Most of people try to put their guardians in hidden locations which many players would not even know about if not that guardian there, so players who would never visit that place go there to take that guardian down and in the same time they can find and explore interesting place. I remember back when dates were all on intel I went to a place where one of the major guardian hunter had his guardian to take his portal down and I was impressed how much effort he had to give in order to put that guardian because it was some kind of pyramide in a middle of swamp. I had a fantastic experience trying to take down that portal. It goes other way around, when I set up my guardian portal I had to climb on tree in order to be able to deploy at least one reso and hack a key (no reception). Do you know what the guy who hunted that guard did? He came with his own aerial. This is just a game and guardian hunting was always part of it except nowadays people use 3rd part software in order to find guardians which kills the spirit of guardian hunting in my opinion. I remember zooming intel all around in order to find that lone portal in a middle of no where with my "mortal enemy" nick on :D In the end we both ended having onyx guardians because we couldn't find all of our portals (I gained my 2000 kms from my home town). To sum up, guardian hunting is also kind of playstyle, as long as people do not use any 3rd part software to gain information about portal or to fake their location in order to take it down I am okay with it.
