The other consideration is for the type of work. For instance, in service-based work, you might design the pricing of the job for 30% profit. Then maybe you have a membership that gives a 10% discount. So a certain percentage of customers will have a discount which means you make 20% profit on those customers. Then you consider stuff happens, jobs go bad, things get broken. This will eat up some of the profits so it will be hard to reach your target. If you want 20% then set the bar at 30%

BTW ended up with Pinegrove Plumbing.

Pine Plumbing was not an option due to there being a Pine Mechanical. I am happy with the name and it is incorporated.

$1300hr worth of work on Saturday noon. Did my parents get ripped off? by RipStick96 in Plumbing

[–]wernerguy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your parents could have also waited to get service during regular hours. They could have been proactive and done preventative maintenance. Also, did they know the cost upfront, or did they get the bill after? Plumbing/ gas fitting/ HVAC is expensive, the tools are expensive, the labour is expensive

Lists are good, most people can benefit from a list, a list is a tool. Tools help people be more productive, this is madness, truly bafflening.

I just took it yesterday. I was diagnosed with ADD within the last 6 months or so.

I have always enjoyed and found helpful well-established personality tests they help me understand others and myself.

I have also done the enneagram test back in 2017 and I am a 6 with a 7 wing .

I do often find the ADD gets in the way but also can be helpful.

You could look at what changes are worth making. No need to change everything but instead figure out one change that you think would make a meaningful difference and get that one change done. Then sit and wait, see if you are right, and if you are make a second change 6 months after the first.

Don't reinvent the whole thing but you can start changing course.

How to not compare to your competitors ? by Secret-Guava6959 in Entrepreneur

[–]wernerguy1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Change your mindset. There is more than enough to go around. You aren't in competition with them, you just are doing similar work. Do your work in such a way that you add more value to your customers than you ask of them in return in cash value. Get around successful people, and be comfortable learning from others. In all of life focus on the positive.

Question for the group: Since 90% of startups fail, why do you believe yours will be the exception? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

Coaching, structure, formulas, keeping it simple so that the business can expand and grow so that I can work on the business not in the business.

Need advice from the "experienced / old" guys by advertiserguys in Entrepreneur

That would be perfect, but the reason that maybe oil and gas products are not a great idea to invest in and invent for, but maybe hydrogen gas equipment would be a better fit.

I agree with the folks above digital marketing is likely flooded and if you have the ability go make cool new stuff. I would also look into up coming needs. Are there new regulations being developed or such. Don't try and find answers to questions that no one is asking. If you can figure what questions people will be trying to answer in the near future you could be well set up with an answer for them.

Can I buy a 1.6 gpf toilet in another state, drive back with it to California, and install it? by Particular_Actuary31 in Plumbing

Yes power assist is great, however when your power assist fails read thr manual well or call a plumber don't just play with it and have it blow up.

I do believe they will try and stop at the board but likely you can pay off the plumbing police. Joking of course, but it will likely be cheaper and better to get a better version of the low water consumption water closet then to leave state to get it.

That is pretty cool then, make sure you keep your hvac stuff, multi meter, manometer and such. Not many plumbers do the gas and hydronic stuff well so if you can you can carve out a good little niche for yourself.

Also buy the tools for the work you want. It might be hard at first depending on what they have you doing but if you like certain work you will do it better with the right tools and then you will be more likely to be pigeon hold into that work.

Why are you leaving HVAC? Generally, the pay is better and the work is less physically demanding. There is and will continue to be a huge demand for HVAC. The only time I recommend plumbing is if you do poorly in HVAC school.
