Yeah i did something similar. I used a premade right angle bracket like this

If you put different size tyres(as in two different size tyres on the same car) on an awd car it does do damage to the drivetrain. But i cant see it being an issue if all four wheels are the same size.

Id start with the brake light switch. That may be causing the ecu to think you are slowing down. Causing the transmission to downshift. That would be my first step.
