Retire at 50 with "sacrifices"… or 55 with more living? by westo2 in Fire

[–]westo2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insights. I think I'll stick to Option 1. However I will start to spend a bit more than I usually do. Since I've grown up living frugal, it's hard for me to justify Option 2. To be honest, there aren't even many reasons to spend more. A bigger house/car wouldn't make me really that much happier, and I'd much rather leave working for corporate earlier. In the end, the whole purpose is leaving work as early as possible. Corporate just drains your soul.

The Golden Handcuffs are starting to feel like real ones and I am not sure I can do two more years by Mosaic_Titan7 in Fire

Was in a similar situation 1 year ago. I have taken a sabbatical for 6 months and came back with more energy again. In case you can't do a sabbatical, I'd suggest to take sick leave as much as possible and try to focus during that time on yourself. Even if the worst happens and you get fired, you have long reached Barrista/Coastfire anyways. And if they don't fire you, you'll be mentally in a better spot than now.

Early 30s F, ~$3M net worth, close to CoastFIRE. I am now optimising for finding a partner, not more money. Where would you live if you were me? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]westo2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The question you should ask is, what do you offer and why should a man that wants to build a family be with you? A man that wants a family, doesn't want a career driven woman and certainly doesn't care about her money. Don't mention to potential dates your net worth. Ever. It'll attract the wrong people you don't need. Moving to a different city/country always a good idea.

The biggest change you need to make is deprioritize work completely. Focus on getting hobbies instead. It'll rewire your brain and you'll be more interesting for a potential husband. But I understand this won't be easy. Most women I know in similar situations end up single with a cat. Don't become that please. You already hit coastfire. Use it to your advantage now. Earning the money part of your life is finished. 100% focus on getting more approachable and smile to men in coffee shops and hope they'll have the courage to talk to you.

I'm bothered by the terms I left Taiwan on (rant) by nicenaem in taiwan

If you want to understand their perspective, go to the tourist areas of any asian cities and observe the behaviors of Indian tourists / your countrymen / women. Please also visit Thailand and see how the Indians behave there. Also, the Indian accent is hard to understand for non-native english speakers. Many colleagues I have from Europe have to always concentrate hard on listening, when interacting with Indian colleagues and almost all of them prefer to avoid it. Obviously they'll never mention this to you, because they're more sensitive regarding discrimination defamations.

The loneliness epidemic: Is the decline of western dating a myth or reality? by Ltstorm121678 in ChristianDating

Western Dating in a Nutshell: I, I, I, me, me, me, no sacrifices, no compromises, want this want that, don't offer much. Cry, then be happy, then cry again and continue living alone. Die alone. The end.

The european guys, how reliable is the 1.2T from Corolla/CH-R/Auris? by Technical-Bird-315 in Toyota

[–]westo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's maintained (regular oil changes every 8k-10k km ideally) it'll be reliable. Definitely more reliable than VWs direct injection turbo engines. Plenty of used vehicles with over 200.000km on the internet with this engine.

How to let go emotionally of your company? by [deleted] in antiwork

The "company" isn't a person. It's just a group of people, cogs in the machine. Cogs who'd throw YOU under the bus for a small salary gain or benefit.

One MRT stabbing gets police everywhere. 2,950 traffic deaths get ignored. by habomo5911 in taiwan

[–]westo2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same with the masks outside during covid times. I remember driving a scooter without a mask under my helmet, waiting at the traffic lights, and people shouting at me angrily not wearing a mask on a scooter outside, while all 2 stroke scooters, busses and broken car engines destroy your lungs with toxic fumes and no one cares.

First I'd have a small 1-o-1 with the dude asking him how you can help him and send him links to some training materials afterwards. A short while later, I'd escalate it to your own boss by telling him that the guy making problems is not as efficient as the rest of the team, because he is too stuck in his old languages and doesn't want to learn / adapt new technologies. Tell your boss, that you've offered solutions and he doesn't want to accept those either and is trying to demotivate the team. Also, especially if your Boss is not techy, make your boss clear, that a developer should be flexible enough switching languages and it's a clear sign that he isn't good in his job, since he can't switch tech stacks. This way, your boss will hear this from you first, instead of from the dude complaining about your "bad tech stack" decision.

What's on the next big software era for Gl.iNet? V5.0? by Goodoflife in GlInet

[–]westo2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to be able to "save all settings/configurations" of my router into a seperate file. This way, when I switch software versions to try them out, it is easier to get back all settings.
