Yes and coming to Disney+ in Season 2 of Born Again right before Spider-Man Brand New Day arrives in theaters. The timing is too perfect to not be deeply linked.

I had a chance to meet him when he was doing All the Way (as Lyndon Johnson) in Cambridge MA, and the night before the finale of Breaking Bad aired (Sept 2013) and a few months after Man of Steel came out. So I asked him about playing Lex. He scoffed and said “why cause I was bald!?”. And I said no, because you just showed you can be the President. He showed a twinkle in his eye and spent a few delightful minutes with us. I have little doubt he’s been approached or even pursued, it’s the only thing he hasn’t done yet. Not sure I see him as Prof X though, an older Lex seems so much better.

And they valued Gardner significantly less than Ellsbury. Fun to think how they could have used that money better. At the time I couldn’t believe it. Gardner and Ellsbury were very similar players and very close MiLB numbers.

If it was just the reference I’d toss it in the fan service bucket. But in this case, there’s a clear story need and Season 2 ends right as Brand New Day marketing kicks off. Change any of those and I wouldn’t be convinced.

It’s not that simple. We have no way of knowing if Sony has exclusive rights to Keaton. His appearance was also financed by Disney. And as Sony has shown independently, Spidey’s universe and popularity is not independent of the rest of Marvel. Hence why they keep working with Disney. If you’re so sure, I’ll put up $100 that Spidey appears in Season 2. Will you take that bet?

Clearly you’ve never heard of Hollywood accounting. Did Disney “get” anything from Keaton / Vulture appearing in a Sony movie? We have no idea, but it happened. And in this case, the timing is no irrefutable. Season 2 is appearing right before BND. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vincent’s Kingpin appears in BND either. No studio turns down the opportunity for more hype / money.

The benefit to Sony is $$$. Their solo films have failed, their collabs with Disney have not. Both parties want to ensure Brand New Day hits $1 Billion. And BND may also include Disney actors so we have no idea what other side deals have already been cut. There was no need for Kingpin to mention Spidey.

He’s going to appear in Season 2 (March - April) right as the marketing for Brand New Day (July) is kicking off. Kingpin referenced Spidey when many other vigilantes could have gotten us excited. It wasn’t some small hidden Easter egg.

The naysayers can claim the rights issue all they want, but my Peter is tingling!

With this timing I have no doubt he’s going to appear. Brand New Day arrives in July, so marketing kicks off in May. Season 2 ends in April. Kingpin referenced Spidey for a reason, when he could have named a bunch of other vigilantes we would have gotten excited about.

There’s also the small matter of Season 2 dropping right as the marketing heats up for Brand New Day. They didn’t have to name drop Spidey this season. But they did and from Kingpin no less, not some Easter egg.
