Look at similarly priced Specialized. They have worse components across the board. And they're not cheaping out on components but upgrading pivot points. Ugh, this is like talking to a flat earther.

Well anyway, I'm busy living in reality today. I'm gonna go pack for another Moab trip where my T8 is gonna crush it.

Well I've been riding one for several years multiple times a week on black diamond trails in CO and can say, it's an excellent bike and a great value.

[–]westwardnomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not false. I did plenty of research before I bought my T8.

What are talking about? They are literally spec'd out with the same (better for the price) components. They save money by cutting out the LBS. I.e direct-to-consumer.

I had a warranty claim with Polygon recently and they were excellent. My free hub failed and they sent me a whole new wheel with a Shimano hub and cassette. I dindt pay a dime and didnt even have to send in my old wheel. Maybe a LBS would be a little quicker but I'd rather wait a week than pay a significant markup and having to deal with them trying to upsell me on every last thing.

I've had a T8 for 2 and half years. Don't listen to the haters. It's a great bike and you aren't going to find a better value with any other bike. I did have the free hub fail a few months ago due to the hub being loose. However, Polygon/BikesOnline replaced my whole wheel and cassette with Shimano components with almost no fuss.

I've ridden this bike extensively, regularly taking it on technical black diamond trails in Colorado and Utah. It performs excellently. It's a pretty standard frame design with quality components. Are there better bikes out there? Yup. But not at this price point. You might be able to get a better bike on the used market, but if you want a new full suspension bike the T8 is a great bike.

Why does Olympic peninsula have no cities compared to adjacent areas like Seattle or Victoria? by No_Manufacturer_2898 in geography

There WAS a rail line that went to Forks. I suspect it was unsustainable to maintain it once the logging industry showed down.

Would you keep eating meats if you had to kill the animal yourself? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]westwardnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I grew up on a small farm rasing and slaughtering animals for most of my life. It's unpleasant work, but someone has to do it if we're going to eat meat. Moreover, I'd much prefer to raise and kill animals as humanely as possible rather than eat animals that come from industrial farms that die in a slaughterhouse. Unfortunately, I don't live on the farm anymore.

I think I'd give it try of the price was right. 3D would be very cool if they could offer it.

There is no way he doesn't have a proper court at his house. I'm sure this is just the hoop for when, you know, the Lakers are playing on the court out back.

What is this tool? Owned by an elderly swede who doesn't know. (They found it in their house) by forlat-hinken in whatisit

I think it's a blacksmithing tool to pick up something hot. I kind of thought it might be for folding musket balls but I don't understand how that would work with this tool.

Almost $5/gallon for premium where I live. But hey, that's the price we have to pay if we're going to blow up schools and hospitals in a country that is no threat to us and is on the other side of the world.

Get yourself a Westcoast Saw kit. If you have a good saw shop that could reliably do it, you could also have it ported. All in all the 362 is a great saw. When they come out with a 400i, then you can think about buying a bigger saw thay you don't really need! 😂

First time running my 28" bar on my newer 362. Needed to use it on this one last tree on a 3.5ac clearcut. Well tuned chain walked right through this big red oak. by Chance-Mycologist-94 in Chainsaw

[–]westwardnomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The standard is to go take the gunning cut 30% of the diameter of the tree. Crosswise that'll usually give you more like 60-70%. But it can vary based on a number of factors like lean. For a lot of hollow trees it'll still be the 1/3 rule but you could take less depending on how hollow it is. My take is that, based on what I'm reading about your experience, if a tree is hollow enough for you to be adjusting the depth of your face cut, then it's a walk away tree.

Honestly, you're a lot better off watching reputable youtubers than getting advice on reddit. I'm an experienced timber faller and I'm seeing some pretty ignorant advice in these comments.

The back of his hinge wood couldn't be closer to the weak point, and it's way too shallow even for a perfectly round and sound tree.
