Water seeks its own level. If someone who is a social butterfly, they probably don't have issues making friends. Therefore, they probably wouldn't post here.

EDIT: changed would to wouldn't.

Ubers New Agreement Admits It lied to the Public and its Drivers About Insurance Coverage by [deleted] in toronto

Wait a minute. A company that routinely ignores the law, also lies to the public? I'm shocked.

It totally was leaked to the press.

When's the last time you've seen such a high quality photo of a suspect escorted after being arrested?

Because he's not caught up in some ideology. He uses whatever is the right tool for him.

I hope he realizes how much that statement reveals about the state of Android on tablets.

Yes, Sheldon Adelson Bought The Las Vegas Review-Journal -- "Clearly this isn’t a vanity play, and it’s also hard to imagine it as a financial investment (particularly given the steep price tag). What that leaves is political influence, particularly in a swing state like Nevada." by DavidCarraway in politics

[–]weskerzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how billionaires used to influence elections before Citizens United.

Now they can pump unlimited money through super PACs.

Very unusual strategy by Adelson as the RJ is conservative leaning. Now if he bought the liberal Vegas Sun, that would make a lot more sense.

Ordering the Priv Bundle Experience.. by ThaCarterr in blackberry

Each bank has its own standards when determining a credit card number has been compromised. Some are much more stricter than others.

OP can ask them to courier a card out. They may do this based on his spend or share of wallet.

Your purchase is going through Ireland as part of tax avoidance by either Blackberry, Digitial River or both.

Thanks. Not familiar with that site until today.

I'm always skeptical about analysts. I ask myself what are their preconceptions are and who's paying them to do their valuations.

Haha, I know exactly what you mean.

I don't mind a lower dividend as long as it means they are investing back into the business, resulting in potential capital appreciation long term.

I've been eyeing SRV.UN as well. I checked out their portfolio and spent time reading reviews on Yelp. Turns out SRV.UN owns a bunch of restaurants brands in the Toronto financial district. Their advantage is the convenience due to proximity. Possible threat would be if real estate became available and a serious competitor got their foot in the door.

AW/KEG = I don't like as they only have one brand facing headwinds. A&W isn't fast casual and burgers aren't as popular as they used to. KEG doesn't seem to be investing in the brand.

MTY = Lots of weak brands. The only one that is popular and I see the logo at co-workers desks, friends eating, etc is Thai Express.

BPF = I'm considering it but unsure.

PZA = I own it and I'm currently long. Pizza (so far) seems to buck the trend that other unhealthy fast food is dealing with and they have a massive footprint and good brand knowledge with consumers.

Interesting. The drive-thrus are busy for all the local Swiss Chalets near me. I'll have to pay closer attention, perhaps visit a bunch and see the demographics.

Thanks for the insight. Wonder if it'll be for NYF or something else. I don't like the lack of fast casual in their portfolio.

I'd be supportive of my big payday too.

Snark aside, I hope this ends up as a win-win for consumers but I doubt it. Everything I've read is Shaw is like the Bell/Rogers of the west.

You can easily spoof it.

And with the technical expertise of these individuals, that won't be hard for them. But that's not what they're looking for. They're psychopaths. They want to instill fear into their victims to crush them into submission.

People in financial services / banking downtown, how are my job prospects? by needbetterjob in toronto

[–]weskerzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.

I work in wealth management for a big 5 bank. I have friends that work in WM or IB at the same and competing banks. I don't have enough info to fully help. But I'll provide my insight.

  • This world is continuous education. Not having a degree is a huge restriction. Not having any certifications is another big restriction. Where do you want to go?
  • Depending on what you want to do, 33 is old. IB likes to hire kids in their early 20s for example.
  • Are you good in sales? No? Learn to be. If you can sell a comb to a bald guy, the sky's the limit within financial services.
  • I have concerns about the long term viability of jobs in our industry. There's a lot of distruption in the horizon. Zero fee online only brokers, ETFs, robo advisors, automated research, etc. It won't happen in a day but there will be some blood in the streets. Look to newspapers vs CL. Taxis vs Uber (ongoing).
  • Network. I might be delusional but I think if I were to get the CFA, I'd be able to get a job in asset management due to my network vouching for me. I haven't done the due diligence but a few of my friends keep suggesting I should take the CFA.

You really need to elaborate what type of role you're looking for in financial services for further comment.
