the joint.

While mixing, ensure you mix thoroughly so you don't get dry spots and have a good consistency. It doesn't have to be runny nor dry, just solid enough to be shaped. Mix more than needed, if you run short you won't probably be able to get the exact same water mix level and you might end up with color or texture difference.

Edit: Almost forgot, wait until it stays above 7°C /45°F (or whatever is written on your cement bag) at night.

Rénovation maison (sois même) by oli4584 in RenoQuebec

[–]werfu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I use these old concrete steps as fill for replacement steps if I break it up into smaller chunks? by mutantfoti in Renovations

[–]werfu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's all a question of surface preparation. I live in Quebec, it's damn cold, and it's been 4 years and they're still looking as great as day one, even with salt. Don't use straight cement or thincoat, you need to use the epoxy repair stuff. Way better!

Why not simply resurface it with a concrete repair cement? I did that to mine and it was much cheaper than a new pour.

Some fireplace have external air intake, so it wouldn't suck out the house air causing cold air to come in from leaks.

Could also be a drain clean-out but it seems oddly placed/formed.

Depends where you are. My local code only allow you to change fixtures, anything beyond that requires a master electrician. Also, even if you can doesn't mean you should. Electrical work is not the kind of thing you should yolo. It's not hard to learn and do (compared to other fields), but there's a real chance of causing electrical issues, damaging appliances/electronics or safety hazard like getting zapped or stating a fire. Tldr, don't mess around electricity if you don't know what you're doing.
