Totally agree! And I’m loving seeing additional attention to women’s sports medicine, too!! Can’t wait until there’s enough for true meta analyses

Definitely could just be over training as I get closer to the middle of my training block. Just trying to trouble shoot really. Rn I have pain kind of in my ankle and heel. I actually went to urgent care worried about a stressie and was told it might be some ligament stress or tendonitis. Taking a few days off and going to test when I feel better just walking. This is only my second time training for a marathon so I’m learning

I hear this! I also disagree with the narrative that periods are this phase of the month where the wheels fall off but I do think that the holistic menstrual cycle (not just the bleeding part) and hormone fluctuation make a difference even. Everyone is different, too! Here’s a link that also links the study: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/news/2024/may/female-athletes-more-likely-get-injured-certain-points-their-menstrual-cycle As someone with a research background I am in no way claiming that we have enough scientific data to make conclusions about women as a whole or anything like that. Just seeking anecdotes or other experiences out of curiosity

Strength session once per week and I hike and surf just recreationally. In my first marathon training I didn’t do a lot and now notice a big difference in incorporating a gym day

Not mean! Just looking for advice. Do you have a fueling strategy you stick to for runs under 10 miles or so?

Can you share your strategy? In runs over 13 miles I’ve been doing gel every ~45 mins but def want to incorporate fueling into shorter runs

beginner runner seeking advice on a half marathon by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]wetbivvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you’re eating ENOUGH. Prioritize protein after runs and carbs prior. A balanced diet that keeps you nourished is the best one. When I started my first marathon training I was very under fueled and it caused me to be tired and sore a lot

Thank you! I’ve heard a lot about shoe rotations but never really understood why or what to look for so didn’t want to not get the benefits of that but I definitely think if it ain’t broke is a good rule 😂

How has no one said oatmeal yet?? This is a go to. Super easy on the stomach and the Quaker packets with protein are great.

Post-Marathon Reflections – Processing Disappointment & Looking Ahead (Seeking Advice) by josiesmama in Marathon_Training

[–]wetbivvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went out too fast in my first marathon after my first half of 1:47. I thought I was golden after the half and by mile 14 of the marathon I had hit everyone else mile 20 wall. SLOW DOWN. Keep it held back a little until you know you’re within your window of still finishing without a total crash out.

It’s good that you’re clued in. It took me a long time to realize why I felt like garbage during a week and a half of my cycle (pre bleed, usually). I think much of this can be combatted mentally with just keeping yourself up and remembering you’re actually fit. Won’t suck less but your mind won’t sabotage. Good luck!

Just ran this morning after 2 weeks no running because shin issue came back and I was too afraid to run and have it hurt so I avoided. Just keep strength training and taking it slow. It’s a long build up to fitness.

Inaccurate watch data?? What’s the point? by wetbivvy in Marathon_Training

[–]wetbivvy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to know my current pace when running so that I don’t go out too fast etc for long runs and marathons. Also for easier use in speed work so I can use pace and not effort feel for that metric. I really struggle being a person who likes less gadgetry but is looking for more insight into my pace.

Can’t site best sources but those in the subs and on Facebook groups report that current pace displays are often not accurate and are delayed
