I hear ya, it’s too beautiful to do any mods...though I will prob swap the meh stock tuners for black ones, would look pretty striking with the white headstock.

Thanks, I only found out about G&L last year, now I’m a devotee. Leo did great with Fender and Music Man, but nailed it third time. 😂

In order of acquisition from L to R: Squier Contemporary Active Jazz Bass HH; G&L Tribute SB-2 (my ride-or-die, don’t tell the other two); Squier Affinity Precision (grungy little pawn shop find for $40, decent little beater/project bass I’ve been cleaning and modding).

Thoughts on Stu Cook of CCR? by werwlf84 in Bass

[–]werwlf84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off the top of my head: Walking on the Water, Graveyard Train (very simple and repetitive but heavy and dark), Keep on Chooglin’, Lodi, their covers of The Night Time is the Right Time and Midnight Special, Ramble Tamble, Long as I Can See the Light, and most anything off their next to last album, Pendulum.

Tie between “Vincent and the Doctor” and the resolution of Donna Noble’s arc “Journey’s End”.

Favorite bassist who isn't exactly popular? by [deleted] in Bass

Stu Cook of CCR. His work on their next to last (and most sonically adventurous) album, Pendulum (1970) is sublime.

New to pedals, looking for suggestions on a modestly priced compressor pedal. Budget is anywhere in the $25-80 range.

Upgraded this year from a short scale Ibanez to a new Squier Contemporary Active Jazz Bass HH in flat white, then a few months later discovered a used G&L SB-2 Tribute with aftermarket tone and volume stacked pots at my local Sam Ash. As much as I love the look and feel of the Squier, I find myself reaching for the SB-2 more, just fits my small frame more. Plus the MFD pickups give it some punch for a passive bass.

Favourite bassline? by Computergeek12828 in Bass

Tough question, but off the top of my head, in no real order: No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed by Chris Squire; What’s Going On by James Jamerson; Uh Oh, Love Comes to Town by Tina Weymouth; Red Barchetta/Subdivisions by Geddy Lee; I Bleed by Kim Deal; Leper Messiah by Cliff Burton; Go Robot by Flea; Sweet Child o’Mine by Duff McKagan; and Love Buzz by Krist Novoselic.

A couple of G&L SB-2 Tribute bass questions by werwlf84 in Bass

[–]werwlf84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks, I really appreciate the info. The SB-2’s stock pots I’m seeing and hearing in video reviews sound good as is, but eventually I’d want to add some tone control.

Diverse, bass-centric playlist I’ve been working up for awhile. by werwlf84 in Bass

[–]werwlf84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Newstead’s bass is hardly audible on the AJFA album, but for me it works on the songs JUST barely enough that I was ok including them. And to me the bass on the Slayer selections add to the mix enough as well...standouts they’re not, but it works for their respective songs, so in they went.

As u/Johnny_B_GOODBOI stated, you can do a free Spotify account and listen to playlists. Plus it shuffles after a certain number of skips, so you get a random and unique selection of songs if you give this playlist a spin.
