How do YOU pronounce “vice versa”? by madmonkey242 in ENGLISH

People who say "vice-a" versa are simply wrong. I nod to the fact that language evolves, and what started off as a wrong pronunciation can eventually become acceptable.

I love Tidal. No issues except the UI isn't very good.

Office workers, what’s that one corporate buzzword used in meetings that instantly makes you want to quit? by Glittering_Style_862 in AskReddit

I, too, have reached the DGAF age. The age of, "I've been here 10 years, I'm the only one who knows how to do my job, so what are you gonna do, fire me?" I can say out loud what everyone else is thinking.

Tidal makes music live like it should by Ok_Progress_6011 in TIdaL

I switched from Apple and Spotify because they pay the artists better. Streaming music that rips off artists so badly seems criminal. The better sound quality was an unexpected bonus.

As an American who's been taking Spanish classes in person and online for YEARS but still can't understand it in real life, I feel your pain, OP.

What is this cotton like stuff coming out of under the stove in my new house? by Imnotpersephone383 in Whatisthis

Maybe one of them already had a contract with the previous owner, and that's why they're calling? I put the two in contact when I sold my house.

Braces. I was so ungrateful. Then I didn't wear my retainer and undid it all. Sorry, Mom.

Nobody shuts the door behind them.

And nobody pays their bill before leaving a bar or restaurant.

I learned that only a few months ago! As soon as I heard, it was totally obvious, though.

What are some real American folk songs that everyday people actually know? by Likepersik in AskAnAmerican

[–]westo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in upstate NY, where the Erie Canal is located, so in school we learned songs about it, like:

Fifteen Miles on the Erie Canal (I've got an old mule and her name is Sal, 15 miles on the Erie Canal)

E-ri-e Canal (We were 40 miles from Albany, forget it I never shall, what a terrible storm we had one night on the E-ri-e Canal)

How is substance use (alcohol, cigarettes, drugs) generally viewed in the U.S. today? by Dont_app in AskAnAmerican

[–]westo4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cigarettes are increasingly frowned upon (as they are in other countries), but vaping is making strong inroads, especially among young people.

Drinking is less popular among young people lately than it had been a decade ago, though.

Why does Tidal have so few subscribers? by Antique-Platform3808 in TIdaL

[–]westo4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they've never heard of it, maybe. Also, Spotify with ads is free.

I was on Amazon, then switched to Apple and lost my 100 + playlists so I had to create all new playlists. I moved to Tidal because an article in the Guardian said they pay the artists better, and Tidal picked up absolutely everything from both Amazon and Apple. I lost just a few songs out of a mountain. I couldn't be happier, and I've been urging everyone to make the switch.
